Paul Simon follows his muse wherever it leads him, whether that meant leaving Simon & Garfunkel at their commercial peak, or opening his debut solo album with “Mother and Child Reunion,” a reggae track recorded in Kingston a full year before the Wailers released Catch a Fire, or helping South African township jive go international with Graceland. Nobody expected him to do those things, and similarly, no one was expecting the 81 year-old singer-songwriter’s newest release—Seven Psalms, a 33-minute suite whose title and concept literally came to him in a dream.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.”)
Following last week’s supersize “Masked Singer” special — which brought together Season 3’s nine remaining contestants from Groups A, B and C for the first time, with one being eliminated/unmasked by the end — tonight’s episode switched things up a bit by featuring only four of the eight competitors still standing. And once they were done battling it out, we lost yet another masked singer.
During the hour, Kangaroo faced off against Night Angel, and Turtle took on Astronaut. Kangaroo and Astronaut were deemed the weaker performers in those pairings, and so they had to face off in one of the show’s fan-favorite “smackdown” rounds.

The schtick o’ the week in Wednesday’s Masked Singer was security — as in, going through metal detectors when getting on planes, having your purse rifled through before entering buildings, etc. The idea was introduced during a cold open that saw the judges getting their bags searched before entering the studio. Black Panther star Letitia Wright and Star Wars‘ John Boyega will lead cast in Steve McQueen’s upcoming BBC TV drama Small Axe, about London’s West Indian community between the 1960s-80s. As we reported yesterday, Amazon has picked up U.S. rights.
Production is now underway on location in London. Also starring are Malachi Kirby (Roots), Shaun Parkes (Lost In Space), Rochenda Sandall (Line Of Duty), Alex Jennings (Victoria) and Jack Lowden (Mary Queen Of Scots).
The long-gestating series will comprise six parts and tell five different stories. Its title is derived from a Jamaican proverb: “If you are the big tree, we are the small axe,” meaning that relatively marginal or small voices of dissent can successfully challenge more powerful ones. It is also the title of a Bob Marley song from his 1973 album Catch a Fire.
McQueen created the series’ stories with Alastair Siddons and Courttia Newland.

Paramount Pictures is teaming up with celebrated musician Ziggy Marley to develop a biopic about his father, reggae music legend Bob Marley. No writer or director is in place at this time, and it remains to be seen what other producers Ziggy Marley will bring on board to this project. It's most definitely still in the earliest stages of development and there is no word yet on whether Paramount has planned a production schedule or possible release date quite yet, but it seems the project is in fact moving forward.
Bob Marley was born February 6, 1945 in Jamaica, to Norvall Marley, a white Jamaican who originally hailed from Sussex, England and oversaw a plantation, and Cordelia Booker, who he married at the age of 18. Marley's father being white lead to him being discriminated against in his own country, but his father passed away when he was just 10 years old after suffering a heart attack.

Starring Aboriginal activist Gary Foley opposite Bill Hunter, director Phillip Noyce’s exploration into race relations is one ending short of being a classic
Of the many influential film-makers to have emerged from Australia in the 1970s, Phillip Noyce is one of the most political. Most of Noyce’s body of work consists of political dramas and thrillers, often with a side of geopolitical intrigue – titles such as Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Saint, Catch a Fire, Salt and The Quiet American.
In the early 2000s the director made a rare voyage back to Australian shores for the hard-hitting stolen generations drama Rabbit-Proof Fence, a personal but polemical film advertised in America with an incendiary poster tagline: “What if the government kidnapped your daughter?”

Like cheese on toast, Mel B and TV talent competitions seem destined to belong together.
Not content with currently being a judge on America's Got Talent or coaching on The Voice Kids Australia, the multi-talented popstar's globetrotting ends back in the UK after being confirmed as the fourth judge on this year's X Factor, joining Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell.
To celebrate, Digital Spy has decided to spice up your life by digging out ten facts about Scary Spice.
1. Melanie Janine Brown was born in Harehills, Leeds on May 29, 1975. Melanie was raised on a council estate by her English mother Andrea, and her Nevisian father Martin, who both encouraged the budding singer to follow her dreams.
Those dreams, however, didn't involve school, as Melanie explained: "I didn't do that well in school, let's put it that way. I was more focused on singing or wanting to go out...

"When the elders need guidance, I provide wisdom, using memories of the past." Following the batch of character posters that featured just a stripe of color running through the black and white images of various characters from The Giver, the sci-fi adaptation gets shown off even more in the full theatrical trailer. The film seems to unfold as a science fiction sort of Pleasantville as the black and white world of Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) is invaded by color, as he learns more about the all too ideal community in which he lives, thanks to the wisdom of Jeff Bridges, the titular guide and keeper of wisdom from the past. Watch! Here's the full trailer for Phillip Noyce's The Giver, originally from Yahoo: The Giver is directed by Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Saint, Catch a Fire, Salt) and adapted by newcomer Michael Mitnick. Even when there's plenty of characters that fans will know in films like X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Hobbit, The Avengers or other blockbuster films with ensemble casts, the idea of character posters is just wasteful and pointless. But here we are with some character posters for the adaptation of the revered sci-fi young adult novel The Giver. This has an impressive cast, but not necessarily worthy of character posters, especially when most general audiences don't know these characters. Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites & Taylor Swift looking like her evil twin from another dimension are here and more. Here's the character posters for Phillip Noyce's The Giver from Imp Awards: The Giver is directed by Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Saint, Catch a Fire, Salt) and adapted by newcomer Michael Mitnick. The haunting story, adapted from Lois Lowry's young adult book of the same name,...

Following the recent original horror flick Oculus, we're still due for quite the dose of newcomer Brenton Thwaites this year. The young actor leads the sci-fi indie The Signal, has a supporting role as Prince Phillip in Maleficent and stars alongside Jeff Bridges in the adaptation of the revered sci-fi novel The Giver. Now a new trailer has arrived for the film that also features Meryl Streep and Katie Holmes, combining some footage from the original teaser with some of the new bits that popped up in the recent featurette. While the book is held in high esteem, we're not sure if the film can offer anything fresh in the Ya market. Here's the new trailer for Phillip Noyce's The Giver straight from The Weinstein Company: The Giver is directed by Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Saint, Catch a Fire, Salt) and adapted by newcomer Michael Mitnick.

"There's something missing from our lives, something that has been stolen." With Divergent poised to hit theaters this weekend, a more iconic young adult sci-fi book is coming to theaters later this year with The Giver. Based on Lois Lowry's Newbury Medal winning book of the same name, the film follows Jonas (Brandon Thwaites), who lives in a content, future dystopian society that feels a little too familiar to the rest of the young adult adaptations we've been seeing. But after being given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory, he begins to unravel the secrets behind his community, and they might be rather disturbing. Maybe Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep will give this iconic tale the weight it needs. Watch! Here's the first trailer for Phillip Noyce's adaptation of The Giver from The Weinstein Company: The Giver is directed by Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger,...

For Cedella Marley, keeping her father's legacy alive is a full-time job.
The daughter of music legend Bob Marley is the author of multiple children's books inspired by her dad, the designer of a fashion brand named for the Wailers album "Catch a Fire," and CEO of Tuff Gong International, an organization he founded to support creativity. She's also worked with her brothers to launch Marley's Beverage Company, featuring a new line of relaxation beverages. The aptly named Marley's Mellow Mood recently kicked off Marley's Music Uprising, a competition that will offer the winning band (La's PapaFish) a recording session with Stephen Marley at Tuff Gong Studio in Kingston, Jamaica.
We caught up with the entrepreneur and mom of three to chat about her recent projects and famous family.
Why did you want to start Marley's Mellow Mood?
Our father was an entrepreneur. And he was also a farmer.

The immensely talented Meryl Streep continues her illustrious career with two more adaptations. Streep has been officially cast in The Giver, an adaptation of the beloved Newbery Medal book, being directed by Philip Noyce (Catch a Fire, Salt). In addition, The Giver also gains actors Alexander Skarsgard (seen in Melancholia, Battleship, The East) and Cameron Monaghan (seen on "Shameless"). Jeff Bridges stars in the film, which starts shooting this fall in South Africa. Streep is also confirmed for Michael Cunningham's The Good House adaptation with Robert De Niro (the fourth film these two will be in together) as we reported. As for The Giver, The Weinstein Company and Walden Media are producing the adaptation of Lois Lowry's bestselling novel. This has been one of Jeff Bridges passion projects for a while, and it sounds like it's finally coming together and shooting this year with Philip Noyce at the helm.

Wait, there's a film adaptation of Lois Lowry's The Giver in the works? And Jeff Bridges is in it? I'm ashamed that I didn't know about this until now. If further evidence were needed that the lines between TV and film are becoming less and less visible, Cannes has provided a decent opportunity. Last year saw "Hemingway & Gellhorn" get an out-of-competition screening, whereas this year went one better, and has seen Steven Soderbergh's "Behind The Candelabra" pick up some of the best reviews of the festival. But the trouble with the Liberace biopic getting so much attention is that it's overshadowed the other HBO movie, "Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight," which screened this morning to virtually no buzz, and which has just debuted its first three pieces of footage. Written by Shawn Slovo ("Catch A Fire"), and directed by Stephen Frears, it tells the story of the Supreme Court debate over the great boxer's conscientious objection to fighting in Vietnam, focusing in particular on the relationship between the torn Justice Harlan (Christopher Plummer) and his clerk (Benjamin Walker: Vampire Hunter). Frank Langella,...

The Giver starring Jeff Bridges may land Salt helmer Phillip Noyce Lois Lowry's 1993 "The Giver" children's book may have found its director in Catch a Fire's Phillip Noyce, who's currently in early talks to helm the bigscreen adaptation for Weinstein Co and Walden Media. Jeff Bridges will star and also produces alongside Nikki Silver. Weinstein Co had no official comment on Noyce's involvement, reports Variety. The Giver is set in a society which is at first shown as a utopian society, then gradually becomes dystopian. By converting to "Sameness," the society has eliminated pain and strife, which has also eradicated emotional depth. The story follows Jonas, a twelve-year-old selected to be the "Receiver of Memory" who discovers the power of knowledge. People living in the community are content because they don't know they're capable of a better life, but the knowledge of what they are missing, could create chaos.

If there is one thing about Stephen Frears, he doesn't usually let too much time pass before he's on to the next project. And barely a week after his latest film "Lay The Favorite" premiered at Sundance, it looks like he may be on to something new. And now, it's not the developing remake of "The Hit" or "The Bengali Detective." Instead, it's "Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight" and it's gearing up at HBO. The folks over at Shadow & Act first got wind of the project, and have learned that casting is underway. Lover's rock influenced the Police and Sade, and gave women a voice in reggae – so why was it sidelined in its native Britain?
In 1979, Janet Kay's piercing falsetto was one of the defining sounds of the summer. Silly Games, her bittersweet ode to a faltering relationship, enjoyed heavy radio play, thanks in part to a subtle arrangement by songwriter/producer Dennis Bovell, a distinctive drum pattern from Aswad's Angus Gaye and distribution on a Warners subsidiary. The song reached No 2, the highest chart placing for a black, British woman at that point. It also signalled a coming of age for lover's rock, the softened, British reggae sub-genre that focused on romance, but, as noted in Menelik Shabazz's documentary The Story of Lover's Rock, involved so much more than setting teenaged heartbreak to a reggae beat.
