All the movies Netflix is releasing in June and July 2025Straw (June 6)

'This Is Kind of a Big Deal': Happy Gilmore Star Shares What the Netflix Sequel's Really About
Image
Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2 sees Adam Sandler's titular character return to the golf course, bringing his unusual brand of shenanigans while proving his game is still in full swing. Though the sequel has lots to live up to, another returning star believes Sandler and the cast have "outdone themselves" with the anticipated follow-up.

Speaking with People, Happy Gilmore star Christopher McDonald revealed he was "over the moon to be asked to be in" the upcoming sequel, where he'll reprise his role as star golfer and Happy's rival, Shooter McGavin. However, he played it coy when quizzed about story details, claiming, “I signed an NDA. This is kind of a big deal."

McDonald considers himself an "ambassador" for the Happy Gilmore franchise, believing the sequel will live up to the charm of the original, partly because of the "heart" Sandler and his character show. The film is "about family...

Why Ben Stiller Doesn't Act In Severance
Image
For as long as we've known him, Ben Stiller has been a writer and director as much as he's been an actor. The son of famed comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, Ben Stiller made a name for himself first by creating the short-lived but influential comedy series "The Ben Stiller Show," then by directing, co-writing and starring in the Gen-x film staple "Reality Bites."

From that point on, Stiller starred in everything from hit comedies like "Meet the Parents" to cult classics like "Zoolander" and emotionally grounded dramedies like "Brad's Status." Many of his most iconic roles were in his own movies, including the gloriously slow-witted Derek Zoolander and the prima donna action movie star Tugg Speedman in "Tropic Thunder."

Then, a one-two punch of underperforming films (first his self-serious "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and then the much anticipated but little seen "Zoolander 2") led Stiller to...

Happy Gilmore 2 will be tinged with sadness after latest news
Image
Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2 is going to be a hoot. Even the trailer brings some laughs, and we can assume, based on the previous Happy Gilmore, that the flick will be worth watching. It might not be Oscar material, but that isn't the point. The point is to have a fun time.

The sequel will, of course, star Sandler as Happy but also feature Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, and, of course, Christopher McDonald. There will also be a number of cameos from well-known celebrities and athletes.

One part of the original film that will not be part of the second is an alligator named Morris. Unfortunately, he passed away recently from old age at his gator farm home in Colorado. Based on his teeth and growth rate, he was presumed to be around 80 years old. But he wasn't just a one-film star.

Morris the...

Adam Sandler Mourns Death Of ‘Happy Gilmore’ Alligator Co-Star
Image
As the stars of Happy Gilmore reunite for a long overdue sequel, Adam Sandler is paying tribute to one original cast member.

The 2x Golden Globe nominee mourned the death of his alligator co-star Morris, who played the titular character’s nemesis in the 1996 golf comedy, on Wednesday with a sweet tribute to the reptilian actor on Instagram.

“Goodbye, Morris. We are all gonna miss you,” he captioned the post. “You could be hard on directors, make-up artists, costumers – really anyone with arms or legs – but I know you did it for the ultimate good of the film. The day you wouldn’t come out of your trailer unless we sent in 40 heads of lettuce taught me a powerful lesson: never compromise your art. I will never forget at craft service that time when we split the Three Musketeers bar and you let me have the bigger half. But that’s who you were.

Everything Coming to Hulu and Disney+ in June
Image
While the Max rebrand back to HBO Max has the streaming world in a tizzy, it’s worth remembering the significance of keeping diverse subscriptions. While “Hacks” and “The Last of Us” wrap up over on that side of your library, the Hulu and Disney bundle is essential for maximizing this summer’s offerings.

Disney+ continues to be the go-to streamer for family friendly viewing options; this month, they’ll add the official “Frozen” Broadway musical to that library, along with Marvel’s “Ironheart,” about Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) who was introduced in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Hulu has everything you need for an “Alien” movie marathon, all to gear up for FX’s “Alien: Earth” which premieres in August. You could also do a “Mamma Mia!” marathon or “Bachelor” binge — we’re not here to judge.

Top Pick: “The Bear” Season 4 (Available on Hulu)

Adam Sandler and Bad Bunny Hit the Green in New 'Happy Gilmore 2' Image
Image
Just over two months remain until Happy Gilmore returns to the green, only this time he'll have a new partner accompanying him. Entertainment Weekly just released a new image from the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2 as part of their Summer Preview event, and it not only highlights Adam Sandler's hockey player-turned-golfer in his Boston Bruins gear with a hockey stick in hand, but it also shows his loyal new caddy, Bad Bunny. The three-time Grammy winner is seen dressed up for the next iteration of the Tour Championship, watching intently as Happy shows off his technique. He'll be by the veteran golfer's side throughout the film as Happy looks to return to golf glory this summer.

Bad Bunny will have some big shoes to fill in Happy Gilmore 2. The first film saw the role of the titular golfer's caddy played by the homeless man Otto, who not only accompanied...

Adam Sandler Shares a Hilarious, Heartfelt Tribute After Death of Iconic Happy Gilmore Gator
Image
The 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore, starring Adam Sandler, is set to get a long-awaited sequel this summer, but just two months before the movie’s premiere, Sandler is saying goodbye to one of the original movie’s most pivotal characters. Sandler, who played the titular hockey player-turned-golfer Happy Gilmore in the film, took to X to mourn the death of Morris the alligator.

Morris famously played the alligator who bit off the hand of Happy Gilmore’s mentor, Chubbs, played by the late Carl Weathers. Morris was estimated to be 80 years old. Per Entertainment Weekly, the alligator’s death was announced on May 11 by the Colorado Gator Farm, where Morris was spending his retirement.

Goodbye, Morris. We are all gonna miss you. You could be hard on directors, make-up artists, costumers - really anyone with arms or legs - but I know you did it for the ultimate good of the film.

Adam Sandler Pays Tribute to 'Happy Gilmore' Star Morris the Alligator Following Death
Image
Adam Sandler paid a heartfelt tribute to one of his Happy Gilmore “costars” after the announcement of their death at the age of “well over 80 years old.” The reason for the vagueness of the age, is that the star in question was Morris the alligator, who appeared in the movie with Sandler as one of several TV and movie roles. The original news of the reptile’s death was revealed by Colorado Gator Farm owner Jay Young, who said in a Facebook video, “While we knew this was inevitable, we are very saddened by his passing to old age.”

Sandler was also saddened by the news, and took to his own social media account to share a lengthy post in memory of the alligator. Tinged with more than a little of Sandler's brand of humor, he wrote:

“Goodbye, Morris. We are all gonna miss you. You could be hard on directors,...

How Christopher McDonald Became ‘Happy Gilmore’s’ Straight Shooter
Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore - Ein Champ zum Verlieben (1996)
Happy Gilmore 2. (L to R) Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin and Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore in Happy Gilmore 2. Cr. Scott Yamano/Netflix © 2024. Nearly three decades after the original film came out, Happy Gilmore 2 will be released this summer as a streaming film on Netflix. Many of the original cast members are returning, including Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, Dennis Dugan, and Christopher McDonald. In the first film, McDonald’s Shooter McGavin character was the perfect foil for Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, and one would think we’ll see that dynamic continue in the new film. When McDonald recently appeared at Steel City Con, he told the story about how he was specifically recruited for the role. Morris The Alligator, Star of ‘Alligator’, Has Passed Away Peacefully in His Colorado Home
Image
Our hearts go out to the proprietors of the Colorado Gators Reptile Park in Colorado. We recently learned that the organization’s most senior resident, Morris (an alligator with a Hollywood resume that would make many blush), passed away on Sunday.

Morris is best known to horror fans for his epic turn in the 1980 creature feature Alligator. The camera-ready gator began a career in show business when he landed with the animal trainers at Brocketts Film Fauna in 1975. Morris proved a quick study and remained in their care, making somewhat regular feature film and television appearances until retiring at the Colorado Gators Reptile Park in 2006. Morris lived there until his recent passing.

It’s quite clear that the folks at the Colorado-based animal sanctuary loved him dearly. Proprietor Jay Young broke the news Monday via the organization’s Facebook page.

“Colorado Gators is sad to report the passing away of our oldest alligator,...

Morris the Movie Star: The Legendary Alligator from Horror Movie ‘Alligator’ Has Passed Away
Morris
The most famous movie alligator of all time has left us this week, with CBS News reporting that Morris, the 80+ year old star of 1980 horror film Alligator, has passed away.

Morris passed away at his longtime home, the Colorado Gator Farm. His exact age wasn’t known, but the farm estimates that he was somewhere between 80 and 100 years old.

Morris came to Hollywood in 1975 and appeared in many movies and shows through to 2006, when he retired from showbusiness and settled down at the Colorado Gator Farm.

In addition to playing the killer alligator in both Alligator and 1991 sequel Alligator II: The Mutation, Morris also memorably appeared in Happy Gilmore, with his impressive resume also including Interview with the Vampire, Blues Brothers 2000, Eraser and Dr. Doolittle 2.

“He started acting strange a week ago. He wasn’t looking at us and wasn’t taking food,” the Gator Farm’s Jay Young said...

Becky Lynch on Filming ‘Star Trek’, Meeting Adam Sandler On ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ and Feud With Lyra Valkyria: ‘It’s Insane How Much I’ve Been Wronged’
Image
The Man has (finally) come back around to WWE. After stepping away from wrestling for nearly a year, Becky Lynch made her triumphant return at WrestleMania, where she teamed with fellow Irishwoman and protégé, Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria, to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.

“I took what I thought was going to be three months off during the summer, when my contract came up,” Lych says of her absence. “I was like, ‘Okay, seems like a good time to take a little break, get some stuff done.’ Then other things came up – I was filming ‘Star Trek,’ and then ‘Happy Gilmore.’ There was talk [of a return] around Rumble time, but then at the last minute, I got a skin condition. The next big event was WrestleMania, so it seemed to make sense, especially if I could take Bayley out of the mix and ruin her dreams. It felt doubly brilliant.

This Is Why Ben Stiller’s ‘Happy Gilmore’ Character Never Got What Was Coming to Him
Image
One of the oddest things about the original Happy Gilmore is the fact that Ben Stiller’s villainous nursing home attendant, Hal L., faces zero repercussions for his crimes. We all cheered when a smarmy pro golfer was chased down and pulverized by a small army of violent fans, yet the guy who ran a literal sweatshop full of seniors was just allowed to continue his campaign of elder abuse?

As many fans are aware, the movie very nearly included a moment in which Happy informs Hal that his grandmother blew the whistle on his scam. In the deleted scene, Hal then tries to claim that Grandma Gilmore can’t be believed because she’s “in the advanced stages of senility.” Happy responds by throwing Hal L. out the window.

Why would the movie exclude such an important scene, which resolves a key plot point? Well, apparently the blame should be placed squarely on us,...

“She would have been in a much, much better shape”: Becky Lynch’s Surprise Return Is Linked to The Rock After He Didn’t Appear in WrestleMania 41

WrestleMania 41 action peaked when Becky Lynch, the former Women’s Champion and one of the most successful WWE superstars, joined forces with Lyra Valkyria to challenge Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez for the tag team title and win it.

However, the return of the Irish superstar wasn’t a plan in the making. For many WWE analysts, it was as surprising as the fans across the globe. To add to the list of those who expressed their astonishment over the unprecedented manner in which Becky returned to the squared ring is Vince Russo, who had an interesting take on why she returned at the grandest event in Vegas.

Vince Russo opined that The Rock was the reason behind Becky Lynch’s surprise return Becky Lynch making a highly anticipated return to WWE at WrestleMania 41. (Image Credit: WWE)

Netflix is bringing the heat this summer with more original movies
Image
Netflix will bring some major hits to us this summer with more original movies. Well, they hope they're hits. We'll just hope they're entertaining enough to give us another reason to stay inside and beat the heat. Now, where's that blender...

This summer promises to be a scorcher. You can thank Netflix for that. Oh, you thought I meant the weather. Nah, that's a topic for another time and place. I'm talking about the heat your favorite streaming service is bringing to your retro Nokia, your 87th-generation iPad, or your massive 105" mini-oled media altar.

However you watch, and whatever you watch, you'll want to catch these. You don't have to pay $30 for a couple of tickets and then another $40 for sodas and a large popcorn to be entertained. Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't go to the movies, despite what CEO Ted Sarandos says about movie theaters. All I'm saying is,...

Adam Sandler's Performance in Netflix's 'Jay Kelly' Is Already Getting Oscar Buzz
Image
Happy Gilmore star Adam Sandler could be all set for Oscar glory with his new movie. Sadly, no, it’s not Happy Gilmore 2. The beloved actor and comedian will reunite with Netflix once again for an upcoming coming-of-age comedy-drama, with a source who's seen the movie revealing that, not only will the streamer campaign hard for Sandler to be considered by the Academy, but that could even win a coveted golden statue.

Titled Jay Kelly, the movie is being helmed by Academy Award nominee and Marriage Story director Noah Baumbach, and could be described as a coming-of-middle-age comedy as it follows friends, played by Sandler and George Clooney, who rediscover their youthful spirit during a chaotic reunion.

Now, buzz from an early screening (via World of Reel) has emerged, with “industry sources, journalists, and test reports” stating that Sandler steals the show in Jay Kelly, with the Billy Madison star delivering a career-best performance.

Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore Returning to Movie Theaters This April
Image
Fans of golf and/or hockey and/or Adam Sandler should mark their calendars for April 27th and 30th, as Universal Pictures has announced plans to re-release the seminal 1996 film Happy Gilmore in theaters.

Happy Gilmore was Sandler’s second major starring role following 1995’s Billy Madison. The movie featured the SNL alum as a hotheaded aspiring hockey player who discovers a more lucrative use for his killer slapshot — professional golf — just when he’s in desperate need of cash to save his grandmother’s house.

Directed by Dennis Dugan, Happy Gilmore also stars Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and the late great Carl Weathers. Ben Stiller makes an uncredited appearance as a nursing home orderly who abuses Happy’s grandma (Frances Bay).

Thanks to Universal, tickets are on sale now for the late April screenings on Fandango. While this re-release is happening a year before the movie’s official 30th anniversary,...

Happy Gilmore Re-Release Set for April 27 and 30
Image
Universal Pictures has announced the nationwide theatrical re-release of Happy Gilmore, the beloved 1996 sports comedy starring Adam Sandler as a failed hockey player turned golf sensation. Audiences nationwide can experience this comedy classic on the big screen during special screenings on April 27 and April 30.

In Happy Gilmore, Sandler stars as the titular character, an aspiring hockey player with a powerful slapshot who can neither skate nor control his volatile temper. When the Internal Revenue Service repossesses his grandmother’s house, Happy resolves to earn enough money to settle her debts and reclaim her home.

After discovering his golf swing can drive balls an extraordinary 400 feet, Happy quickly becomes an unlikely star on the PGA tour, despite his poor putting skills and frequent explosive outbursts that antagonize his more traditional competitors.

Originally released in February 1996, Happy Gilmore was created on a modest $12 million budget and earned more than $40 million during its initial theatrical run.

"You Can't Make It Without Chubbs": 'Happy Gilmore 2' Director on Honoring Carl Weathers in Star-Studded Sequel [Exclusive]
Image
In 1996, Adam Sandler changed the game — literally — with Happy Gilmore, a wild, foul-mouthed sports comedy about a failed hockey player who channels his rage into becoming an unlikely golf star. Armed with a slapshot swing and zero etiquette, Happy took on snobby country clubs, rival pros, and an alligator — and somehow made golf cool for a generation raised on slapstick and smack talk. The film became an instant cult classic, catapulting Sandler into leading man status and embedding lines like “The price is wrong, bitch” and “Just tap it in” into the comedy lexicon. Nearly 30 years later, Happy’s coming out of retirement. As part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we spoke with director Kyle Newacheck about Happy Gilmore 2, which tees off on Netflix July 25, 2025.

With Sandler back in the lead — and co-writing alongside longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy — the sequel isn’t a nostalgia trip or a cheap gimmick.

Why Adam Sandler Was Fired From SNL
Image
Throughout its 50-year run, "Saturday Night Live" has been the launching pad for some of history's most beloved comedic actors and actresses. Fans often debate which decade of "SNL" was the best, but an argument can be made that the 1990s featured some of the funniest sketches in the show's history, introducing audiences to up-and-comers who would go on to become some of the biggest names in comedy to this day. One of those young stars was none other than Adam Sandler.

After making his film debut in 1989, Adam Sandler performed stand-up comedy in clubs. At one of his performances in Los Angeles, "SNL" cast member Dennis Miller was in attendance. Impressed by Sandler's material, Miller recommended him to Lorne Michaels, which led to Sandler landing a job in the "SNL" writers' room in 1990 and eventually being promoted to featured player in the cast. Alongside his co-stars Chris Farley, Tim Meadows,...

Adam Sandler's 10-Year-Old Video Game Movie Gets a New Streaming Home
Image
Adam Sandler's 2015 sci-fi comedy movie Pixels will soon have a new streaming home. It will be available on Netflix starting April 11.

Pixels was directed by legendary filmmaker Chris Columbus. Sandler stars as Sam Brenner, a former arcade video game champion who unites with other players to save the world from an alien attack. When the aliens misinterpret video footage of classic video games as a declaration of war, they use the games as blueprints for their invasion, leading President Will Cooper (Kevin James) to recruit Sam to engage the aliens in an all-out battle where the fate of the planet is at stake.

Pixels was inspired by Patrick Jean's 2010 short film, and Jean served as an executive producer on the film. The story drew on the nostalgia factor of classic retro arcade games, with Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Space Invaders being licensed for the film. Pixels was released...

Adam Sandler’s 'Grown Ups' & 'Grown Ups 2' Streaming Free in April
Image
Adam Sandler has consistently delivered comedy gold over the years with fan-favorite hits like Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy, and the Hotel Transylvania series. However, every once in a while, a comedic genius delivers a big-screen dud — just ask Eddie Murphy. Grown Ups (2010) and its lazily titled sequel Grown Ups 2 (2013) are two such examples of Sandler sinkers, but that’s the beauty of streaming. Modern-day Sandler fans who haven't seen the movie yet can decide for themselves when both films become available to stream for absolutely free on Tubi beginning April Fools’ Day.

Grown Ups and its follow-up both took advantage of genius creative and marketing strategies as the films teamed up Sandler with some of Hollywood’s best and brightest comedic actors, including Kevin James, David Spade, and Chris Rock. Nevertheless, the original 2010 team-up was lambasted by the critics, and their reviews resulted in Grown Ups receiving an absurdly low 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Happy Gilmore’ Fans Are Bummed That the Sequel Won’t Be Playing in Theaters
Image
The recently-released teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 had everything a fan could want — from Happy’s trademark swing, to Shooter McGavin, to the return of Ben Stiller’s abusive caretaker character.

One thing it didn’t have that the original did, though? The promise that the movie would play in actual movie theaters. Per The Daily Mail, after the trailer dropped, a lot of fans took to social media to express their disappointment that the movie would, as the trailer noted, be available “only on Netflix.”

“Would pay to watch Happy Gilmore 2 in a packed theater. Happily,” a fan wrote. “The new Happy Gilmore movie releasing straight to Netflix and not in theaters rattles me to my core,” another posted. One user suggested that the film would make “Billions And Trillions Of Dollars!”

The sequel is going straight to streaming because Adam Sandler has a $250 million deal with Netflix,...

“I wanted to see how funny I could be”: Adam Sandler Bet a Lot on ‘Funny People’ That Made Him Turn Down Quentin Tarantino
Image
Adam Sandler may not be the first person who comes to mind when one thinks of a Quentin Tarantino character, but in some ways, the collaboration would have made so much sense. Both creators have a tendency to go off the usual path at times, and Sandler has proven his mettle as a serious actor in films like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems.

Sandler reportedly almost joined Tarantino’s revisionist historical black comedy Inglorious Basterds. The actor was reportedly excited to work on the film as the character is one of the most badass ones to come out of the modern classic. However, he had to let it go to work on his friend Judd Apatow’s Funny People.

Image
Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore was a cult-classic film as soon as it was released. Being heavily credited for kickstarting the actor’s career, the film became formative in the world of comedy. While the project was released almost three decades ago, its impact has left it a timeless piece. So much so, that it is getting a sequel after so many years.

While the news of its sequel should be enough to make the upcoming film a hit, one can never be too careful about a film’s numbers. Since the central theme of the 1996 film was golf, what better way to gain viewership than by getting a golf icon to join its cast?

Paige Spiranac has been confirmed to have a surprise cameo in the film, and it could be excellent for the project’s numbers.
