There are some things I will give this show props for.
Getting kids to be active and eat well, which is the reason this series exists.
Robbie Rotten, the bad guy of this series, almost never fails to make me laugh, mainly because of his actions and the way he prepares his schemes. (Rest in peace, Stefan Karl Stefansson)
However, there are a couple of problems I have with some of the health messages this show gives.
The lesson about oral hygiene. I get they're telling kids how many times to brush to each side in order to clean their teeth, but haven't they heard of something called toothpaste? And also, Sportacus brushes his teeth much too fast every time.
The lesson about eating well. I get that they're saying "Candy is a sometime food" and "Fruits and vegetables will boost your health", but it seems as though they're only eating fruits and vegetables as if they're rabbits. How about telling children to eat stuff like meat, grains, fish, noodles, cereal, milk, cheese, bread, and other foods apart from fruit and vegetables.
Like I said, it's not a bad kids show, but the oral and nutrition messages leave a lot to be desired.

It's nice to see that there are still shows out there which focus on the child's well-being and not on their wallets. Julianna Rose Mauriello is an decent actress, no Jodie Foster or something, but she get's the job done. She's THE typical American dance-sing-act product. I DO wonder if she's really 15, instead of an 21 year old just looking young, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt.
Also, I have to ask those posters who question the morals of this show because her character goes "CAMPING WITH A GROWN MAN WHO IS NO RELATION TO HER", are you INSANE?? I mean, OH MY GOD!!!! How can any parent in their right mind censor their kids from this episode? I mean, are your parenting skills so weak and feeble that you think that: (a) your 8 year old daughter immediately will make plans to go camping with strange men? (b) that your convincing skills are so lousy that you cannot prevent such a thing?
Yeah right ....
And about the photo-shopped pics of Julianna, our thoughts should be more with the little girls who inadvertently have loaned their bodies to this, than to Julianna/Stephanie herself.

The Sportacus guy is MAGNanimoUS (a new word in my vocabulary, thanks to this TV program and the actor, since his name is "Magnus"), who never uses violence, though he could have kicked Rotten's backside up to the Moon a thousand times, you bet. How many superheroes are there who are like this? Cannot name any other yet.
His sidekickess with an acid hairstyle is the embodiment of joy and happiness that only kids can show off. Witnessing her face expressions makes me happy too. At least to some minor extent.
The villain Rotten is simply outstanding. His melodramatic actions are very cute and not rotten at all. My sick modernized and urbanized mind would think of real nasty things to trigger against the goofy Lazy Town residents and this so-called villain goes as far as some simply outrageous kidstuff that makes him himself look like a complete idiot.
If somebody tries to dig up sexual innuendoes here, then this somebody is spoilt and mutilated by today's sex-pop Madonna/Britney/Gaga (un)culture, being unable to accept that a much better world still exists. Don't think that it's not my problem as well. My taste is also damaged deeply by today's foul pop standards. And the real value of Lazy Town was not clear to me at first sight. But then it struck me like a fission bomb.
Finally, you can feel it in the air that the actors are loving the process of shooting the whole thing. The way they dance, sing, make faces, jump, rock and roll is something so pleasant to the eye. They make it easy and catchy.
For me personally, it would be a pleasure to shake hands with the actors of this good old show. They have managed to create something pleasant to the eye and ear and so, pardon me, innocent. Something that you can watch with the whole family and get only positive impressions. Good work. Cannot dance together with the show staff while watching (or my whole little room will fall apart), therefore prefer to enjoy this extravaganza lying on the sofa like a lazy resident of Lazy Town. Some episodes are not very entertaining though. Therefore...
A very good mark for this one, 7 out of 10. Thanks for attention.

I was first a little skeptical, but after watching my daughter get up and dance and jump around the whole show I changed my mind. I like that it chooses different things to teach. I mean lets face it, we see a million kid shows try to tackle sharing, and manners, but one that talks about getting to bed early to have more energy and that candy only give you energy for a little while, and they teach this in a fun way. When my husband asked our daughter a few days after first watching this, if she wanted a candy bar at the grocery store, she said no she wanted an apple to have energy. She can watch this show as much as she wants. I think it is a great show!!!!!!!

I never cared for this show. Even at 12 I was still watching many children shows that were better than LazyTown.
LazyTown is a live action comedic, musical, learning show for children. I'm not sure why any child would find them funny or sing along to their boring songs. (If you want songs, watch the wiggles). All characters are lame and act like they are a "Northstar". The male characters are questionable. The other girl character, well, who cares. That's how much I cared for this show.
Everything about this show is mildly repulsive. This show looks like the show on the first Spykids movies, where the show was braintampering with children.
During its long useless run, there were better shows to watch. Don't settle for this.
Last Words: If your children are Lazy all the way around they'll love LazyTown.

This has to be one of the greatest things I have ever laid my eyes upon. Not only is this anime educational, but it's also filled to the brim with class A actors, including the man himself, Stefan Karl Stefansson, aka, Robbie Rotten. Robbie is an extremely likable villain with character development and a heart wrenching backstory. If all of this isn't enough to convince you that this is a perfect anime, then I think this may do it... Robbie Rotten has a hit song called "We Are Number One." Give it a listen; it may change your life forever... if you allow it to. (Warning: This song may cause you to go through intense emotions that may trigger lachrymation. I have no consent over your emotions, and have no influence over the decision you choose to make). May God bless you all.

I thoroughly dislike shows like these. In the end it is little more then propaganda aimed at the youngest among us, and downright insulting towards the intelligence of children.
Furthermore it encourages a negative way of thinking towards people who aren't sportive and people who have weight problems. It generates the idea that if you don't like sport ( or simply aren't good at it), and if you are overweight, that there is something wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with a child that enjoys eating candy, there is nothing wrong with a child who likes to sit down and play a computer game.
It is bad enough so many adults obsess about the shape their body is in, and how much they weigh, do we really need to imprint these negative ways of thinking on our little children?

My daughter is two and a half, and won't eat anything but spaghetti, pizza and vegemite toast. Since she's started watching LazyTown, she has taken to eating apples and carrots, and recently started asking for broccoli! I've watched this show with her, and it's got a wonderful message, is upbeat, the star (Scheving) Sportacus is real easy on a mother's eyes (he can come teach me how to exercise any time!), and the villain, Robbie Rotten, is a master of melodramatic mugging.
I love dance music, and the show has a very modern soundtrack. I listen to a dance station on FM, and every time my daughter gets in the car, she starts yelling, "LazyTown!" She makes me do the dance at the end with her every time.
As far as children's shows go, from a Mom point of view, this one gets 10 stars. You can't get a much better package than this one. With all due respect to the first poster, Oobi is creepy; LazyTown is the best!

A year ago, I wrote a negative review of Lazy Town, but I deleted it since 0 out of 9 users found it helpful. I was never into it, not even when I was little. Whenever it aired on Nick Jr or Noggin, I would turn away from the TV or hide because I was scared of the puppets.
Recently, I watched several episodes on YouTube after hearing good things about it for years. I'm now neutral toward Lazy Town; it's not great, but not terrible either. I wonder what others see in it that I don't. I assume many of you grew up watching Lazy Town and hold it dear to your hearts for that reason. I understand and respect that perspective, but my view comes from a different background. I had some exposure to Lazy Town during my childhood, but I didn't grow up with it in the same way as many other preschool shows, like Sesame Street and Blue's Clues. My limited exposure means I don't feel the same fondness or connection, which may explain my different perspective.
I initially found the title misleading, which made me dislike it. However, after reading a YouTube comment that clarified this misconception, I changed my mind. LazyTown features Stephanie and Sportacus promoting healthy habits, such as eating fruits and vegetables (referred to as "sports candy") and exercising, despite the title suggesting laziness. However, the comment explained that the townspeople often eat junk food and play video games when Stephanie and Sportacus are absent, making the title more fitting. Additionally, Robbie Rotten, the antagonist, consistently tries to thwart their efforts. These items helped me reconsider my feelings about the show.
Sportacus and Stephanie are appealing and positive role models, embodying the values of health, friendship, and perseverance. Sportacus, with his boundless energy and impressive physical abilities, inspires children to lead active lifestyles and embrace fitness. His commitment to hard work shows that anyone can achieve their goals with effort and determination. Stephanie complements this message with her vibrant personality and enthusiasm for fun. Together, they teach important life lessons about teamwork, resilience, and the joy of pursuing one's passions. Their dynamic friendship encourages young viewers to support each other in their goals and to find happiness in movement and play.
Sportacus's portrayal by Magnus Scheving, a real-life gymnast and the creator of the show, adds authenticity to the character. I recently watched a YouTube video that mentioned that Magnus offered the role to other actors, but they all turned it down, leaving him no choice but to play Sportacus himself. This suggests that nobody else fits the role better, especially given Magnus's gymnastics background, which allows him to perform the same moves as the character.
In the first episode, Stephanie moves to LazyTown and meets all her friends for the first time. When she asks them to play soccer, they initially think she wants to play their soccer-themed video game instead. However, Stephanie clarifies that she wants to play soccer in "real" life. This sparks a song about not wasting childhood on screens and technology.
I relate to this moment; even though I was never into playing sports, I sometimes feel bored with technology and miss activities like art, playing with toys, or reading. It's a reminder to focus on what I enjoy beyond screens.
Engaging in sports and non-tech activities allows us to experience life tangibly, as the song highlights. While modern technology already existed when LazyTown premiered in 2004, the rise of devices like iPads and smartphones was yet to come. This makes the show's message feel even more relevant today. It encourages kids to play and explore beyond digital distractions. I enjoy video games, but I don't spend all my playtime on them.
The characters have prosthetic, cartoon-like features that look so realistic that I can't tell they're prosthetics just by looking at them: Robbie has a prominent chin and rubber eyebrows, Sportacus sports a pointy, pencil-thin mustache, and Stephanie has bright pink hair. These features make them look like cartoon characters who have entered the real world.
I initially thought Robbie was the only character who didn't have a seemingly endless amount of energy, but I now know that isn't true. In one episode, Stephanie acknowledges the downsides of having too much energy and calls her friends out for jumping on the furniture at a party. Not to mention, in another episode, Sportacus feels so relaxed while sitting on a rocking chair in Stephanie's living room that he falls asleep in it. These moments made me reconsider my feelings. Sometimes it takes a specific moment or episode to provide a deeper understanding of a series, and Lazy Town is no exception.
While the show's messages about healthy habits are great, it tries too hard. I find the portrayal of sweets unrealistic; whenever Sportacus eats sweets, he passes out, and the only way to restore his energy is to eat an apple. He says in a couple of episodes that it's okay to eat sweets sometimes, but it's hard to ignore that he never eats sweets himself, except when Robbie Rotten disguises them as "sports candy." This leaves me confused about the message they're trying to send. Are they saying we should eat sweets sometimes or avoid them altogether?
Some people may be concerned that Sportacus brushes his teeth so fast and doesn't use toothpaste, and I have to agree. It's important to maintain good oral hygiene, and using toothpaste can help prevent cavities and keep your breath fresh. While Sportacus symbolizes energy and health, perhaps emphasizing a broader dental routine would set a better example for children. After all, teaching proper brushing techniques, including using toothpaste and taking the time to clean teeth thoroughly, can lead to lifelong habits that promote better health.
I find the puppets creepy, possibly too scary for the target audience. They resemble horror movie characters more than kids' show characters, which raises questions about why Nick Jr, Noggin, and Sprout would allow them. Ziggy is the creepiest to me, while Mayor Milford Meanswell is the least so. They might look more appealing if they looked like Muppets.
I recently googled why some Lazy Town characters are puppets and others are real people, but I couldn't find a clear answer. One theory suggests the puppets were once real people but became puppets due to their laziness, needing others to control them. The same comment also said that Stephanie is energetic and new in town, Sportacus is sporty (hence his name), and Robbie productively works on schemes to make the town lazy, so they can't be puppets if the theory is true.
I initially thought the puppets could be interesting from a writing perspective, but they have one-dimensional personalities: Trixie is a trickster, Pixel is a nerd, Ziggy loves sweets, and Stingy is... well, stingy. Trixie and Stingy sometimes come off as mean-spirited, especially when Stingy claims everything to be his. Despite their flaws, they do show growth, like when Stingy steals Sportacus's crystal but later apologizes for his actions. While this growth adds depth to their personalities and allows for character development, they still lack defining traits besides their flaws.
The music and songs are awesome! Some of the background music sounds similar to video game music, most notably Stephanie's "Bing Bang" at the end of every episode. Moreover, the music that plays when Sportacus makes his moves also sounds like video game music and action movie music. Not to mention, most of the songs are Eurodance-based, giving the show a diverse selection of music genres, and many of them encourage specific dances and convey body language.
Robbie Rotten is undoubtedly the highlight of the show and my favorite character due to his humor, expressiveness, and unique personality. Despite being deemed the laziest man in town and hating exercise and "sports candy," he is quite active and often engages in healthy habits to stop others from doing the same. For instance, in one episode, he drinks all the water and eats all the carrots to prevent anyone else from consuming them, and he runs back and forth to accomplish these goals. In another episode, he impersonates Sportacus and wins a race to convince the town he's the real deal.
Robbie frequently uses clever disguises to trick others, such as when he pretends to be a doctor to create a fake illness called "Spotty Vegititus," leading the characters to eat junk food and lie in bed. His character shows that laziness and hard work can coexist, as he combines ingenuity with determination in his schemes.
His eccentricity, inspired by Jim Carrey's Grinch, is evident in his cartoon-like mannerisms and high-energy performance. Many of the show's funniest quotes come from him, including lines like "Who'd you expect? Sportaflop?" and "Don't let your kids watch it!" I particularly relate to his line, "Some children should be seen and never heard," as I'm sensitive to noise. Everything I said about Robbie makes him one of the few fictional villains who is more likable than the hero.
In conclusion, while my initial impressions of Lazy Town were influenced by my childhood fears and limited exposure, I've slightly warmed up to it and come to appreciate the show's morals about health, friendship, and the value of balanced living. I agree with some of the positive comments it commonly receives. However, the puppets still creep me out, and it's not as good as people say, but you should be happy that I gave it a chance.
While Lazy Town isn't my favorite show, I understand its appeal (sort of) and respect its positive impact on kids. If you're not a fan but want something similar, consider The Wiggles. They promote activity through fun songs and dances, showcasing healthy and junk food without the scary puppet vibes (except for a few episodes) and the same negative consequences.

One of the best animes ever along with Cory in the House, Shrek, Bee Movie, Seinfeld, Married...with Children and Nanalan'. If you want your kids to watch quality anime, you've come to the right place. Plus, this anime features some of the greatest songs I've ever heard in my life, such as "You Are a Pirate", "The Mine Song", "Cooking by the Book", "Master of Disguise" and, of course, "We Are Number One". Watch one episode and your life will be changed forever.

OK, so why the heck is this sporticus guy running around doing flips like a monkey every damn second? Quite distracting if you ask me but then again there isn't much story to be had anyway.
Very cheesy, not the greatest acting on the part of Sporticus who i will give credit only for being an athlete. The other 2 characters are more interesting.
I gave it 2 stars for those other actor's contributions and because of the healthy message for kids, but sheesh they need a half decent actor who is YOUNGER to play Sporticus.
Someone with a bit of charm who doesn't take himself as seriously but who you can take more seriously OK, figure that one out ;)

Lazytown was definitely one of the shows I watched the most as a kid. i don't remember too much, but I always remember I love and danced to the songs, and it always found some ways to entertain me. Now, more grown up, I love the memes that come from the show as well. The memes may be partially dead now, but it still remains my favorite meme. Now, Stefan Karl has passed away from cancer, and I really find that to be heartbreaking. He was such an amazing guy, and it really is disgusting that so many great actors, and great people as well, have passed away from cancer over the past decade. God bless him and his family.
I have watched this show several times and to be honest, I don't like this show. I am not impressed at all by the way they educate kids. I have seen better kid's shows and educational programs than this. Although some of the songs are quite catchy, it ultimately get's annoying and repetitive. It's like if I hear one more song, I will bash the TV screen with a baseball bat! I understand that it's trying to teach kids to eat right and stay active but kids can always turn off the TV and actually play outside instead of sitting in front of the television screen! It's like they are teaching the exact opposite of what they are trying to teach! They encourage a negative way of healthy living towards people who aren't sportive and active and people who have overweight problems. It becomes an idea that if you aren't good at sports or don't like it, then you are not good enough. They treat candy like it's a disease and I understand that eating right is important but there is nothing wrong with a kid who eats candy and play's a computer game.
It's bad enough that many teens and adults obsess with the way their bodies look and how much they weigh but do they really need to plaster this negative thinking on our kids? The show get's rather creepy at times, the acting is bad, the puppets look very weird, it becomes incredibly cheesy sometimes, and the way that Sporticus follows Stephenie around all the time is downright creepy! I really feel like Sporticus and Stephenie is having a secret fling going on. I have no idea how old Stephenie is suppose to be but it seems like Sporticus should be registered if you know what I mean. Why do's he feel the need to do a thousand flips every time he go's somewhere? The way he acts and talks makes him seem very haughty and stuck up and he thinks he is so darn special. Robbie Rotton is a lame villain if you ask me. Why do's he care so much about the kids being active and healthy? If he doesn't like it, why don't he just move away? Nobody is forcing him to stay there. So overall, I don't like this show. I know some people love it and if they like it, that's cool. Everybody has their own opinions.

I know that it may not be the best kids show. But in memory of stefán karl stefánsson, I rate this show a 10. Making sure this show is Number 1

And no, just because its "for the kiddies" and i should get a life and leave, you entitled brick will listen my moaning avout it and thank me for it. There is not much say abbout this horrible series. Its like USSSR and some capitalist swindleler came together and farted is series ideas on the table and started making this degenerete dung. And somehow thouse sosiopats made this horrible sht show horrible, terryfinli bad stein working. They sold it to to tens or hunreds cobtries and its veen a perverted hit from the getgo. I think it cant be stopped anynoore. Only option is just completrly destroy it. And oll videokopies. Then we can start fixing the country in other arias.
I would like to give credit to Magnús Scheving for his wonderful work that he's doing for the children, not only of Iceland, but also for the rest of the world. This is a great show, with good values and a captivating way of expressing itself.
This is my son's favorite show (at 2.5 yrs) and asks for it by name. He also often dons the persona of Sporticus when he's playing and acting out his imagination. I can't think of a better role model on children's television.
For those that aren't able to sit through an episode and would like to bad mouth the show, are you the one that is supposed to be watching it? Are you the one that's supposed to be watching Blue or Dora or Calliou? These shows are for your kids. You're job is to make sure that the shows are good for them. Not for you. It's not prime-time material folks. It's children's education (and entertainment).
I'd give Lazytown 5 out of 5, or 10 out of ten, or the max out of the max for as many stars as are available. And that's not just b/c I like the show. But my son does, and he is who really counts.
Way to go Magnús Scheving!!!

I watched Lazytown recently, and I must admit it was just okay. While the show had some catchy songs and colorful visuals, the characters seemed flat, and the plot was predictable. The show's message of promoting healthy living and exercise was commendable but sometimes felt forced. For instance, it included some scenes only to convey the message and could have fit better with the storyline.
Lazytown is a decent show for younger kids who enjoy bright colors and upbeat music. The show's setting is bright and cheerful, and the characters are entertaining for the most part. However, as an adult viewer, I found the show needed more depth and complexity. It did not engage me as much as some other shows, and it missed an opportunity to explore more complex issues.
I would give Lazytown a rating of 5 out of 10. While it is a decent show for younger children, it lacks the depth and complexity that older viewers might look for in a TV show.

When I first spotted Lazytown on Nick, Jr. I could not stand it. The colors are vibrant, the pace fast, the plots silly. However, my sons, ages 2 and 4, were captivated. I gave it another chance for their sakes...and I am very glad I did. The superhero, Sportacus, eats healthy and exercises. The bad guy is Robbie Rotten, who is lazy and eats too much junk food. Although it is about as subtle as a freight train, it is surprising entertaining. My older son will actually say he doesn't want more candy because Sportacus says it's bad for him. Can't beat that for a 23 minute show! Personally, I love the focus on health in this show, but the music is a little too Euro dance club for me. It would be difficult for me to name other new shows that are getting as much attention from the preschool crowd as Lazytown and The Backyardigans.
This show is the best kids show I have seen on TV in a very long time! Blue's Clues is educational and my kids loved it but Lazy Town is fun, energetic AND educational. :D I love the focus on health and fitness. :) I have two kids, a 6 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. Both ADORE this show! We dance around and talk about what happened on the show that day. lol My son comes home and asks his sister what happened and looks forward to pd days so he can watch it himself. rofl The kids even ask for "sports candy" (aka apples) as snacks! I have a basket of them on the table for them to snack on and they love it!
For myself, I love it too! The music is contagious and makes me want to get up and move. If I could find them I would buy every episode on DVD!! hehehe Sportacus is good eye candy for Moms too... rofl ;D I went to the website and found out that Sportacus is the man who produces and created the whole Lazy Town world. :D Two big thumbs up and a hardy THANK YOU to Magnus Scheving for creating a show that gets our kids (and us!) up and moving! The characters, plots, music, backgrounds... they are all captivating and educational! The things needed to help cement the lessons we're trying to teach our kids. :) Everyone should give this show a shot... :D
p.s. I think that some people think things too hard. Sportacus isn't a strange man to Stephanie. He's a hero... So what if he's not related? We have friends that are close enough to be family and I would let them take my kids camping if that's what they wanted to do. :P There's enough bad stuff in the world today... why create more when it's not there?
