Lootere

Lootere is one of the best movies of 1993 after blockbusters like Khalnayak, Darr, Baazigar, Damini and Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke.

The movie is deftly handled by debutant director Dharmesh Darshan. It tells the story of a cop Karan (Sunny Deol) and his lady love Anjali (Juhi Chawla) whom he tries to save against all odds. The climax of the movie centers around how the hero saves his girl and beats the baddies black and blue including the central villain Changez Lala (Anupam Kher) to death.

The story is well told but the action scenes must be applauded. The credit for this of course goes to Sunny Deol, the one with 'dai kilo ka haath'. He was brilliant throughout the rest of the movie. Juhi Chawla sheds her girl-next-door image with Lootere and transforms into Bollywood sex siren with 'Main Teri Rani Tu Raja Mera' song. Chunkey Pandey gets his comic timing and does it pretty well. Naseeruddin Shah is competitive enough. Anupam Kher does his oft-repeating role of a bad guy again but appears menacing as ever. The rest of the cast are okay.

The songs in the film are pleasing to the ears. The title track is the one to die for. 'Main Teri Rani Tu Raja Mera', 'Ae Sawan Baras Zara', and 'Mujhe Le Chal Mandir' are also worth listening to.

Overall, a good time-pass flick. You can watch it with your family and enjoy the action moments. Go for it!

This movie is worth watching for Sunny Deol's fans Story is about a cop who is given the task of protecting a witness against the city don but soon falls in love with her. It also focuses on the underworld scene in Bombay and the police trying to thwart the same.

The good - the concept, acting on the part of Sunny Deol, Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher, the action scenes, some dialogs, few songs, the locales of the movie.

The bad - some foul language,some unnecessary semiclad females, some overacting on the part of Chunky Pandey, who tries to be an aggressive and funny young man but does it too much.

The movie has nothing too special, but like I said before....it's a treat for Sunny fans

Entertaining action thriller of 93. Changez Lala declares himself the ruling king of the underworld. He believes to be above law. Two police officers, Karan and Ali are on a hunt to arrest Lala and to bring him down before law.

In past when a police officer arrests him for his criminal deeds, he gets killed. A young bar dancer Anjali is a witness to the cold-blooded murder of the inspector. Anjali is approached by Karan and Ali to give her statement in court against Lala. After the initial refusal, Anjali agrees to get Lala punished by the court. Karan hides Anjali in a place far away from the city for 24 days before the court hearing. Her life is precious as she is the only one who can get Lala arrested. The protector now becomes a lover. Anjali acknowledges her love for Karan as he promises to protect her for the rest of her life. Karan and Anjali are about to marry exactly the day before the court proceedings when they are traced by Lala's goons. Anjali is killed and Karan is wounded by Lala's men. Injured Karan now swears revenge against Lala. Their court acquits Lala of criminal charges due to a lack of any evidence. Enraged Karan hits Lala outside the court. As a result court passes an order Karan and gets him transferred to some other place. Meanwhile, he comes to know his friend Ali has resigned from the police due to the court's injustice. Karan assures Ali that they both will punish Lala but within the ambit of the law. One day Karan spots Anjali, near a temple but Anjali intentionally avoids him and runs away with a man named Sikandar. Sikandar the most powerful henchman of Changez Lala. Sikander manages to pass a slip by entering Karan police station, saying that Anjali is not alive. This makes Karan firmly believe that Anjali is alive. He can trace the whereabouts of Lala where Anjali is locked in a house under the custody of Sikander. Sikander an alcoholic, brutal hitman of Lala also fells in love with Anjali. Now he wants to give up his criminal life and wants Anjali in his life. Later Karan can find Anjali and is taking her back but is confronted by Sikander. An after a scuffle between the two, Anjali confesses her true love for Karan in front of Sikander. Sikandar is heartbroken but shows his noble character in letting Anjali go with Karan and live happily. He repents for Anjali. Sikander is also loved by a modern girl Pooja, Changez Lala's sister, who is not able to see him falling for Anjali. When Pooja reveals the truth to Changez about Sikander's secret love for Anjali and his help in freeing Anjali, Lala beats Sikander and captures him in his cell. Sikandar now a changed person goes against Lala and vows to protect Anjali who is under threat of being killed. On the day of the court hearing when Karan and Ali are taking Anjali in their police van, they are blocked by Lala's men armed with guns, bombs and rocket launchers. In a fierce gunfight Karan and Ali gun down Lala's armed gang thus managing to take Anjali to court. Sikander also joins them and dies fighting, while trying to save Anjali's life. When Karan, Ali, Anjali reach court, Lala opens fire, injuring Ali and Karan. Ali and Karan are hit by bullets. Seeing Ali wounded and missing Anjali, Karan gets mad in anger. He chases Lala in the building, beats him voraciously, and throws him down from the building. Thus, Karan saves Anjali and congratulated by the police for making the city crime-free.

Lootere is an excellent (multistarrer) action movie with Sunny Deol as one of the three heroes, and that a cop too. The film is very well handled, and it has tons of mind-blowing action and thrills to keep you at the edge of your seat. Everyone does well in this film, and it is this aspect along with loads of action that makes this action flick worth watching. The story is interestingly told, and how the heroes save the day and vanquish the baddies is superbly done. Lootere is one of the best Desi action films of the early '90s. If you like to see nonstop action and thrills with lots of blood and gore, then watch this movie, especially for Sunny Deol. Enjoy!!
