The bored housewife embarking on an affair has always been a staple of erotic thrillers from Dtv classics such as Animal Instincts (1992) and Secret Games (1992) to more mainstream fare like Unfaithful (2002) – these sexually frustrated women, tired of being ignored by their workaholic husbands decide to go out and have some fun. Not merely being erotic films, the thriller element kicked in when the leading ladies found themselves out of their depth and their fooling around came back to bite them.

"Learning to love yourself," sang Whitney Houston memorably, "is the greatest love of all." And there can surely be no love greater than that discovered by Julia Roberts in the glamorous all-about-me travelogue Eat Pray Love (2010, Sony, 15).

Whipped meringue-like from Elizabeth Gilbert's onanistic bestseller, Ryan Murphy's cinematic colonic irrigation sends Roberts/Gilbert running away from the horrendous misery of her healthy, wealthy, middle-class American existence to spend a year looking for herself in Italy, India and Bali. "It's a universal story that can apply to anybody," says Murphy, who's clearly never met anyone with pressing personal, professional or (heaven forbid) financial demands.

But hey, which one of us can really say that we haven't spent a year eating pizza, embracing our "muffin tops" and having sex on a beach with Javier Bardem?...

You know, the great thing about the speed and breadth of the iPhone development ecosystem is being able to watch creators grow and refine their ideas. The gentlemen at Semi-Secret Games made one of my favorite iDevice titles in "Canabalt", where players ran and jumped through dynamically generated levels of a post-apocalyptic cityscape.

"Gravity Hook HD" is their latest release, which actually revisits an older game that they iterated on with the permission of original creator Arne Niklas Jansson. This new HD version shows off a much-improved look and feel, along with significant gameplay tweaks. You control a robot grappling his way ever upward through an ever-changing vertical environment. The grapple points are always in different locations and some of them are explosive.
