Very good TV-Series with almost all Belgian top actors and actresses of that moment. Jo Demeyere is still one of the best actors in Belgium. It's a story that begins at the beginning of World War I. A mayor is untouchable in Houtegem "a village in Flanders lain in the forests of Flanders". When the husband of the Mistress of the mayor has been assassinated, is this the first of a range mysterious kills. A journalist wants to clear up the murders and succeeds bringing two friends of the mayor to court. But the mayor is powerful. The forests of Flanders do not entirely give up their mystery.

Historical serial about power, passion, fear and courage.

Based on true events, unsolved murders in unclear circumstances, that occurred in the first quarter of the 20th century. The story grasps the viewer's attention and drags him into the mysteries of the woods of Flanders. The plot is very intriguing. The cast is composed of the best Flemish actors, at the time and in the present. Their performance is sublime and proves, not for the first time, that they can compete internationally. The producer, director, e.d. really succeeded in creating an excellent historical image of Belgium and Flanders in the early decades of the 20th century, against the background of WW I and the interbellum, using fabulous settings and authentic clothing. Is it fiction or did events go down like this? We'll never know.
