Handlung

A young woman Min loses her job, her boyfriend and her flat on the same day, throwing her life into chaos. Fortunately her best friend Jaz, comes to her rescue and finds her a new flat with a seemingly nice male student, as well as a new job. A boyfriend takes much longer though, and the two girls discuss life, love and sex throughout the film, as they try to make ends meet in inner-city Sydney in the mid-90s.—Peter M

A group of women get together in front of the TV and talk about their sexual misadventures and problems. The main focus is a young troubled woman (Sara Browne), who has just broken up with her boy friend and moves into a vacant room with one of her friends (Astrid Grant). When she hears about the problems the friend is having with her boy friend (Michael Walker), she ends up dating him and ending her friendship. Meanwhile another man in her rooming house is bedding every woman he sees to get over his own broken relationship. Min (Sara Browne) is a 22-year-old woman who loses her job, boyfriend and flat on the same day (her boyfriend Michael slept with her flatmate Monica, so Monica asked her to move out when Min confronted her). Min's best friend, Jaz, (Astrid Grant) is there for her, and suggests moving in with David (Nicholas Bishop), a handsome student renting a nice flat. He accepts Min on sight, but it's clear that he's into much more academic things than she is used to. He's also, as Min discovers, into casual sex with lots of girls, whereas Min doesn't have a sexual partner, and has to listen to David having sex every night, which increases her sense of frustration. Jaz also finds Min a job in a coffee shop, so her life appears to be getting back on track. The girls confide in each other about everything, including the fact that Jaz is feeling sexually unsatisfied by Stanley, her long-term boyfriend of almost a year. After some time, Jaz decides to break up with Stanley because she feels the relationship is going nowhere. Stanley is stunned and comes to Min to ask her what he should do, and Min decides he is not as bad as Jaz has said. When Jaz hears that Min has talked to Stanley, she feels Min was disloyal and they argue, causing a rift between them which does not heal for some weeks (or months?). Min and David have a party, attended by three of Min's girlfriends, but not Jaz. After the party, Stanley fixes Min's car for her, adding to her feeling that he is a nice guy. Some time later Min misses Jaz and phones her to reconcile, but has to leave a message; later Jaz comes to see Min at her café, and tells her that she is off to Europe for a year or so, leaving in a few hours. The two reconcile, and Jaz leaves. Some time later, Min approaches Stanley with an offer of a sex-only arrangement, and they start meeting for sex, the first sex that Min has had in months. She discovers that sex with Stanley is wonderful, though Jaz was always disappointed in him, claiming he came too quickly (a complaint Stanley also made about Jaz, confusingly). After some weeks of sexual exploits, the two fall in love and become a couple. Min also resolves to always be friends with Jaz, whom she sees as her best friend, even though Jaz seems happy overseas, where she has meet an Italian from Sydney in Austria.
