Pretty Bad Overall - Sarah Michelle Gellar Can'ts Act
I know. How dare I? But really... Buffy would have been a much, much better show without Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Not only does Sarah Michelle Gellar confuse grimacing and real acting, but she never could pull off any of the physical requirements of her part. After seven years of on-the-job training, her ability to shoot a fight scene were just as bad as the first day.
Apparently, it was too much to ask to get her to learn to throw a punch. Of not to have that constipated expression she seems to think is what physical exertion looks like.
Of course, when you can't be bothered to do the easy part, what hope is there when Sarah Michelle was given anything resembling a dramatic part? More grimaces ensued.
Don't they audition actors before giving them the lead in TV shows? It's really too bad, because I like Vampire stories and Buffy had potential. Sadly, the now-defunct WB thought that hyping the show was enough and that actual acting from its lead (or ratings for that matter) was not necessary to masquerade Buffy as a hit.
But don't take my word for it. Look up the series' ratings and you'll see how few people actually watched this show.
