i just came back from a screening of this film during the film-fest here in Harrisburg, pa and man it took a lot of restraint not to walk out of it. i can't believe i sat through the whole thing. this has got to be one of the worst films i've ever seen. a lot of people were walking out of it but i braved the boredom only to feel that my time was completely wasted. and it had nothing to do with experimental films, of which i've seen many and have loved. this film made ed wood look like a brilliant filmmaker. this movie was pointless and meandering. no plot, which is OK but the whole movie was just a bunch of scenes that really didn't transition well with each other. in attendance at the screening was the films star Taylor Mead which made it a more memorable experience. he even said the film was boring and thanked the crowd for their patience. to me this movie proves that Warhol didn't have much talent when it came to making films. Mead said he liked boring things and didn't want plot, only relationships. well this films shows that very well. i caution anyone who gets the chance to see this monstrosity of a film, be prepared to be bored out of your skull. and another thing, i really got tired of looking at Taylor Mead's butt through the whole film. a young Dennis hopper makes an appearance in the film.

It looks like Andy Warhol and pals are just joking around having a good time, riffing on the idea of Tarzan and Jane in Hollywood (and in Tarzana, California -- which was named after Tarzan). Some scenes are endless and some are in poor taste. But amidst the mess are some amazingly beautiful images, some very brilliant transitions, great use of sound (not sync) and a lot of witty, funny moments. At the screening I went to (at the American Cinematheque), a lot of people walked out -- I think that's because there's no audience used to experimental films any more. I found the whole thing fascinating and fun, even if it was occasionally infuriating because there's way too much footage of Taylor Mead's butt. Worth seeing but be prepared for something you haven't experienced before.
