Die Abenteuer des Samurai

‘Rage of Honor’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Sho Kosugi, Lewis Van Bergen, Robin Evans, Gerry Gibson, Charles Lucia, Richard Wiley, Carlos Estrada, Ulises Dumont, Theodore McNabney, Alan Amiel, Armando Capo | Written by Robert Short, Wallace C. Bennett | Directed by Gordon Hessler

As a kid who grew up in the video store there were a few staples in my cinematic diet – none more so than the VHS releases from Imperial and Trans World Entertainment. From chop-socky flicks featuring an incredibly young Jackie Chan, to the ninja films of Sho Kosugi, I could not get enough of the Far East fight action. However the death of VHS also saw the death of those types of films being freely available here in the UK. Sure you can go down the import route (which I did for a number of those dear-to-my-heart action movies of the early 80s) but there’s nothing quite like walking into a store and picking...

47 Ronin Set Visit with Video Blog Recap and New Images
I feel like I've been transported back hundreds of years to medieval Japan. In front of me are over a hundred samurai warriors with each group in its own color (red, gold and purple) and we're standing inside an ancient warlord's castle. As I stand near a cherry blossom tree, I watch as the visiting Shogun Warrior dressed in Gold, with his own group of golden Samurai, inform the kneeling Samurai of Ako Castle they are now all Ronin. As he says this, I look at the 3D cameras and the large crew standing nearby, and can't believe everything is make believe. Let me back up a second. It's June 8, 2011 and I'm flying back to Los Angeles from London. Yesterday I spend most of the day on director Carl Rinsch's first feature, 47 Ronin, with a few other online reporters. While I knew going in the movie would be based...

The 'Toy Hunter' Takes On Comic-Con
Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, James Earl Jones, David Prowse, and Kenny Baker in Star Wars: Episode IV - Eine neue Hoffnung (1977)
Toy Hunter star Jordan Hembrough is gearing up for a third season of surprises next year on Travel Channel, and the overgrown child from Jersey was like a kid in a candy store at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego as he shot footage for a future episode and pounced on some of the coolest collectibles to hoard for himself. As ETonline's own resident overgrown child, I couldn't miss an opportunity to talk toys with Jordan -- and how "these kids these days" just don't understand…

Pics: 10 Cool Comic-Con Collectibles

David Weiner: I’m a huge fan of your show on Travel Channel, which you just finished your second season. I am your demographic … I’ve had some of the things that you drooled over, namely the Godzilla Shogun Warrior, I still have that; the Kenner Alien 18-inch action figure, that kind of stuff, so I just get very excited when you get excited over these...

‘Pacific Rim’ Conjures Spell of Giant Robot Nostalgia, Anime and Everything Awesome
If the phrase, “giant robots and monsters” alone doesn’t move you out of the house to see Guillermo del Toro’s latest film, Pacific Rim, then I’ll try to impart my enthusiasm to your decision.

The world is being threatened by insurmountable odds as monstrous Kaiju (Japanese for “strange beast”) are surfacing to Earth by way of a cosmic breach in the Pacific Ocean in southeast Asia. Understanding that this was a global threat, the world powers united and funded a program constructing giant robots called Jaegers, manned by humans to combat Kaijus. But with each monster that comes through, the Kaiju become more deadly and learns how to stop the Jaegers. America’s Jaeger, “Gipsy Danger” was manned by two brothers, Raleigh (Sons of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam) and Yancy Becket (Diego Klattenhoff) until one Kaiju nearly destroyed it; Raleigh is forced into hiding.

Time passes and...

'Pacific Rim' Trailer: Monsters, Robots & Jax, Oh My!
Could July 12th hurry up already? Ever since that footage at Comic-Con last year, we've been filled with the same kind of geeky giddiness for "Pacific Rim" that we can imagine Guillermo del Toro has been spreading all over edit bays while assembling what could very likely be an action masterpiece.

Warner Bros. has unleashed the full trailer for "Pac Rim" (hey, if that store in the mall can be abbreviated to "Pac Sun"...) today and it's filled with exactly what we wanted to see: big Shogun Warrior style robots piloted by a biker from Samcro and other soldiers fighting Godzilla style monsters. Charlie Hunnam, aka Jax Teller from "Sons of Anarchy" (and almost Thor in the Marvel movies) gets the exposition out of the way in a tasty voice over, setting up the premise for what this movie is all about: a future where humans operate huge robots to battle giant alien monsters.

My Chemical Romance's 'Na Na Na' Video: A Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet
We combed the hyperkinetic clip and turned up references from 'Easy Rider,' postmodern comic books, vintage Nintendo and more.

Early Thursday morning (October 14) — like, 12:01 a.m. early — My Chemical Romance's much-anticipated video for "Na Na Na" premiered on MTV.com. And we've basically spent every hour since re-watching it, combing through each frame and marveling at its breakneck pacing, sneering swagger and, well, hyperkinetic, hypercolor stylings.

Yes, "Na Na Na" is certainly a remarkable thing, an eye-catching, palpitation-inducing thrill ride (sort of like the album it's promoting) that's also incredibly clever, slightly goofy, and downright sly. See, much like other great videos of recent memory — like, say, Lady Gaga's "Telephone" — it's also chock-full of blink-and-you'll-miss-them nods to pop culture; too-clever odes to film, TV, toys and all...

Shogun Warrior ‘Gaiking’ Trailer
Director Matthew Gratzner and special-effects guru Jules Urbach have been in the throws of bringing to life a key member of the 1970s Japanese anime series Shogun Warriors for a new feature film.

Gratzner and Urbach unveiled an awesome-looking teaser trailer for Gaiking at the 2010 Tokyo Animation Fair in March. The scene is reminiscent of the recent War of the Worlds film -- with the massive robot Gaiking rising from beneath a city street.

Check out the trailer after the jump:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS6E-Nu3xsg

It looks like a pretty impressive ride, but the makers of Gaiking the movie just need someone to hop into the driver’s seat and thrash out a script.

Urbach has told The Hollywood Reporter that he and Gratzner just need a screenwriter -- so they can expand the existing treatment.
