I thought the acting was a bit amateurish. I am originally from Arlington, TX and the accent that Elisabeth Rohm CLAIMED to have had was way too over dramatic. You could tell that it was fake. There wasn't enough acting out of the little girl who played Amber to really comment. I thought the story told as much as it could. Especially if the killer still hasn't been found, there is only so much you can tell. I was actually wondering what else they were gonna put into this movie. I hadn't even heard about little Nichole until this movie and for her kidnapper to only get 5 years??? What kind of justice is that! He COULD have hurt her and wanted to, I for sure thought he was gonna rape her. But thanks to Amber, he didn't have time to do anything! I thought this was a very well told story of what really happened to Amber. I hope they find her killer.

I think Elizabeth Rohm is from Law & Order? I only watch Criminal Intent, so I'm not familiar with any of her other work. But her accent in the Amber movie made it clear that she's not a Southerner. Her accent was such a distraction that I could barely watch the first story.
The second part, with Nichole, was much more watchable. The abductor was perfectly cast (creepy like an obscene phone caller), and the other actresses gave taut performances. I will say, though, that if the real Glen looked anything like the actor version, Sharon should have seen warning signs way before she did. Creepy.

This was a decent enough movie with a couple well-known actors about the story behind the Amber Alert System. The lead actress, Elisabeth Röhm, is not as bad as some here will have you believe. As for the accent, it sounds a lot like her voice was dubbed over but I've heard Texan accents and accents from GA and AL too that sound just as awful so hey...
At any rate, this movie obviously didn't have an enormous budget so don't expect a Tinseltown-esque production but what's even more obvious is that Hollywood just doesn't quite care about the things the average Joe cares about, like the story behind the Amber Alert, Amber Hagerman's story. Good thing Lifetime did.

Honestly, very sad story. Very tragic outcome for this family, and it is still so heartbreaking many years later.
But, you'd think with how serious a crime and how devastating a loss this was for the family that they'd have done a better job with the script, and the cast, and the direction of the film.
Everyone knows the accents were bad. Particularly that of Ambers Mom. Atrocious. Maybe if the accents were better, it would've improved the film. Sad they didn't honor the story better.

Wow what a story and a even bigger wow for the way they ****** it up, moving from one year to the next then back then forward with no continuity what so ever, James Corden lookalike as a cooper.
The acting is woeful, bar the mum and two girls. Its cringe at its very worse.
But they had a ready made script to work with which makes it even more unforgiveable.
Disaster movie

For all of you who want to comment about the movie being poorly done because of accents and stuff like that can go to hell I went to school with amber I knew her family I helped put out flyer's and hang pink ribbons around Arlington when she went missing don't focus on the acting or accents focus on the message behind the story!!! U heartless s.o.b.'s!!!!!!!! Her mother pushed past the pain and agony of losing a child so young to make the amber alert system to help. So that other parents do not have to suffer the agony that she went through. And for those of you who say that the police should have had her mom as a suspect make me so damn sick to my stomach u heartless bastards! Part of her died the day she found out her baby girl had been ripped from her life by a monster that to this day after 20yrs has not been brought to justice!!!!

silvergoddess, I have never laughed so hard reading a review as I laughed at yours. "U heartless bastards!" "Heartless s.o.b.s!" "You can all go to hell!" LOL, sweetie, these reviews are for the MOVIE, not for what happened to Amber. It's a bad movie with bad acting. Reviews of movies don't reflect the real-life events behind them, they just reflect whether or not the movie is good. It isn't, and it doesn't make anyone a "heartless bastard" to say so. Get a grip.
I reiterate my original review from 2009 (oh, and to the twit 'myspecialparadise' who thinks that I must be offended by Elizabeth Rohm's character in L&O being a lesbian, NOPE- I'm just offended by her lousy acting. I couldn't care less if anyone is gay or plays a gay character, LOL):
Elizabeth Rohm was the weakest actress of all the Law and Order ADA's and her acting is even worse here. Her attempts at a Texas accent are amateurish and unrealistic. Nor can she adequately summon the intense emotions needed to play the mother of a kidnapped child; at times while her daughter is missing she manages to sound only vaguely annoyed, as if she can't remember where she left her keys.
This is an important true story, so it's too bad that the awful acting of the lead actress distracts so much from the message. The rest of the cast is talented enough, but they just can't overcome Rohm's tendency to simply lay on a particularly thick imitation of a Southern drawl whenever actual acting is required.

Amber's Mom: the worst acting I've ever seen. and I patronize community theater. I've lived all over the south including Texas. Unbelievable performance and less believable accents. Creepy Abductor was the best actor and I'm surprised he agreed to be in this thing. Too bad because the story deserved to be told well. Instead, it was a joke. Is this the norm for lifetime movies? I didn't think so, but it's been a long time since I watched such cheesy television. I only watched it because of the connection to real life legislation. And, I'm sure if there was such blatant disregard for the geography (Canada=Texas for gosh sakes?) there was probably such license taken with other historicity. The only thing I came away believing is that there is actually a real Amber Alert--but not because of the movie. Could that woman have actually been so stupid as to allow that guy to babysit that child? There's way more to THAT story.

If there was a ZERO rating, I would give it to this movie. Today was the second time I tried to watch it and I still couldn't make it through from beginning to end. I can't believe the multiple stars given by others & can only assume they either know the actors or are a publicist in disguise! The acting is atrocious all around, the script is blah, the kid playing Nichole shows zero emotion even when she's being threatened. The "southern" accent from the actress playing Amber's mom is laughable - I'm from Georgia and have friends from Texas - believe me NOBODY talks like that! None of her emotions seemed real in any scene. The subject matter is very serious and deserves much better treatment.

This movie aired today again, I never miss it. This is the first time I have written a comment online. But I just had to say we need more movies like this make parents aware of the dangers to our children. I cry every time I watch what this mother went through, but made her daughters memory stay alive and fight for other children. I read the comments from Mr. Parks son, it makes no difference what medical problems he had. he did a very scary thing to this little girl. Again her life might have been saved all due to Donna and what she had to lose to make the Amber Alert possible. Donna you are a wonderful person and so strong. keep up your good work. A loving Mother of 4.

I think that Elisabeth Rohm, though she may try hard, is not very good at all. I guess it was because of budget that she may have been the only one they could get for that price. I mainly watched it for the performance of Myron Natwick, whose work I know very well.
He was the most believable and without doubt the most compelling to watch. When he wasn't on the screen, the thing went dead. This was filmed in Vancouver. He gave me the creeps, but be assured that in real life he is a kind, funny compassionate man. He even said playing that role gave him the creeps.
I'll watch anything with him in it, but Elisabeth Rohm - never again. She was as exciting as lint on Law and Order. Maybe a very nice person, but no actress.

She did a great job in her second Lifetime movie. Can't wait to see what's next for her. To the person who wrote the first comment, she has blue eyes, big L and O fan:~)I watch Law and Order just about every night b/c it's such an awesome show, I can't wait for the new episodes. It's a shame she's not on the show anymore b/c she was really good,I'd go onto bigger and better things too though. Lifetime is a good step they make really good movies that reach everyone on many levels. They definitely did it with this movie, the Abmber Alert is a huge part of history now so I'm glad they told this little girls story! The determination of her mother was amazing and parents should take that with them.

I kind of agree with the last post. The acting on this movie was kinda of bad.I think that the producer was just in a rush to find the stars and get the movie done.Although I think the little girl that played little Nichole did a really good acting for her age but the rest of the cast.....I did like the movie however cause I really wanted to see how the amber alert came to be but they did need better acting in this film.Good acting Jodelle Ferland though. At least that is my opinion.I'll tell the producer and everyone who worked on this film to next time.Take your time when picking the cast.I am not downing any of the cast members I honestly think it was just too rushed.
I give it 2 for at least attempting to tell an important story and raise awareness, but if it wasn't dealing with such a serious issue and I was rating it as a movie alone, it would have to be 0/10.
Much has been written here about Rohm's accent, and as a film fan and someone who dated a Texan, I have to say I was quite shocked. In fact, I am quite convinced many of the words coming out of her mouth were spoken by someone else, or dubbed afterwards. Either way, it was unconvincing to put it mildly.
As a fan of Angel and having watched every episode at least 3 times, I am very familiar with Rohm. I happen to think her performance as Kate Lockley was excellent, so I disagree with the "she can't act" opinions. However she certainly didn't act here, and nor was she alone in that.
The only performance in this movie worth mentioning was that of Jodelle Ferland, who is one of the best child actors around. If she gets the right parts, she will be an Academy award winner, or I'll eat my hat.
Watch it if you want to learn about Amber's story, but don't watch it for entertainment value.

That accent Rohm used was not even close to a Texas accent. I couldn't stand the parts where she had lines. That kind of ruined the movie for me. It could have been so much better with a different actress choice.
This movie had a very important re-telling that seemed to be lost with the subpar acting. Hopefully, as this mystery has never been solved, there will be another movie come out where better actors are chosen for the roles. The only talent in this movie was the actor who played that creepy character named Glenn, and the female actress who portrayed Sharon, the mother of Nichole. That was the most interesting part of the movie.

I'd given this movie zero stars if possible, I couldn't even get 10 minutes into it. The acting was unbearable and the "southern" accents were totally exaggerated, like nails on a chalkboard. I was born and raised in Texas, and NOBODY sounds like that. This story was and still is so big and devastating it definitely deserved better directing and casting. To those whining about these reviews being inconsiderate, we're only criticizing the making of this made for tv movie cause whoever made this obviously isn't from anywhere near South and more than likely got details all over the news for context.

I have no idea what the other reviewer has against Elizabeth Rohm, obviously a personal problem ... because I enjoyed Elizabeth Rohm in Law & Order ... and I also found her portrayal of Amber's mother to be top rate, accent and all. Each person reacts differently within a devastation, and accents depend on living one's life around, and amongst, others that speak with the same accent. Some people have strong accents, others have weak accents. Perhaps the other reviewer has been swayed by the last episode of Law & Order that Elizabeth Rohm was in, where we discover that her character is a lesbian? Whatever ... this is a movie worth watching ... and the acting is spot on ... all around. Elizabeth Rohm shows us that she is a much better actor than given credit for ... the way she shows the character's strength of control as she forges forward to demand that authorities take the "Amber Alert" idea seriously ... is truly remarkable. Could it have been a better movie? Maybe, because much of a movie depends on the Director, as well as how those being portrayed actually acted through their personal devastation. But the message is exceptionally clear ... PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY ... or lose them!

I highly doubt you are who you say you are, but for argument sake if you are...I'm here to tell you that this movie wasn't meant to portray your father in a light you see fit. This movie was a dedication to Amber and her story and how her tragic death gave many children a chance to live due to the amber alert being used across the country. Its a movie of course its dramatized that's why it says BASED on a true story. Get over yourself! This movie was excellent, the acting was excellent, and the story was tragic and should have never of happened. My heart goes out to Amber and her family....This movie should run more often it will be airing on lifetime July 11

Wow,I cannot believe how badly this movie was done. The main actress was horrible, her accent was way over the top(I'm from the South,so I know what I'm talking about)and her acting in general was very bad.As a matter of fact, the acting by the whole cast was bad.It wasn't informative at all,I thought it would be interesting to see how the Amber Alert came into existence, but this movie was a poor vehicle for that. This movie lacked a lot of things. It lacked anyone with great acting ability, where did they get those kids from????? It lacked feeling, empathy and substance.I just didn't enjoy this movie at all.I loved the movie Adam, even though it is painfully tragic,it portrayed realistic grieving parents and showed their strong desire to help others in their situation. This movie failed on all accounts.I give this a 1 out of 5.Dont waste your time on this.
