Though the sequel has lots to live up to, another returning star believes Sandler and the cast have "outdone themselves" with the anticipated follow-up.

Speaking with People, Happy Gilmore star Christopher McDonald revealed he was "over the moon to be asked to be in" the upcoming sequel, where he'll reprise his role as star golfer and Happy's rival, Shooter McGavin. However, he played it coy when quizzed about story details, claiming, “I signed an NDA. This is kind of a big deal."

For as long as we've known him, Ben Stiller has been a writer and director as much as he's been an actor. The son of famed comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, Ben Stiller made a name for himself first by creating the short-lived but influential comedy series "The Ben Stiller Show," then by directing, co-writing and starring in the Gen-x film staple "Reality Bites."

Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2 is going to be a hoot. Even the trailer brings some laughs, and we can assume, based on the previous Happy Gilmore, that the flick will be worth watching. It might not be Oscar material, but that isn't the point. The point is to have a fun time.

The sequel will, of course, star Sandler as Happy but also feature Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, and, of course, Christopher McDonald. There will also be a number of cameos from well-known celebrities and athletes.

The 2x Golden Globe nominee mourned the death of his alligator co-star Morris, who played the titular character’s nemesis in the 1996 golf comedy, on Wednesday with a sweet tribute to the reptilian actor on Instagram.

“Goodbye, Morris. We are all gonna miss you,” he captioned the post. “You could be hard on directors, make-up artists, costumers – really anyone with arms or legs – but I know you did it for the ultimate good of the film. The day you wouldn’t come out of your trailer unless we sent in 40 heads of lettuce taught me a powerful lesson: never compromise your art. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew star Ryan Kiera Armstrong has been cast to star alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar in the upcoming revival of the iconic series, which has a pilot order at Hulu. Task, a crime drama coming to HBO and Max this fall, got its first teaser trailer, set to the wailing sounds of Guns 'n' Roses' "Patience.

The 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore, starring Adam Sandler, is set to get a long-awaited sequel this summer, but just two months before the movie’s premiere, Sandler is saying goodbye to one of the original movie’s most pivotal characters. Sandler, who played the titular hockey player-turned-golfer Happy Gilmore in the film, took to X to mourn the death of Morris the alligator.

Morris famously played the alligator who bit off the hand of Happy Gilmore’s mentor, Chubbs, played by the late Carl Weathers. Morris was estimated to be 80 years old. Per Entertainment Weekly, the alligator’s death was announced on May 11 by the Colorado Gator Farm, where Morris was spending his retirement.

Morris, a famous alligator known for his appearances in movies and TV shows, most notably the 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore, has died at around 80 years old at the Colorado Gator Farm.

Adam Sandler, star of Happy Gilmore, posted a tribute to Morris in an X post on Wednesday, recalling the reptile’s diva-like behavior on set.

Adam Sandler paid a heartfelt tribute to one of his Happy Gilmore “costars” after the announcement of their death at the age of “well over 80 years old.” The reason for the vagueness of the age, is that the star in question was Morris the alligator, who appeared in the movie with Sandler as one of several TV and movie roles. The original news of the reptile’s death was revealed by Colorado Gator Farm owner Jay Young, who said in a Facebook video, “While we knew this was inevitable, we are very saddened by his passing to old age.”

Sandler was also saddened by the news, and took to his own social media account to share a lengthy post in memory of the alligator. Tinged with more than a little of Sandler's brand of humor, he wrote:

Our hearts go out to the proprietors of the Colorado Gators Reptile Park in Colorado. We recently learned that the organization’s most senior resident, Morris (an alligator with a Hollywood resume that would make many blush), passed away on Sunday.

Morris is best known to horror fans for his epic turn in the 1980 creature feature Alligator. The camera-ready gator began a career in show business when he landed with the animal trainers at Brocketts Film Fauna in 1975. Morris proved a quick study and remained in their care, making somewhat regular feature film and television appearances until retiring at the Colorado Gators Reptile Park in 2006. Morris lived there until his recent passing.

It’s quite clear that the folks at the Colorado-based animal sanctuary loved him dearly. Proprietor Jay Young broke the news Monday via the organization’s Facebook page.

The most famous movie alligator of all time has left us this week, with CBS News reporting that Morris, the 80+ year old star of 1980 horror film Alligator, has passed away.

Morris passed away at his longtime home, the Colorado Gator Farm. His exact age wasn’t known, but the farm estimates that he was somewhere between 80 and 100 years old.

Morris came to Hollywood in 1975 and appeared in many movies and shows through to 2006, when he retired from showbusiness and settled down at the Colorado Gator Farm.

In addition to playing the killer alligator in both Alligator and 1991 sequel Alligator II: The Mutation, Morris also memorably appeared in Happy Gilmore, with his impressive resume also including Interview with the Vampire, Blues Brothers 2000, Eraser and Dr. Doolittle 2.

Netflix is doubling down on Adam Sandler movies in 2025. Roughly four months after Happy Gilmore 2 drops onto the streamer, fans of the comedic actor will be able to watch the comedy-drama Jay Kelly, in which Sandler stars alongside George Clooney.

Per Deadline, Netflix has announced the release dates for Jay Kelly. The coming-of-age comedy-drama by writer-director Noah Baumbach will have a limited run in theaters beginning Nov. 14, 2025, before being added to the streaming service a couple of weeks later on Dec. 5, 2025. Plot details remain largely under wraps for Jay Kelly, with the logline merely stating, "Everybody knows Jay Kelly, but Jay Kelly doesn't know himself." Happy Gilmore star Adam Sandler could be all set for Oscar glory with his new movie. Sadly, no, it’s not Happy Gilmore 2. The beloved actor and comedian will reunite with Netflix once again for an upcoming coming-of-age comedy-drama, with a source who's seen the movie revealing that, not only will the streamer campaign hard for Sandler to be considered by the Academy, but that could even win a coveted golden statue.

Titled Jay Kelly, the movie is being helmed by Academy Award nominee and Marriage Story director Noah Baumbach, and could be described as a coming-of-middle-age comedy as it follows friends, played by Sandler and George Clooney, who rediscover their youthful spirit during a chaotic reunion.

Now, buzz from an early screening (via World of Reel) has emerged, with “industry sources, journalists, and test reports” stating that Sandler steals the show in Jay Kelly, with the Billy Madison star delivering a career-best performance.

Fans of golf and/or hockey and/or Adam Sandler should mark their calendars for April 27th and 30th, as Universal Pictures has announced plans to re-release the seminal 1996 film Happy Gilmore in theaters.

Happy Gilmore was Sandler’s second major starring role following 1995’s Billy Madison. The movie featured the SNL alum as a hotheaded aspiring hockey player who discovers a more lucrative use for his killer slapshot — professional golf — just when he’s in desperate need of cash to save his grandmother’s house.

Universal Pictures has announced the nationwide theatrical re-release of Happy Gilmore, the beloved 1996 sports comedy starring Adam Sandler as a failed hockey player turned golf sensation. Audiences nationwide can experience this comedy classic on the big screen during special screenings on April 27 and April 30.

In Happy Gilmore, Sandler stars as the titular character, an aspiring hockey player with a powerful slapshot who can neither skate nor control his volatile temper. When the Internal Revenue Service repossesses his grandmother’s house, Happy resolves to earn enough money to settle her debts and reclaim her home.

After discovering his golf swing can drive balls an extraordinary 400 feet, Happy quickly becomes an unlikely star on the PGA tour, despite his poor putting skills and frequent explosive outbursts that antagonize his more traditional competitors.

Originally released in February 1996, Happy Gilmore was created on a modest $12 million budget and earned more than $40 million during its initial theatrical run.

A Happy Gilmore sequel is coming thanks to Netflix, Adam Sandler and others. Sandler posted a teaser of the film on Christmas.

The actor, who will reprise his role as the titular former hockey player-turned-golfer, also has hinted at several special guest stars who may appear in the sequel film. Christopher McDonald, who played antagonist Shooter McGavin in the 1996 original film, first teased word of a sequel. McDonald mentioned to Drew Barrymore and on the radio that Sandler had showed him an early script for the new film.
