Flowers Delivers the Goods

As an avid movie fan I have found that I have recently developed the habit of shying away from films produced by the 'major' companies as they habitually regurgitate the same 'pat formula' for making money. Films I have seen in college courses and at small "coffehouse theaters" (and which went under-appreciated by me, then) now are of more to my taste. What is refreshing about FLOWERS is the sense of film-making passion that infuses this work and which is so absent in these days of 'blockbusters' releases. Here you have a hungry director / screenwriter, a cast of outstanding character actors, and a quiet rebellion against expectancy. Do yourself a favor: Skip your local theater and get a copy of this work; you'll be witnessing the birth of another great future in the film-making industry. (I gave it a "9" only because I enjoyed it so much that I wished it had been longer than 72 minutes - que serai! serai!)

A great indie film!

Got a copy of this film not long ago. It was a copy of a copy so the quality was not great, but this is a great indie film, very good. Great direction, great performances a solid effort. I am wondering why this is not out there on shelves. I would ask the producers to keep pushing this small gem, it needs to reach a larger audience. I have seen enough small Indies with the usual problems, bad lighting, bad acting, poor planning, etc. But this one was a total surprise too ( I have been watching various small Indies and this one was the best) Good job, keep at it, I hope this gets a national release. Also the cast needs a special mention, casting is everything and this cast is simply amazing.

Great potential but.........

Hello there, I went to a film screening of this project and even though I had a great time....Flowers just did not deliver.

When it comes to a dialogue driven piece, the director faces a bigger challenge than with any other film genre. The pacing, cinematography, blocking and overall exploration of the scenes have to be interesting or at least follow a particular style. None of these elements were apparent in this project, and all of this had nothing to do with low budget issues, usually what the filmmakers point to at first.

Flowers is a film with a lot of potential, lots of it, for starters it has some precious small moments of great dialogue, but unfortunately it is watered down by clumsy, flat directing (pacing goes from slow to slower), ultra flat and uneven cinematography (I've seen 24p video projects look beter than this), slow scenes cut to more slow scenes, and so on, and so on.

Good writing alone is always great, but a defined directing style, good pacing and good cinematography will make it better.

At 70 minutes plus, it felt like 2 hours.

Again, lots of potential, but next time the writer should just write, let a more experienced or at least "visual" director take over, and hire a DP that knows how to make 16mm look great.

Still, OK film but it could have been so much more.

Great movie with a honest look at life decisions

Jeremy Miles must make decisions regarding his future. Jeremy wants to become a lawyer, has passed the bar and just wants someone to take a chance on him. The whole time he is dealing with the strange people that surround him. For money, he works at a flower shop, having to deliver flowers to crazy customers, some of which are that happy about getting flowers. Jeremy must deal with his sobriety, his girlfriend who wants Jeremy to succeed, and his position in life.

A very honest look at becoming what you think need to be versus what you want to be.

Jeff Woods does a fantastic job as director/writer, with a subtle hand for comedic timing and writing. Jeff Sproul as Jeremy, convinces the audience with his stunning performance and deep inner conflict.

A must see!
