This is a movie about the perseverance it takes to really be a drunk. It isn't as easy as people think. To paraphrase a line in the movie, the Henry Chinaski character played by Mickey ROurke is asked why he doesn't give up being a drunk. A publisher tells him that anybody can be a drunk. He pauses and tells her no, anybody can be a not drunk, that it takes perseverance to be a drunk. He and Jane, the Faye Dunaway Character have their ups and downs, It is really a slice of whiskey sodden life in cheap flea bags and dive bars. It is very human, and it is probably my favorite film of all time. There really isn't anyway to put in a "spoiler" because it just rolls out how you would expect with some incredible language that you don't expect and a lot of heart and heartbreak. Great Film.
