Sloan died Wednesday, Aug. 13, his family announced. While his cause of death isn’t revealed, according to his family, Sloan “passed away peacefully.”

He was known for The Equalizer, where he co-created the action-crime series alongside Richard Lindheim. The show ran on CBS from 1985 to 1989 and starred Edward Woodward. The series inspired the 2014 Denzel Washington-led film of the same name and its 2018 and 2023 sequels. Sloan served as a producer on the movies. Most recently, in 2012, The Equalizer was adapted again into a show starring Queen Latifah, which ran for five seasons but was canceled in May.

Per Deadline, the news that Ziskie passed away on July 21 of arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease was confirmed by the late actor's family. In a statement, Ziskie's family wrote, "Dan was a man of remarkable talent and a keen observer of life. He was as vibrant and multifaceted as the characters he portrayed on stage and screen."

A Detroit native, Ziskie attended the University of Michigan with a focus on athletics and the arts, and quickly found a place for himself within the walls of the Second City comedy club in Chicago shortly after graduating. In 1980, Ziskie made his Broadway debut in Morning's at Seven, starring Nancy Marchand, Elizabeth Wilson, and Maureen O'Sullivan, which jump-started a stage career that included credits in 1985's I'm Not Rappaport all the way up to 2004's After the Fall.

Hill’s 2009 short story flips the script on the iconic character, asking what kind of man spends his nights desecrating coffins and driving stakes into the undead. “We know that Van Helsing is a good guy because we’ve been taught that vampires are evil,” Hill explained in a recent interview with Collider.

Derrick Kardos, a graphic designer on films including Jonathan Demme’s The Manchurian Candidate, Martin Scorsese’s The Departed, Ridley Scott’s American Gangster and Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, has died. He was 53.

Kardos died July 18 in Carteret, New Jersey, of complications from Long Covid, his family announced.

Kardos got his start in show business as an assistant for Christine Vachon, and the producer and founder of Killer Films wrote on Facebook that he “was a giant part of Killer’s roots and a wholly unique human being.”

He also was mentored by production designer Thérèse de Prez, with whom he collaborated on many movies, from Stonewall (1995), Arlington Road (1999), Summer of Sam (1999) and High Fidelity (2000) to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), American Splendor (2003), Black Swan (2010) and Premium Rush (2012).
