15 Classic TV Shows That Would Never Be Made Today
Image
Have you ever experienced this before? You're watching one of your comfort shows from decades ago, something you remember fondly watching when you were younger and want to relive that same magic. All of a sudden, you come face-to-face with a horrific joke that no longer passes the vibe check. Everything from "Friends" to "The Simpsons" have jokes that aged terribly, but there's a different kind of realization you might come to with certain programs. While some shows have singular episodes that no longer work, some series have central premises that no network or streamer would take a chance on today.

Making a list of TV shows that would never be made today is pretty common, but many of these other lists have entries that just don't make sense. Like how can you say that "South Park" couldn't be made today when new episodes are currently getting made? There are...

10 Reasons The Seinfeld Series Finale Was A Disaster
Image
A quarter of a century after it went off the air, Seinfeld is still noted as one of the best TV series of all time, which is why the series finale is considered such a disaster. An award-winning groundbreaker, the show avoided the tropes of its sitcom ancestors by humorously portraying the trivialities and superficial inconveniences of daily life through the story of four friends living in New York. Seinfeld became a pop culture phenomenon that instantly launched its main cast into celebrityhood, and yet, the series finale was a disaster.

Episodes of Seinfeld, which ran for nine seasons from 1989 to 1998, were the next day's water cooler talk. Classics like "The Puffy Shirt," "The Boyfriend," "The Frogger," "The Contest" and "The Chinese Restaurant" have continued to elicit laughter from viewers. Then, there is "The Finale" which unintentionally became the most hated episode of the series. Here are the 10 reasons why the Seinfeld ending didn't work.

Farewell Jerry Springer, the Patron Saint of American Dysfunction
Image
R.I.P. to the great Jerry Springer, who died Thursday at 79. This man revolutionized daytime TV — he was the Martha Graham of afternoon talk-show slap-and-punch choreography. His eponymously titled show was a beautifully bizarre pageant of dysfunctional American life: you watched strangers sit down onstage, listened to them confess horrible betrayals, and waited for them to lunge out of their chairs and scream. There was something so cathartic in it. You felt cheated if you watched an episode where nobody got into a brawl.

Jerry was not like other talk-show hosts.

Jerry Springer, Politician Turned Tabloid TV Host, Dies At 79
Image
Former Cincinnati mayor and long-time television host, Jerry Springer, has died at 79 following a “brief illness,” at his Chicago home on Thursday morning. Springer’s long-time friend and rabbi confirmed his “sudden” illness to have been pancreatic cancer.

“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” Jene Galvin, a family friend and executive producer of Springer’s podcast, said in a statement. “He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”

In Memoriam 2022: 100 Great Celebrities Who Died In 2022

Earning a law degree from Northwestern Univesity in 1968, Springer began his political career in 1971 as a member of the Cincinnati City Council, before resigning in 1974. While he initially cited “very personal...

Remember When Jerry Springer's Talk Show Became So Popular That Hollywood Gave Him A Movie?
Image
On April 27, 2023, former Cincinnati mayor and longtime talk show host Jerry Springer passed away. He was 79. The man led a long and textured life with many acts. As a boy, he fled England as it was being bombed by the Nazis. He came to the United States and began studying law, eventually becoming a Doctor of Jurisprudence. He was a campaign adviser for John F. Kennedy, and practiced law in Cincinnati. In 1971, he sat on the Cincinnati city council, but was infamously kicked off in 1974 for a sex scandal. Springer had been candid about the scandal over the following years, and even laughed at himself a little bit for using a personal check to pay a sex worker.

This didn't stymie his career, and he became the mayor of Cincinnati in 1978. It wouldn't be until 1991 that Springer, having accrued some broadcasting experience, would become a talk show host. "Jerry Springer" began innocently enough,...

Jerry Springer Cameoed In One Of The Simpsons' Best Treehouse Of Horror Episodes
Image
Even if longtime fans of "The Simpsons" have fallen away from their love of the series in recent years, the "Treehouse of Horror" episodes typically have the power to bring them back. Every Halloween for over 30 years, "The Simpsons" has delivered an ongoing series of anthology shorts that take inspiration from horror, sci-fi, and fantasy genres. Acting as "The Simpsons" version of "The Twilight Zone" or "The Outer Limits," each episode contains a few shorts that find Springfield's finest caught up in some kind of unbelievable story. It should come as no surprise that some of the great moments in Simpsons history comes from these episodes, and the recent passing of controversial talk show host Jerry Springer just reminded us of one of those hilarious bits.

During the tenth season of "The Simpsons" in October 1998, writer David X. Cohen (who would go on to co-create the brilliant "Futurama") gave us the segment "Starship Poopers.

Jerry Springer: The famous talk show host has passed away at the age of 79
Image
One of the biggest pop culture staples of the late 90s was The Jerry Springer Show. It brought forth the popularity of guilty pleasure, trash television as outrageous guests talk without filters, argue with the audience and each other, and eventually get into fist fights. The show itself made cameo appearances in other mediums, like a segment in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me where Dr. Evil returns and eventually gets into a fight with another guest. Chances are, you probably chanted his name at one point, following suit as the audience cheer him on as the shit hits the fan on his show.

Variety now reports that the famed host has passed at the age of 79. Springer started as a former Cincinnati news anchor and mayor before he found a place on daytime television. Springer is said to have died peacefully at his home in the Chicago suburbs on Thursday.

‘The Masked Singer’ Reveals First Season 8 Costume, the Dragon ‘Bride’ (Exclusive)
Image
After last season’s controversial decision to include a disgraced politician who is the target of a criminal investigation involving the attempts in 2020 to overthrow the democratically-elected President of the United States, “The Masked Singer” returns next month with a new crop of contestants — and Variety has a first look at one of the costumes.

“Bride,” the dragon-esque character as seen above, reps the first character to be introduced so far for the Season 8 of “Masked Singer.” Bride was created by costume designer Tim Chappel, who has also designed creations for the Australian version of the series.

Fox has so far not revealed any other characters. But the show is having some fun with speculation on social media (and on the Fox-owned TMZ website) that NFL superstar Tom Brady may appear on the new season, since he’s been missing from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp.

The show, which returns Wednesday,...

In a ‘Masked Singer’ first, Baby Mammoth had to be told Not to ‘poop on the stage’
Image
After seven seasons on the air, “The Masked Singer” is still making history. First a contestant choked on stage, then she stormed off in a diva fit. Now, a costume had to be warned by production not to defecate on camera. Yep, you read that right. “They told me that I could do anything I wanted out here except poop on the stage,” revealed Baby Mammoth during the April 20 episode. “And so I’m gonna take a very big win. Because although you can poop in the circus, you are not allowed on this show.”

The four panelists — Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger — were gobsmacked at hearing the fluffy pink elephant say that. Talk about Tmi! “That’s right, Baby Mammoth, that’s right,” Ken declared as if speaking to a toddler. Hmm, do they even make diapers big enough for a creature of her size?...

Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 7, Episode 6, of “The Masked Singer,” “The Double Mask-Off — Round 2 Finals,” which aired April 13 on Fox.

The mystery of host Nick Cannon’s missing shirt wasn’t solved on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” but the show did send one more disguised celebrity to its final round. That meant that two more contestants were eliminated in a double exit on this week’s show: Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman as the Armadillo, and Jennifer Holliday as Miss Teddy.

Armadillo aka Chapman was voted out after singing the traditional hymn “Amazing Grace.” Previous songs he performed included “Secret Agent Man,” by Johnny Rivers and “I Fought the Law,” by the Bobby Fuller Four.

As for Holliday, as Miss Teddy, she sang “Mercy,” by Duffy. Before that, she performed “Tell It to My Heart,” by Taylor Dayne, and “Tell Me You Love Me,...

Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? This week, […]

Neha Dhupia at loggerheads with Prince, Nikhil
A heated verbal battle and loud voices -- the situation is now warming up in the youth-based reality show "Roadies Real Heroes" as gang leaders Neha Dhupia, Nikhil Chinapa and Prince Narula were seen engaged in an argument.

It began with 'Ringmaster' Rannvijay Singha introducing this week's task 'Relay Jelay' to the contestants where every gang had to lift their leaders on a palanquin. Whoever would win the task would get an advantage.

As the task was introduced, Neha was apprehensive whether her team would be able to lift her carefully.

Things got murkier as Rannvijay added a new twist to the task: If the contestants got dehydrated and wanted to drink water during the task, each water bottle consumed would add 5 kg weight onto their palanquin.

During the vote night, Prince commented: "Strong contestant ko vote out kardo (vote out strong contestants)", and accused Neha of stopping people to join his team.

Stone Cold Steve Austin To Cesaro “F*** All The Politics” In WWE
wwe.com

Stone Cold Steve Austin has had his say on WWE and Cesaro, shooting “Time for this guy to come back both guns blazing. F**k all of the politics. I’m going to the top.”

Austin was speaking on his latest podcast, expressing disappointment at Cesaro’s current injury lay-off. Austin himself is no stranger to injuries, and said that Cesaro should use this time to come up with ideas to re-invent himself. That was one of Austin’s strong points, he was always coming up with creative ideas for his Rattlesnake character. He came up with “Stone Cold” when sat at home and frustrated with his Ringmaster gimmick. Cesaro could do the same, although it is a different generation, getting an idea to creative and Vince McMahon isn’t as easy.

Austin feels like Cesaro deserves better, saying that WWE should “give him the ball” and let him run with it.

11 Stupidest Wrestling Names Ever
WWE.com

A good ring name can absolutely transform a career; just look at Steve Austin. A brief flash of inspiration, apparently provided by his second wife, gave birth to one of the most famous ring names in wrestling – when she told the Rattlesnake to drink his coffee before it went ‘Stone Cold’. Before that he was struggling with the ill-fitting ‘Ringmaster’. Afterwards, he had a name which rolled off the tongue, conjured the correct image, and made sense in the context of his character.

Equally, a bad ring name can have disastrous consequences, but which is the worst in wrestling history? For every simple, evocative title such as ‘The Rock’, ‘Kane’, or ‘Undertaker’ – names that instantly tell us everything we need to know about a certain wrestler – there’s a confusing, bawdy, or downright unsuitable moniker out there.

It’s important not to confuse a terrible ring name with...

10 Awesome WWE Gimmicks That Were Dropped Way Too Soon
WWE.com

A great gimmick can mean so much to any performer in WWE. For every amazing character that has lasted a long time like The Undertaker or Kane, there’s a long list of terrible ones like Kwang, The Sultan, Aldo Montoya and so many others. If you lined up all the terrible gimmicks in wrestling history it would be a pile that would last miles long.

If a great wrestler is saddled with a terrible gimmick then they will never succeed. Look at Ricky Steamboat as “The Dragon” when he was breathing fire or Steve Austin starting out as The Ringmaster with Ted Dibiase managing him before really breaking out as “Stone Cold” on his own.

There are a lot of characters that appeared to be great and then for whatever reason they were dropped too early. As we know in wrestling, there are always other circumstances. Vince McMahon...

7 WWE Midcarders That Should Break Through In 2015
WWE.com

There are only two months left in 2014, so it’s the time of year where WWE has to start thinking about what stars they currently employ have the potential to go from midcard to near that main event level.

We’ve seen it so many times in wrestling history where guys are locked in midcard spots, then within a few years they go from the “Ringmaster” Steve Austin to the top guy “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Triple H was a rich snob three years before he won his first WWE Title. It took a guy like Mark Henry 15 years to become a World Champion. Some get there faster than others, but if you hang around you just never know when your time might come.

If you look at the WWE roster as it sits right now, who are some of the guys that can be (to borrow an...

10 WWE Stars Who Were Unrecognizable From Their Early Days
WWE

The wrestling business is full of interesting characters. It’s why we fell in love with it as kids, why we keep watching it today and why we’ll continue to watch it in the future. If every character was the same things would get boring. We want to see different guys with unique personalities.

What happens sometimes in wrestling, whether we realize it or not at the time, is the same performer might be a different character after undergoing a major change to their look. When we’re kids we probably have no idea about that stuff. As online fans, we figure it out right away and immediately bring up that wrestler’s previous identity. That’s why you might hear “Husky Harris” chants for Bray Wyatt these days. Some fans never forget.

It’s time to reflect back on those performers that played multiple character and did...

WWE: 20 Awful Gimmicks That Were Quickly Dropped
YouTube

In the history of pro wrestling, there have been hundreds of characters that fans will remember forever. There are some great ones like The Undertaker, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, Mankind and many others that we remember as the best of all time. What about the bad ones? Oh there are so many awful ones that we will never forget.

The hard thing about coming up with just 20 awful gimmicks is that there are so many that immediately come to mind that can’t make it just because there are others that were worse. In most cases, a lot of time they don’t work because the performers are awful. At other times, the gimmick is so stupid that even the best performers even couldn’t make it work. I’m not going to include the Ringmaster, but even somebody as talented as Steve Austin had a tough...

WWE: 10 People Who Couldn’t Take A Stone Cold Stunner
In 1996 Steve Austin ditched the Ringmaster gimmick and became the alcohol fueled redneck known as Stone Cold Steve Austin. With the new gimmick came a new finishing maneuver. A seated three-quarter facelock jawbreaker known as the Stone Cold Stunner. Austin took this new attitude and new finisher and ran with it to new heights in the WWE.

The Stunner is a great finisher for the audience because there is little setup for it. Usually the sequence was a missed punch or clothesline by the opponent, kick to the gut by Austin, and boom, Stunner. But unlike most finishers, which have an established reaction to them, selling the Stunner is open to interpretation. Some people sell it perfectly, like Shawn Michaels, Triple H, or Kurt Angle. Others….not so much.

Here are the 10 People Who Couldn’t Take A Stone Cold Stunner.

10. Vince McMahon

Don’t get me wrong, Vince can take a Stunner now.

On the Late Show: Talk Show Hosts in Movies
This week, the world of late night television experiences its biggest shakeup in years, as Jimmy Fallon takes the reigns of NBC's "Late Night" from Conan O'Brien, who, at the start of June, will take over "The Tonight Show" from Jay Leno, who moves on to start his own talk show at 10pm. With talk show hosts on our minds these days, it seemed like a good time to look back and see how they've fared on the silver screen.

Qualifications for inclusion were simple: the talk show host in question has to be best known -- and most successful -- in their show business career as a talk show host. Craig Ferguson, current host of CBS' "Late Late Show," carved out a long and successful career as an actor and director of such films as "The Big Tease" before accepting the slot after David Letterman, so he was out.

Jerry Springer
Few celebrities reach the notoriety of Jerry Springer, whose name is not only known in households throughout the world, it's synonymous with dysfunctional, bottom-of-the-barrel entertainment. But the host of the 17-year-old trash-tv program The Jerry Springer Show is a far cry from the Cincinnati lawyer who was elected to three terms on his City Council—the third after he was publicly disgraced for paying for a prostitute with a check—and a term as the city's mayor. Following an unsuccessful gubernatorial bid in Ohio, he pursued a career in television, first as a local news anchor, and then as, well, Jerry Springer. His show's success has let the lifelong Democrat travel the country, using his celebrity status to champion liberal causes, raise money, and endorse candidates. He's also made cameos in TV and film, appeared in his own movie, Ringmaster, and released a music Cd titled Dr. Talk. Springer recently spoke with.
