Daltanious was the first combining super-robot with an animal component. One of its components was a lion-shaped robot, and Daltanious had a lion's head on its chest. The lion's head motif would later be used by several robots in the "Brave series" franchise of the 1990s. Both Daltanious and the "Brave series" were created by the same animation studio, Sunrise.
The robot Daltanious is named after D'Artagnan, the main character of "The Three Musketeers". The Japanese pronunciation uses "l" in place of "r".
