No. The script was written by Michael Wolk. The 1980 novel of the same name, by author P.D. James, has nothing to do with the story in the movie.

Marie sleeps, but uses modern beds. She has superhuman strength, speed, and senses. She can venture onto church grounds, and can see her reflection in a mirror. She's repulsed by the smell of garlic, and bright electric lights hurt her sensitive eyes. Sunlight will kill her. She can be wounded by such weapons as a sharp knife or bullets from a gun, but wounds to her body will heal; she can only be killed by a shot to the brain, or if her spinal cord is disconnected from it (this is why she uses a shotgun to finish off prey). Her eyes can flash green, blue, red, and/or yellow when excited, aroused, or angry. She feeds at the neck of prey, but tears into it rather than just sinking her teeth in. Marie's victims become vampires unless killed right after she's done feeding.

It's interesting to note that the word 'vampire' is never spoken in the movie.

No. We often get the impression a vampire's body is cold....that suggests it would be difficult/impossible to incubate a human child. And blood appears to be the only substance a vampire can take into their bodies. Another liquid is required to make a baby.

Also vampires appear to reproduce via infection.

In mythology there is such a creature known as the dhampir, although normally the child of a male vampire and human woman, in recent fiction it can be the spawn of a female vampire and male human as well.

It's left up to the viewer to decide. It's clear they remain together as lovers, but it's not implied or shown if she changes him. She said something about feeling alive so maybe Marie could turn human.

In the US, only the R-Rated Version has been released so far. In Germany, the Uncensored Unrated Version was released on VHS immediately. The Unrated Version features some more nudity and two extended scenes containing violence.

Later, an Exlusive Extended Edition with 3 additional plot scenes was released on DVD in Germany. This version is based on the Unrated Version, as a result of that it's uncut as well and the longest version available worldwide.
