This is a splendid, if somewhat brief, documentary of a fine actor and (by all accounts) a fine man. I was saddened to see the very low ratings, but note these were typically followed by no review. It is a shame to see political bias taint cinematic review. His politics were not for everyone, but the praise of noted liberals like Peck should make everyone realize that he was a man of integrity. A man for all seasons who is sorely missed.
It is a sketch, a hommage, nice support for remind great roles and the actor giving fair and precise portrait of the hero and becoming be perceived as one. A honest work, familiar if you know the serie. A come back to the legeds of 20 centryAmerican cinema, touching, correct, having the fans and admirers of the actors as basic target. Sure, Charlton Heston deserves a better portrait but the episode can be defined as decent start.
Charlton Heston: For All Seasons (1995)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Carroll Baker, Walter Seltzer, Gregory Peck and others are on hand to discuss Charlton Heston, both the man and the actor. Not only do we have those people commenting but Heston himself is interviewed as we go through his early life, what got him into acting and the various roles that he played throughout his career.
Obviously if you're a fan of Heston then you should enjoy this documentary since you get to hear from the man himself as he talks about Gregory Peck, Cecil B. DeMille and various other people as well as films like PLANT OF THE APES, SOYLENT GREEN and others. The majority of his 70s and 80s work is overlooked as is often the case so you can't call this a definitive documentary but the interviews make it worth watching.
