Charlie Hunnam in Die versunkene Stadt Z (2016)
Why Brad Pitt Sent James Gray ‘The Lost City of Z’ And Pushed the Filmmaker In a New Direction — Podcast
Charlie Hunnam in Die versunkene Stadt Z (2016)
After James Gray finished reading David Grann’s book “The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon” – a nonfiction chronicle of British explorer Percy Fawcett’s obsessive quest to find a lost civilization buried deep in the Amazonian jungle – he was confused why Brad Pitt had sent it to him.

“I have absolutely no idea what they want me to do this,” said Gray when he was guest on IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “There had been nothing in my career as a director that had shown I could do anything like this.”

Paramount had bought the book for Pitt , whose production company Plan B (“Moonlight,” “12 Years a Slave”) ultimately produced the film. Pitt had always wanted to work with Gray, and while it didn’t happen this time, Pitt will star in Gray’s Sci Fi film “Ad Astra,” which is shooting this summer.

“White Girl,” September 2 – Elizabeth Wood, Writer and Director

Elizabeth Wood’s feature film debut was almost immediately deemed “shocking!” and “racy!” and “wild!” as soon as it debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, but underneath a film about throwing caution to the wind in the pursuit of both terrible decisions and the capricious joys of youth beats a big, honest heart. Wood’s...

Edward Norton, Zach Galifianakis, Amy Ryan, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, and Andrea Riseborough in Birdman oder (Die unverhoffte Macht der Ahnungslosigkeit) (2014)
Hey everyone! We've been up working almost non-stop since 5:30 Am for the Academy Award nominations and haven't napped yet.  That means it's time to live-blog the 2015 Critics' Choice Awards right?  Who's excited?  Anyone got an over/under for a "Lego Movie" or "Dick Poop" call out?  In case you forgot who was nominated, check out this year's honorees here. 6:00 Pm - The show has started and host Michael Strahan is doing some 'Magic Mike Xxl' themed intro number.  Whoever thought this was a good idea should probably not come back to the show next year.  Strahan explains who the Bfca (the Broadcast Film Critics Association) is without saying those words.  Strahan tries to joke with some of the nominees in the audience.  We're not sure this is working.  Strahan wants a "Birdman-Strahan" sequel.  Whew, we're cutting to a 2014 in review montage. 6:05 Pm - Strahan goes...

Plan B (1997)
David Oyelowo joins Lupita Nyong’o in Brad Pitt-produced 'Americanah'
Plan B (1997)
Last year, Lupita Nyong’o stepped out from obscurity to wow crowds in "12 Years a Slave" and earn her first Oscar. 12 months later, supporting actor workhorse David Oyelowo is taking a similar jump, earning rave reviews for his role as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in "Selma." The unexpected common link between the two performances? Brad Pitt and his production banner Plan B. Now, according to Variety, Pitt will play matchmaker for this critically acclaimed pair: They’ll star together in Plan B’s new indie film "Americanah." Based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel of the same name, the story follows a Nigerian immigrant couple surviving in their new home and struggling to keep their relationship together. Pitt is producing, along with Nyong’o and Andrea Calderwood. According to Variety, after having a positive experience working with Plan B on "Selma," "Oyelowo jumped at the opportunity to board another project they were producing.

David Oyelowo Joins Lupita Nyong'o in 'Americanah'
Lupita Nyong'o at an event for 12 Years a Slave (2013)
Six months after Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o signed on to star in and produce Americanah, David Oyelowo has joined the cast. The story is an adaptation of the novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Half of a Yellow Sun), which centers on a pair of Nigerian immigrants. The movie will follow their lifetime of struggles as their relationship grows stronger. The project is currently seeking a writer and director at this time.

Brad Pitt is producing through his Plan B Productions company, alongside Lupita Nyong'o and Andrea Calderwood (A Most Wanted Man). Lupita Nyong'o won an Oscar earlier this year for her portrayal in Best Picture winner 12 Years a Slave, which Brad Pitt also starred in and produced. Plan B also produces the upcoming Selma, which stars David Oyelowo in his Golden Globe nominated performance as Martin Luther King. No production schedule was given at this time for Americanah.

'The Voice' UK teams so far: Who is your favourite?
Who blew you away? Who do you think didn't deserve a chair spin? Digital Spy takes a closer look at the coaches' teams after show one on The Voice UK.

Team Tom

Tom was trigger-happy with his buzzer last year and seems to have learned his lesson second time around, only picking up one act in the first show. However, his pick of Mike Ward, a Salford bad boy with a soulful country music twang, may have been one of the smartest bits of business of the evening.

Plan B meets Mumford & Sons, Mike has the swagger and the teary mum, and he now has the 'Silver Bear' fighting his corner.

Team Jessie

Was there anyone that Jessie J didn't turn around for this evening? Oh yeah, Kavana. But apart from the '90s Smash Hits pin-up, Jessie rarely stopped herself having a spin and picked up three acts for her team.

Julia Roberts Catches Up With Handsome Pals Dermot and Ewan
Julia Roberts at an event for Der Krieg des Charlie Wilson (2007)
Julia Roberts met up with some of her famous friends for lunch at Hal's Bar and Grill in Venice, CA, yesterday. She was joined by her August: Osage County costars Ewan McGregor (and his wife, Eve Mavrakis), Dermot Mulroney, and Julianne Nicholson for a casual meal. Filming has reportedly wrapped on the production, but it appears the friends are intent on keeping in touch. Julia's next project pairs her with another fellow A-lister, Brad Pitt. Brad's production company, Plan B, is producing The Normal Heart, which is set to star Julia alongside Matt Bomer and Alec Baldwin. As for Ewan, he's got an exciting few months ahead. His name has been thrown around recently as Oscar buzz is building around his gripping role in The Impossible. It appears Ewan's already got Angelina Jolie on his side, so it's possible he could get Julia's support as well. Dermot may not be...

"The Vampire Diaries" 407: "Sibling Rivalry"
Previously, on The Vampire Diaries

Vdvo: Ghoulies, ghosties, long-leggedy beasties, Stefan wants the cure, Jeremy gets marked, Elena drinks from the vein.

Stefan's doing calisthenics in the woods, as one does, while also chatting with Caroline about his break up with Elena. Caroline, hip deep in putting together the Miss Mystic Falls pageant, is revolted to learn about Elena's feelings for Damon and vows to talk some sense into her. I care nothing about Elena and her loves, so about this scene all I will say is that whatever wardrobe mistress buys Stefan's wifebeaters should be given a raise right now.

Stefan hangs up with Caroline and is immediately taken from behind by Klaus.

He's furious that Stefan spilled about the cure and orders Stefan to rustle up some vampires for Jeremy to kill (to expand his Hunter's mark map). Title card!

Brad Pitt Brings 'Paper' To HBO, Says He'd Love To Reteam With David Fincher For '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea'
Brad Pitt
Though basic cable networks like FX and AMC, as well as streaming giant Netflix, are trying their hand at the type of programming that made HBO famous, the cable company isn’t yielding an inch. Variety is reporting that the venerated cable channel is developing the new series “Paper” with Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B. Based on the New Yorker article "Pay Up" by Jake Halpern from October 2010 (read it here), “Paper” will follow “a former cocaine dealer and gangster named Jimmy who lives in Buffalo, NY and who’s sought to reform his life by getting into business as a professional debt collector, a gig that turns out to be just as potentially dangerous as his previous life of crime.” Non-fiction and short story writer Wells Tower will write and executive produce. No word on the production timeline, but our guess is that it’s still at least a way off.

Plan B (1997)
The newest high-end project to land in development at HBO involves Brad Pitt, the New Yorker and award-winning short fiction writer Wells Tower. Variety reports that Pitt's company Plan B is now home to "Paper," an hour-long drama being developed by HBO based on Jake Halpern's 2010 New Yorker article "Pay Up." The story is about a former cocaine dealer and gangster named Jimmy who lives in Buffalo, NY and who's sought to reform his life by getting into business as a professional debt collector, a gig that turns out to be just as potentially dangerous as his previous life of crime. Brad Pitt in Killing Them Softly (2012)
Is Brad Pitt Headed For The Downside Of His Career?
Brad Pitt in Killing Them Softly (2012)
New York -- The face is hardly wrinkled and the long blond locks appear unchanged, but Brad Pitt, who will turn 49 in December, is increasingly preoccupied with the passage of time and the thought that his rarefied place in movies is fleeting.

It's now been more than 20 years since Pitt broke out as the heartthrob of "Thelma & Louise." While nothing has diminished his status as one of the few genuine movie stars on the planet, Pitt says he's now working as if an expiration date lurks.

"I'm definitely past halfway," says Pitt. "I think about it very much as a father. You just want to be around to see (your children) do everything. If I have so many days left, how am I filling those days? I've been agonizing over that one a bit like I never have before."

But that sense of urgency has helped fuel some of Pitt's best,...

Homeland Recap: A Very Close Call
Nassar in Mugamoodi (2012)
This week on Showtime’s Homeland, Brody resurfaced after his unexpected tete-a-tete with Abu Nazir, Jessica fell back into an old habit and one CIA staffer was seen in a new light.

Adieu, Nazir? | The action starts some 12 hours after Brody was picked up by helicopter from the countryside clearing and whisked off to, unbeknownst to anyone, a meeting with Abu Nazir. As such, Carrie fears that their asset is dead — if not physically, then operationally. Estes suggests they move in on Roya, though if Brody is alive, that will burn him in a jiffy.

But their strategizing is moot.

'Walking Dead' Recap: Episode 3.06, 'Hounded'
by Kat Rosenfield

In last week's episode of "The Walking Dead," the high walls of Woodbury came down between our favorite lady travelers. Andrea, seduced by the promise of safety and hot showers (not to mention hot something else with a certain non-elected official) stayed; Michonne, convinced that this so-called safe haven was anything but, walked through the front gates with the Governor's blessing, never to be seen again.

Except for the part where they track her down and try to kill her, of course, because Woodbury is actually the worst.

Merle and a team of mercenaries are on Michonne's tail, and she's left a message to them in a forest clearing: a zombie body part pictogram that reads, Go Back. (Yes, the "back" part is conveyed with an actual back, hee hee.). One dude — Merle calls him "Neil" — is freaking out and wants to go home, but Merle is out for blood.

John Gatins
For the Writer of Flight, a Press Tour With Some Turbulence
John Gatins
"I love a movie where people are cheering for a drug dealer to deliver the goods!" John Gatins says, a broad, devilish smile on his face. Gatins is the screenwriter of Flight, and over breakfast at The Four Seasons, he's recounting the audience reaction to one late-movie scene where Denzel Washington's alcoholic airline pilot Whip gets so bombed before a crucial day of testimony that Whip's handlers resort to an unusual Plan B: They call in John Goodman's good-time drug dealer Harling Mays to get Whip back on his feet by supplying him with a few rails of cocaine. "I think everyone has a Harling Mays in their life. I would argue that I was probably some people’s Harling Mays as a younger man," says Gatins. "Not every drug dealer is what you think that person is. They can have kids and be great people."The 44-year-old Gatins,...

British rapper Plan B has warned politicians the UK faces a repeat of the riots which swept the country last year, unless they tackle the issues affecting young people.

In August, 2011, violent riots and looting brought London to a standstill, and spread to cities across the U.K., resulting in more than 3,000 arrests.

Plan B fears further rioting is inevitable

Plan B, who grew up in an impoverished area of the British capital, is convinced rising youth unemployment levels were the catalyst for the violence and he believes similar scenes are inevitable if the government does not address the cause of the unrest.

He tells BBC's Newsbeat, "I don't think the government is ever going to solve these problems. We will have more riots, it's going to get worse.

"We have had an issue with youth unemployment in this country for longer than 30 years. I don't think they have the...

A Candid Conversation with Elementary Star Aidan Quinn
Full Disclosure: If you had asked us at the start of the new television season if we’d still be watching Elementary four episodes in, we probably wouldn’t have answered in the affirmative. Yet here we are on November 8th, eagerly awaiting tonight’s episode thanks in no small part to the winning performances of Sherlock star Jonny Lee Miller and partners in crime-solving Jane Watson. (Lucy Liu) and Captain Gregson (Aadan Quinn). The latter of whom we recently had the pleasure of chatting during a stop in Toronto to talk about the hit CBS series, what appealed to him about playing Sherlock’s supportive Captain and the controversy that comes with starring in a hit television show.

CBS recently picked up Elementary for a complete twenty-two episode first season. What does that vote of confidence mean to you as an actor?

Aidan Quinn: It’s a great feeling.

Plan B (1997)
Indie Band Wins $32,000
Plan B (1997)
London — Indie pop quartet Alt-j has won Britain's prestigious Mercury Prize, beating more established acts to the 20,000 pound (roughly $32,000) prize at the Roundhouse in north London.

Formed of four Leeds University students who met in 2007, the band's sharp but spare vocals, genre-bending sound and occasionally bizarre, nasal lyrics propelled them onto the charts well before its members found fame.

Critical reception to their debut album, "An Awesome Wave," was extremely favorable and the band was heavily tipped to beat artists including rapper Plan B and singer-songwriter Richard Hawley, who were also among the prize's 12 finalists.

Music journalists have praised the group's idiosyncratic song-building skills (and few failed to dwell on their bizarre name – it's the command needed to get a triangle shape on a Mac).

Jenny Stevens of NME praised their "bookish sensibility and penchant for a sexual metaphor," while the Guardian's Paul Lester said their music was "rich and...
