Symon Basterfield returns to the series having sat the last instalment out. (His first wife wasn't keen on the project; his new wife had no such objections.)
Of the 14 original interviewees, 11 take part in this installment.
John Brisby - who used the previous film 35 Up (1991) to tout business for his Bulgarian charity work - declined to appear in this instalment.
According to an interview with Michadl Apted with Roger Ebert in 2006, he reflected on cutting out a question and answer that didn't work. Around the time of filming it was in the aftermath of Princess Diana's death, and he thought originally it could be interesting to see their thoughts on it at such a pivotal moment in British history and politics. In editing he realized that he didn't need to have the interviewees talking about that or most politics because "their lives are already political."
