Something Blue

DI Maggie Forbes returns for a second series of The Gentle Touch.

She is concerned that her teenage son has been looking at pornographic magazines and is upset.

In fact she launches a one woman crusade against porn. Mrs Mary Whitehouse would be proud of that attitude.

She barges into a private residence of one her son's school friends and confiscates a porn video.

The liberal minded mother is not happy with this course of action.

Meanwhile the police are also after some real criminals. A gang of shoplifters using more innovative methods to steal.

It was laughable that Forbes seem have risen to a rank of Detective Inspector and seems to be a novice when it comes to pornography.

In the early 1980s, the Soho part of London was rather seedy.

Even the debate about porn was very simplistic. No acknowledgement that Forbes son might have raging hormones and just be curious about women.

I wonder if there was a reason for such a simplistic puriticanal episode. Maybe LWT executives were in the early stages of planning the risque variety show OTT.
