Larry Flynt - Die nackte Wahrheit

Woody Harrelson's Last Breath: From Box Office Flop to Streaming Sensation
Image
Woody Harrelson first rose to prominence with his portrayal of the affable bartender Woody Boyd on the acclaimed NBC sitcom Cheers (1985-1993), earning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series from five nominations. Later, his dramatic versatility shone through with more Emmy-nominated performances in HBO's Game Change (2012) and True Detective season 1 (2014).

On the big screen, Harrelson has been equally distinguished, earning three Academy Award nominations across various genres. He received a Best Actor nomination for his compelling performance in The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996), followed by two Best Supporting Actor nods for The Messenger (2009) and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017).

Harrelson's expansive filmography includes both cult classics and mainstream successes,...

The Cast of ‘Now You See Me 3’, Ranked by Net Worth
Image
The Now You See Me franchise has always been a dazzling mix of magicians, heists, and mind-blowing illusions. The first film introduced us to the Four Horsemen, master illusionists pulling off epic heists while staying one step ahead of the law. Though critics had mixed reviews, the franchise’s slick, stylish vibe and clever twists made it an instant hit.

The sequel kept the magic going, and now, the third installment, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, is officially in the works! Fans can expect to see familiar faces like Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Morgan Freeman return, with some exciting new additions. But before we get to the big screen magic, let’s talk about what really disappears: the money! Here’s a look at how the cast stacks up in terms of net worth. Spoiler alert! Some of them are seriously pulling in big bucks!

The Freewheelin’ Edward Norton on Timothée Chalamet, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Not Playing Bob Seger
Image
“A Complete Unknown” is a departure for Edward Norton, even though he’s quick to point out he’s played kind-hearted souls before — including, surprisingly, referencing Smoochy the Rhino from “Death to Smoochy,” an early, unexpected, comedic zag in this interview from Norton while discussing his buzzed-about performance as folk legend Pete Seeger.

And he’s right. He has played, as he puts it, “decent people” — he’s most definitely not always in that wiseacre vibe of Worm in “Rounders” or flirting with the emotional rage and misery of Monty in Spike Lee’s “25th Hour.” But his interpretation of Pete Seeger is unique in that he plays him with this true north earnestness … but with an undercut of passive aggressiveness that comes biting through when Timotheé Chalamet’s Bob Dylan does something Pete doesn’t see eye to eye with. This happens quite often during the events of “A Complete Unknown.

Fight Club Cast & Character Guide
Image
Fight Club is a cult classic movie with an unforgettable cast. Its plot revolves around an unnamed narrator on the verge of a breakdown, suffering from insomnia, and going through a series of unfortunate events. After befriending a puzzling soap salesman, the two invest their time in a shocking new form of therapy between men, which quickly spirals out of control.

Directed by David Fincher, one of the most talented names in the thriller genre, the movie perfectly adapts the book of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk, although the two Fight Clubs have completely different endings. Much of its success is thanks to its star-studded cast portraying the many distinct characters in its story.

Edward Norton As The Narrator Date Of Birth: August 18, 1969

Was Lyle Menendez Bald In Real Life? The Monsters Scene, Explained
Image
Ever since he debuted his "American Crime Story" in 2016 with the critically acclaimed miniseries "The People v. O.J. Simpson," Ryan Murphy has become television/streaming's preeminent purveyor of lurid, fact-based sagas. Murphy and his collaborators are masters of titillation and/or revulsion, but they've yet to come close to matching the whip-smart dialogue and nimble storytelling of "The People v. O.J. Simpson" writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. "The Assassination of Gianni Versace" and "Impeachment" were more facile and, in alarming respects, callous to the point of mean-spiritedness.

This quality was hugely amplified when Murphy took his true crime game to Netflix for "Dahmer: Monster -- The Jeffrey Dahmer Story." The 2022 10-part series was long on unpleasantness, gore, and outright cruelty, but disappointingly short on insight. It was a wallow. And I say this as someone fascinated by serial killers. As such, it'll be interesting to see if...

September marks Marcello Mastroianni’s centennial, and the Criterion Channel pays respect with a retrospective that puts the expected alongside some lesser-knowns: Monicelli’s The Organizer, Jacques Demy’s A Slightly Pregnant Man, and two by Ettore Scola. There’s also the welcome return of “Adventures In Moviegoing” with Rachel Kushner’s formidable selections, among them Fassbinder’s Mother Küsters Goes to Heaven, Pialat’s L’enfance nue, and Jean Eustache’s Le cochon. In the lead-up to His Three Daughters, a four-film Azazel Jacobs program arrives.

Theme-wise, a set of courtroom dramas runs from 12 Angry Men and Anatomy of a Murder to My Cousin Vinny and Philadelphia; a look at ’30s female screenwriters includes Fritz Lang’s You and Me, McCarey’s Make Way for Tomorrow, and Cukor’s What Price Hollywood? There’s also a giallo series if you want to watch an Argento movie and ask yourself,...

Janet Yang Re-Elected Motion Picture Academy President For Third Term
Image
In a election that was clearly less contentious than the current one for U.S. president, producer Janet Yang was re-elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the organization’s Board of Governors. This will be her third consecutive term and comes as no surprise since AMPAS presidents generally are re-elected each year of a possible four single terms as long as they have not been termed out on the Board itself.

Also elected to officer positions by the Board were first-timer Lesley Barber, Vice President; DeVon Franklin, Vice President; Donna Gigliotti, Vice President/Treasurer; Lynette Howell-Taylor, Vice President; and Howard A. Rodman, Vice President/Secretary.

Shel Bachrach, Leading Insurance Broker in Hollywood, Dies at 80
Image
Shel Bachrach, a top insurance broker in Hollywood whose behind-the-scenes work helped movies like Cliffhanger, The People vs. Larry Flynt and Ali get made, died Monday in Palm Springs, a publicist announced. He was 80.

Bachrach provided financial protection and mitigated risks associated with such potential problems as drug-related filming delays (think Courtney Love in The People vs. Larry Flynt), actors who pilot aircraft (Harrison Ford) and directors who could be sidelined by age issues (David Lean, for his last movie, A Passage to India) or medical issues (John Huston, who battled emphysema).

Bachrach arranged risk management on stunt-filled films — if a star is injured during production, a movie could grind to a halt — and wrote policies for magicians and “Big Cat” performers in Las Vegas and for game shows like The Price Is Right, where contestants can win great sums of money.

Born in Detroit on April 7, 1944, Sheldon Jay Bachrach...

‘Amadeus’ turned 40 and got a great gift from the Oscars: A 4K digital restoration
Image
Milos Forman’s multi-Oscar-winning epic “Amadeus” has received a major 40th anniversary present thanks to the Academy Film Archive: a 4k digital restoration which will be unveiled May 31st at the Academy Museum. There’s major anticipation for this new restoration; the event is sold out with stand-by tickets available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The restoration by the archive and the Saul Zaentz Co. with funding provided by Teatro Della Pace Film marks the first time the original theatrical release has been available in over two decades.

“Amadeus,” produced by Saul Zaentz and adapted by Peter Shaffer from his Tony Award-winning Broadway play, revolves around the rivalry in last half of the 18th century Vienna between the mediocre court composer Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham) and his rival, the brilliant young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce). Shot on location in Prague, the film was a homecoming for Forman who...

Woody Harrelson's New Movie Perfectly Flips His Role In Controversial Quentin Tarantino Story
Image
Woody Harrelson's new thriller "Lips Like Sugar" flips his role in "Natural Born Killers." Harrelson plays a homicide detective alongside Owen Wilson in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics setting. The film tackles a potential serial killer case and involves Juliette Lewis in a different role from "Natural Born Killers."

Woody Harrelson is starring in a new thriller movie, and this project is perfectly flipping his role in one of the most controversial Quentin Tarantino stories. Woody Harrelson is one of the most respected actors of his generation, having shown his acting range in a variety of movies and TV shows. Harrelson made his big screen debut as an extra in 1978’s Harper Valley PTA, but rose to fame with his role as Woody Boyd in the TV series Cheers. Harrelson’s first box-office hit was the 1992 sports comedy White Men Can’t Jump, after which he starred in all types of movies.

With ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ Martin Scorsese can break multiple Golden Globes records
Image
Since 2012, revered filmmaker Martin Scorsese has belonged to a select group of three-time Best Director Golden Globe winners that grew to include six members when Steven Spielberg took last year’s prize for “The Fabelmans.” Over a decade later, the ever-active octogenarian has a strong chance at rising above his fellow triple champs by achieving another directing victory for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” thus following Elia Kazan as the second quadruple honoree in this category’s 81-year history. Since this would be his 10th time competing here, he would also join Spielberg in the rare distinction of having double-digit directing mentions.

Scorsese earned his first Golden Globe Award in 2003 for “Gangs of New York” (on his sixth bid) and was then further lauded for “The Departed” (2007) and “Hugo” (2012). His remaining half dozen directing notices came for his work on “Raging Bull” (1981), “Goodfellas” (1991), “The Age of Innocence” (1994), “Casino” (1996), “The Aviator...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From Cheers
Image
It's been 41 years since "Cheers" premiered, and 30 years since it's ended. Although other popular sitcoms like "The Bill Cosby Show" and "Newhart" gave it a run for its money, it's clear by now that "Cheers" has most effectively withstood the test of the time. When the average person thinks of '90s sitcoms, they think of "Friends" or "Seinfeld," but when you ask them to name a sitcom from the '80s, "Cheers" is almost always the first to come to mind.

It helps that so much of the "Cheers" cast has continued to have a major presence in pop culture long after the finale, even if they haven't all returned to the sheer height of popularity they had back in the '80s and early '90s. Even many of the actors who have passed away in the years since, like Kirstie Alley who died of stage four colon...

Janet Yang Re-Elected as Film Academy President
Image
Janet Yang has been re-elected as president of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Her second-term re-election was made by the Academy’s board of governors who additionally elected a number of officer positions for 2023-2024.

Yang is an Emmy-winning producer with credits on projects including “The Joy Luck Club,” “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” “Zero Effect,” “High Crimes,” “Dark Matter,” “Shanghai Calling” and “Over the Moon.” She climbed to her success in Hollywood after working under Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy who helped show her the ropes at Amblin.

“I’ve felt like an outsider many times throughout my life,” Yang said this year at the Oscars. “It’s wonderful to have a sense of belonging, and terrible not to … If I can help open the door for other women and people of color, I’m thrilled.

Janet Yang Reelected President of Motion Picture Academy
Janet Yang
Janet Yang has been elected to her second term as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, AMPAS announced Tuesday. Yang was chosen by the Academy’s 55-member Board of Governors at the first meeting of the 2023-2024 board, which was elected in June.

Yang is the fourth woman to serve as Academy president, and the first Asian-American. She is a member of the Academy’s Producers Branch, with a filmography that includes “The Joy Luck Club,” “The People vs. Larry Flynt” and the animated feature “Over the Moon.”

Yang is a one of three Governors-at-Large. Where most of the AMPAS governors are elected by specific branches, the at-large positions are nominated by the Academy president and elected by the board. She was first nominated for the board by then-president John Bailey in 2019 and nominated again by David Rubin in 2022, putting her in the second year of her second three-year term.

Janet Yang Re-Elected Film Academy’s President, Other Officer Positions Filled by Board
Image
Janet Yang, the film producer who a year ago was elected the 36th president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, was re-elected to that post on Tuesday during the first meeting of the Academy’s recently reconstituted board of governors, the Academy has announced.

Yang, 67, the Queens-born daughter of Chinese immigrants, broke into showbiz by connecting key players in the Chinese and Hollywood film industries to make possible films like Empire of the Sun before becoming a producer of films including The Joy Luck Club and The People vs. Larry Flynt. She is just the fourth female (after Bette Davis, Fay Kanin and Cheryl Boone Isaacs) and second person of color (after Boone Isaacs) ever tapped for the board’s top job.

Janet Yang Re-elected Motion Picture Academy President
Image
Janet Yang has been re-elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the organization’s Board of Governors.

The producer will be serving her second consecutive one-year term and was widely expected to take the reins once again. Presidents can serve up to four consecutive one-year terms as long as they are eligible, and Yang is only in her fifth year as a Governor-at-Large and thus conceivably could run again in 2024 and 2025. AMPAS presidents almost always are re-elected without much controversy.

Board officers also were elected, and it will be a group with a lot of new faces compared to 2022. The lineup is as follows:

Bonnie Arnold, Vice President

Howard Berger, Vice President

Brooke Breton, Vice President

Tom Dufffield, Vice President/Treasurer

DeVon Franklin, Vice President

Beanie Feldstein in American Crime Story (2016)
‘People vs. Larry Flynt’ Writer Scott Alexander Explains Why This Strike Is Different: ‘There’s a Sense of Righteousness’ (Video)
Beanie Feldstein in American Crime Story (2016)
“American Crime Story” writer/producer Scott Alexander remembers the WGA strikes of 1988 and 2007 and told TheWrap that this time there’s “a sense of righteousness” as writers and actors hold out for issues like higher residuals from streaming.

“There’s a positive attitude this time and a sense of righteousness. And a sense that there’s something bigger happening here in society that wasn’t there in the previous strikes,”Alexander told TheWrap on Monday while picketing at CBS Television City in Los Angeles.

“There’s a sense of just completely not being able to back down on this one. And it’s very clear-cut. In ’88, it wasn’t really clear what we were striking for… This time, everyone knows what they’re fighting for. They’re fighting [to end] s—ty practices and streaming, and mini-rooms, and short orders and non-existent residuals,” he added.

Alexander, who also penned features “The People vs. Larry Flynt,...

“Champions” Movie Review: The Easy Way
Image
Champions is a comedy movie directed by Bobby Farrelly starring Woody Harrelson and Ernie Hudson.

Remake of the Spanish film Campeones. No one dared to trash the Spanish film, but this one has been given its due by specialized critics.

Sometimes you have to judge cinema as cinema, and sometimes even film critics get it right.

Sentimental and trite.

Movie Review

Is it better than the Spanish version? Of course, Hollywood exhibits all its industry muscle, and what was a European production in the Hispanic film – with its own merit but lacking on a production level, here the industry exhibits its potential and gives a quick polish to everything: the editing, the sound, and puts a star, Woody Harrelson, in the spotlight.

It takes everything from the Spanish film, except for the great campaign that was made to judge a film not by its cinematic content but by its more social side.

Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey to Play Themselves in Apple TV+ Comedy
Image
Apple’s bringing it all the way back to 2014. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, the actors who led the first season of “True Detective,” are reuniting for a very different project — an Apple TV+ comedy series where the two Texan stars play fictionalized versions of themselves.

According to Apple’s logline, the untitled show focuses on McConaughey and Harrelson as they bring their combined families together to live under the same Texas ranch, testing the actors’ friendship in the process.

David West Read, whose other Apple TV+ series “The Big Door Prize” recently made its world premiere as part of the SXSW TV selection ahead of its March 29 streaming debut, created the untitled show; aside from “The Big Door Prize,” Read’s also known for writing the book to Broadway musical “& Juliet” and for his work on “Schitt’s Creek,” for which he won an Emmy.

Harrelson and McConaughey are longtime...

‘Awards Chatter’ Podcast: Janet Yang (Film Academy President)
Image
The guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which is posting the day before the 95th Oscars takes place in Hollywood and airs on ABC, is Janet Yang, the first-term president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Yang, the Queens-born daughter of Chinese immigrants, is only the 36th person — and just the fourth female, second person of color and first person of Asian descent — to lead Hollywood’s most powerful organization, following in the footsteps of luminaries like Douglas Fairbanks, Frank Capra, Bette Davis, George Stevens, Gregory Peck, Robert Wise and Karl Malden.

Over the course of a conversation at the Loews Hollywood Hotel, where Yang has been staying this week in order to oversee preparations for the Oscars at the adjacent Dolby Theatre, the 66-year-old reflected on a life and career that has defied the odds at every turn.

Yang speaks...

Edward Norton's Best Movies, Ranked
Image
Edward Norton has built an almost 30-year filmography full of great and creative films, and his best movies are his signature intense dramas. The actor's first movie was Primal Fear, in which he had a supporting role, and it immediately showcased him as a major awards contender. Since the thrilling legal drama, Norton has starred in one hard-hitting movie after another, best known for classics such as Fight Club, American History X, and the record-breaking Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. The actor is known to play intelligent but troubled characters, and his roles oddly tend to have dual personalities.

Once actors have reached the status and fame where they're leads, they rarely take any other role, but that isn't the case with Norton, who has seemingly actively taken supporting roles because they were interesting characters. And he throws himself into movies with ensemble casts too, such as the Wes Anderson-directed The French Dispatch,...

‘Project Artemis’: Woody Harrelson Rounds Out Cast Of Greg Berlanti-Directed Space Race Pic For Apple
Image
Exclusive: The caliber of the ensemble for Apple Original Films’ Project Artemis continued to rise on Tuesday, with the addition of three-time Academy Award nominee Woody Harrelson (Triangle of Sadness).

Plot details for the film, set against the space race of the 1960s, remain under wraps — and it’s not yet clear who Harrelson will be playing. But the in-demand actor rounds out a cast led by Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum. Others set, as previously announced, include Jim Rash, Ray Romano, Anna Garcia, Donald Elise Watkins, Noah Robbins, Colin Woodell, Nick Dillenburg and Christian Zuber.

Directing the pic written by Rose Gilroy is TV powerhouse Greg Berlanti, who yesterday signed an enormous new four-year exclusive overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group. Johansson is producing alongside Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn for These Pictures, as well as Sarah Schechter for Berlanti Productions, with Robert Dohrmann serving as exec producer.

Courtney Love says she lost 'Fight Club' role after rejecting Brad Pitt's Kurt Cobain movie
Image
Singer and actress Courtney Love joined Marc Maron for an interview on the “Wtf” podcast and said that David Fincher hired her to star opposite Brad Pitt and Edward Norton in 1999’s ‘Fight Club’.

Love said she had won the part of Marla Singer, eventually played by Helena Bonham Carter in the film, reports ‘Variety’.

The “Hole” frontwoman was fresh off strong reviews for ‘The People vs. Larry Flynt’ at the time. According to Love, she got fired from ‘Fight Club’ after rejecting Brad Pitt’s pitch for a Kurt Cobain movie.

Love said she “went nuclear” on Pitt after he and director Gus Van Sant approached her about making a Kurt Cobain movie.

Love and Cobain married in 1992 and they were together until his death in 1994 at age 27.

Courtney Love Says She Was Fired From Fight Club Because She Didn't Want Brad Pitt Playing Kurt Cobain
Image
Those living in Los Angeles in 1990 may remember hearing Courtney Love's voice blasting from radios tuned to Kroq as she belted aggressive punk-ish lyrics as the frontwoman of her band Hole. Legendary local DJ Rodney Bingenheimer was reportedly hounded by a young Love at the restaurant where he had breakfast, and she eventually convinced him to air Hole's debut single, a song with a decidedly inappropriate title. Hole's first record "Pretty on the Inside" was released in 1991, and Love became a celebrity in the growing grunge scene. In 1992, Love married superstar Kurt Cobain, frontman of Nirvana, and the couple instantly became icons of anti-commercial 1990s disaffected youth. Their celebrity, however, paired with unfair public images and a tragic addiction to heroin, affected the couple's mental health, and Cobain died by suicide in 1994.

Love continued to work, however. Hole's 1995 record "Live Through This" was widely acclaimed, and the rocker moved...

15 Best Edward Norton Movies, According To Letterboxd
Image
Edward Norton has returned to the big screen with a surprisingly comedic role in Knives Out 2, but the actor has a spectacular and varied film resume.

Norton generally plays sadistic criminals who are capable of terrible things, but like his character in Glass Onion demonstrates, he doesn't always stick to the same type of role or movie. Between troubled drug dealers, grieving neo-Nazis, and leaders of terrorist organizations, nobody plays three-dimensional characters better than norton.

Update: 2022/12/10 20:19 Est By Stephen Barker

With Glass Onion recently debuting, it has now clear that Edward Norton has one of the biggest roles in the new murder mystery flick. The actor plays tech billionaire Miles Bron, and the character reminds viewers of how funny the actor can be. It's also reminiscent of other Norton characters, whether it's in other murder mystery movies or comedies full of deadpan humor. Following the success of Glass Onion,...

‘Dalíland’ Review: Ben Kingsley Stars (With an Assist by Ezra Miller) in Mary Harron’s Sly Biopic About the Aging and Embattled Salvador Dalí
Image
There’s a genre I like so much I can never get enough of it — I call it the Biopic About Someone You Wouldn’t Make a Biopic About. The form came into existence, in a certain way, with “Sid and Nancy,” but it was all but patented by the screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who planted it on the map, in 1994, with “Ed Wood” (still the “Citizen Kane” of the genre), then went on to script “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” “Man on the Moon” (about Andy Kaufman), “Big Eyes”, and “Dolemite Is My Name” (about the fluky hustler-comedian Ray Moore). There have been films in the genre from other quarters, like Paul Schrader’s superb “Auto Focus” (about the TV star Bob Crane and his video-fetish sex life), going right up through the recent Toronto Film Festival sensation “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.”

But there’s one...

Suncoast: Everything We Know So Far About The Laura Linney, Woody Harrelson Drama
Image
Laura Chinn has written for projects like "The Mick," "Children's Hospital," and "Florida Girls," which she created and starred in. She's also acted in projects like "Happy Endings," and "Warrior." If that wasn't enough, Chinn had a script selected for 2020's The Black List, a grouping of all the unproduced scripts of note from that year. That script is set to become the upcoming drama film "Suncoast," which will serve as Chinn's directorial debut, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Production for the new film will begin in September through Searchlight Pictures, with a number of big-name actors signing on for roles, including Woody Harrelson and Laura Linney. Laura Chinn recently published her memoir entitled "Acne" through Hachette Books, which scored a review blurb from Tina Fey ("30 Rock") on the cover.

Here is everything we know so far about the film "Suncoast."

What We Think Suncoast Will Be About

Academy Award nominees Laura Linney and Woody Harrelson and rising actress Nico Parker, who appeared in the live-action remake of Dumbo, are set to star in Suncoast, a drama written and set to be directed by Laura Chinn, in what will be her directorial debut.

Searchlight has boarded the project, which made the 2020 Black List, with production scheduled to begin in September.

Jeremy Plager, Francesca Silvestri, Kevin Chinoy and Oly Obst are producing the feature.

Suncoast is inspired by Chinn’s own life experience from the early 2000s and follows a teenager (Parker) living with her strong-willed mother (Linney), who must take her brother to live at a specialized facility. There, she strikes up an unlikely friendship with an eccentric activist (Harrelson) amid protests surrounding controversial medical cases.

The project will be overseen by Searchlight senior vp production Taylor Friedman and manager of creative affairs Daniel Yu,...
