a chain of memories. about pages from the Life of Saints. from Renaissance art. from Derek Jarman filmography. all is familiar. but the adaptation of martyrdom by Bavo Defurne is obvious surprising. for the angle to say the story - the call of boy to the Christians to be witness to the execution and the rhythm who grows up the tension. for the answer of Saint Sebastian to the proposition of revenge. the black and white who seems be part from so many drawings, graffiti, from A Song of Love and Pasolini, from the films from the decade IV of the XX century are the ingredients who give a special status to the film.because not only reminds. but it explores the tragedy of the young saint in touching manner.

This story of a roman soldier who is executed because of his Christian beliefs has been a staple of painters and sculptors since medieval times. Here it is given another retelling by a gay filmmaker. Its imagery has touches of James Bidgood and Bruce Weber and is beautifully done. While there is no dialogue many of the images speak volumes. Its well worth the few minutes it takes to see it and a few of these images will stay with you long after the film ends.
