it does a LOT of reality shows bashing at the old portuguese way. the problem is that the plot was not explored, it depends too much on stupid gags and such, and althoug the actors are good, they are not explored as they should have been. still it makes for some enjoyable 90 minutes.

Leonel Vieira is one of the best directors of what can be called the "modern Portuguese cinema" (films oriented to the masses, closer to the foreign blockbusters, and not being too artsy or oriented to a restricted public) and it's precisely in this quality that I ask: Is A BOMBA the worst film of Leonel Vieira (as a director) so far? I didn't watch all of his movies but I suppose it is! This film is really a mess! However I must say the original idea is not bad as it is quite original and funny, but the final result is not. The first 30 minutes, until the kidnapping of the main characters is not too bad, because the raptors were funny and there were some other cool jokes either. But since the kidnapping the movie went down, but it went so down... It's obvious the sarcastic message of the film, to the terrorism paranoia (it was produced just one year later the 9/11 attack), to the politicians, to the TV shows and their audiences, to the "Big Brother society" in general, but it's so poorly done... It tries so hard to be sarcastic and funny that it ends being just pathetic and silly! It's the typical case of the good idea bad execution! I would like to score it with an extra point for the main idea, but the final result is so absurd and it ends being such a silly movie that I can't score it more than 1/10!
