Neil Buchanan was inspired to make the "'giant pencil case dropped on the floor with bits all over the place" set after doing just that to his own pencil case on his living room floor, and then got the producer to lie on the floor to see it from the right perspective. The film Liebling, ich habe die Kinder geschrumpft (1989) also played a part in the inspiration.
