"Dubai" is a film that revolves around Major Ravi Mammen; his journey from a betrayed soldier, to a succesful millionaire businessman in Dubai and his relationships with various characters and the revenge.
Made on a huge canvas, this was definitely a landmark in malayalam film industry. After "Ayal Kadha Ezhuthukayaanu" that gave a glimpse of Dubai, this sure did utilise the location well without over emphasizing on it.
Joshiy and Renji Panicker made a film with very well written story, strong dialogues, a very big cast list including Bharat Gopi, Janardhanan, NF Varghese, Cochin Haneefa, Nirmal Pandey, Biju Menon,Preeti, Nedumudi Venu, Anjala Zaveri and much more alongside Mammootty. The film has an ending which was a bit let down, but not inferior in quality.
The film was unnecessarily criticised at the time of release. Had missed watching this due to poor reviews over the years. Considering the "Industry Hits" made nowadays with pathetic stories, nauseating dialogues and senseless acting, even from actors like Mammooty and Mohanlal, this indeed deserves better appreciation.
The music from S. P Venkatesh did add an impact to scenes. Vidyasagar made songs pretty good.
The film length of more than three hours could've been cut short.
Overall this is a well written, well directed film that can be watched even two decades past its making.

The film was satisfying. I did feel it should've focused on the Indian army, especially when Ravi Varma gets imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. It could've explored his life and struggles in and out of prison to give a tribute to Indian army officers who work day and night to protect the borders and also carry out other vital responsibilities.
If it happened, then this film could've been a blockbuster. I feel Renji Panicker can make up for it in 2025 or afterwards if he only does it with a young start like Tovino Thomas.
Being an army officer to a businessman isn't an easy trip and can raise a lot of questions as to how it happened. In this film, it could've been given. A perspective on how that happened, but it moves towards the present.
