Enjoyable conversation with 2 TV icons.

I am a huge fan of Star Trek the original series. If you are not, you will likely find this documentary pretty boring and a bit pointless.

This is more about Shatner and Nemoy and their personal life and outlooks and how star trek effected them.. then actually about star trek the TV show.It is well done and very interesting, and we get a glimpse of the inside of Nemoys home.

The DVD has a few nice extras on it including "the making of"

Worth watching if you like this sort of thing, and you definitely learn a thing or two about the pair, ex specially Nemoy,he seems more open and sincere.

Well made.

My Dinner With Kirk and Spock

Your reaction to this program is going to depend on your affection for these two performers and the iconic characters they've portrayed over nearly thirty five years. I've never been to a Star Trek convention ("not that there's anything wrong with that"), and I was late coming to the original series. Still I was fascinated, moved and totally absorbed in listening to and watching these two men interact. For fans of the series and/or movies this is quite a gift. Both Shatner and Nimoy are very articulate, and their conversation covers a broad range of topics relating to both their personal and professional lives. This video taped conversation takes place in the back yard of Nimoy's home and, briefly, in his den. The affection and respect that these two men share for each other is very apparent. I highly recommend this program to those who appreciate Star Trek in its many incarnations, and to those who admire the work of William Shatner and L

A Must See!

In this one-on-one documentary, with William Shatner interviewing Leonard Nimoy, the two legends reveal the struggles and adventures they have experienced because of their work on Star Trek. The two share their personal demons and hardships in this production, which was shot at Nimoy's Los Angeles home. Nimoy's home was the perfect setting with lush gardens and an office adorned with rare personal photographs and star trek memorabilia - any fans dream! Most of all they reveal their incredible bond and the friendship that has lasted almost four decades. This candid interview between Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock is a necessity for all star trek fans!

Thrilling

At first I thought, Who came up with this bright idea? Take two people -- who've know each other for almost forty years, mind you -- and sit them down next to each other for about an hour while the camera is running.

As banal and perfunctory as it sounds in theory, in practice, the concept works -- largely because the clash of the two personalities is (as Mr. Spock would say) fascinating.

Indeed, it is a clash; Shatner and Nimoy couldn't be more different. Yes, they were born four days apart -- as we find out at the beginning of the film -- and their careers following similar arcs, but their professional concerns and personal problems diverged radically. Nimoy, the actor's actor, and Shater, the comedian, approached the roles from different perspectives. Their Trek journeys, although documented in more detail elsewhere, are discussed with benefit of age-weary hindsight.

This film is very entertaining, intriguing in parts, and always interesting. For Trekkers, what more could you want?

Interesting, and much too short.

I found "Mind Meld" to be interesting from a Trekker's perspective, as well as possibly from an actor's. The differences between Nimoy's and Shatner's version of craft is explained in detail, offering insights into why the two are friends. Like salt and pepper, they go together - but play off each other. I found some of Shatner's stories to be redundant with those he's told before. He's hesitant, excited, even nervous. Nimoy, on the other hand, told his old stories with such fluidity and vigor that it was a pleasure to watch him. Many secrets are revealed here, especially about Nimoy's life and struggles. Somehow though - I wanted to hear more about the little things. What ticked them off about life on the set? The food? The tricks? These were all left behind in a cloud of private battles. Graphics interrupt what could have been a continual conversation, dividing it up into subjects. I didn't enjoy that. But watching Nimoy deep in thought, sitting on the edge of his seat, finishing Shatner's sentences for him was incredible. One suddenly had the understanding of how they functioned on the set together on a day to day basis. Best up is that of the conversation inside Nimoy's ground-floor office. Look for it. Not really a must-have for Trekkers, but enjoyable and too short. Try it.

Truly excellent

"Mind Meld" exceeded all my expectations for a film of this nature. It's hard to imagine how two guys sitting together and talking could be so fascinating, but I found myself riveted by the insights and interaction between these two fellows discussing such a famous and well-known series. Not a moment of boredom to be found here.

The re-watchability factor is surprisingly high as well. I've seen "Mind Meld" now about 4 times, and found it equally interesting each viewing. Not sure why that is, but it makes purchasing the DVD a really good idea. I ended up doing just that, and am not sorry. One of the most interesting one-to-one's I've seen. Recommended for anyone who's even a slight fan of the original "Star Trek" series.

I highly recommend this program to those people who appreciate Star Trek...

This will be brief commentary about a great program. I loved this DVD, It was very interesting to see what Kirk & Spock had to say about their lives on and off Star Trek.

This is a great program if you like Star Trek or are a fan of Mr Shatner or Mr Nimoy. If not, this i just 70 minutes of boring conversation.

But i loved it, and i loved it a lot.

Best Document of The Original Series!

I first want to admit that I am a big fan of Star Trek. As a fan, I appreciated the format of a one on one interview between Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner. This probably wouldn't have been as interesting to me if it wouldn't have been for the fact that both actors are over 70 years old now and they had a lot to say. It might have been nice if a 3rd party would have been involved in the questioning process, but all in all, I enjoyed it very much and have watched it twice now.

Shatner's reflecting back to an episode of Star Trek (Devil in the Dark) and Nimoy's reaction to Shatner's memory of the incident was very amusing and reminded me of a simular situation I'd shared with a friend recently.

This is no doubt focused on the memory of Star Trek to these two lead actors of The Original Series. Of the documentaries on the series, this was definately the best of the bunch. If your a moderate fan of Star Trek, rent it if you can find it. If your a big fan, this is a must have to add to your collection.
