Ryan Drummond, the official voice of Sonic the Hedgehog at the time, was going to voice the character in 4Kids Entertainment's English language dub of Sonic X (2003). 4 Kids Entertainment declined to use him because he did not reside in New York City. Drummond then tried to move to New York City for a chance to audition for the role, but 4Kids Entertainment declined that too. Their decision enraged many fans of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Some of the story arcs in the series are pulled directly from the Sonic video games, including Sonikku adobenchâ (1998), Sonikku Adobenchâ 2 (2001), Sonic Battle (2003) and Sonic Heroes (2003).
France was the first country to get Sonic X (2003) dubbed in its own language with everything from the original Japanese version (bar profile cards) intact.
Jason Griffith originally auditioned for the role of Chris Thorndyke. But a producer and executives from Sega told him that his voice sounded Sonic like and asked him to try out and audition for Sonic. Eventually, he got the part and the role of Chris Thorndyke was given to Suzanne Goldish.
The final episode of the series, titled Rebirth of Planets (2005), was released about a month before the 15th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog (1991).
