Several (more than the 3 in the IMDB description) various unconnected stories from Japan's history. Often very brief but just enough to establish why there is sex or violence in the scenes. They may include: Killings, torture, whippings, beatings, rape, blood, bondage, suspension, Kinbaku, lesbianism, ninjas and significantly worse but I won't spoil the surprise. A lot of the violence is off-screen.
You don't really get to know enough to care about the characters. The sex scenes I didn't find erotic. The violence was often very tame so did not seem as outrageous as it should have.
The acting was very hot or miss. Some were very good. Some were absolutely terrible but could blame the director as much as the actors. A few actors barely reacted during scenes of torture.
The title of my copy of this film is "The Cruel History of Prisoners" and given the title and content it really seemed very tame. It was interesting but not exciting at all. Can't really recommend this movie. Sorry.
