The Big Bang Theory season 10 episode 19 review: The Collaboration Fluctuation

10.19 The Collaboration Fluctuation

There are several reasons I don’t envy the writing team behind The Big Bang Theory, and one of them is because they’re the people who have to concoct brand new situations for their situational comedy every week, filling more than twenty-two half-hours every season. Now, you might sensibly argue that this is their job and they’re being paid handsomely for it, but I also find myself racking my brains for what I’d do with each of these characters and coming up with very little.

Very little is most likely just enough for...

The Big Bang Theory Season 10 Episode 19 Review: The Collaboration Fluctuation
Ok, raise your hand if The Turtles "Happy Together" is stuck in your head right now.

If you're not raising your hand after watching The Big Bang Theory Season 10 Episode 19, I'm going to assume you're lying.

We basically had two separate stories going, and for once, both were pretty equally funny.

Sheldon and Amy have never been the most conventional couple. How could they be? For one, that'd be crazy boring, but besides that, they're just completely the opposite of conventional.

We've seen them make strides in their relationship, but we've never really seen them work together professionally.

As a physicist, Sheldon has never thought too highly of Amy's biology background, and while they are both scientists, they've never really had a reason to collaborate before.

Until now.

It all started with Sheldon telling Amy about his work, redacting the classified portions with well timed honks of her car horn,...

The Blacklist Review: “The Deer Hunter” (Season 2, Episode13)
Although it would have been a brazen move to turn Liz into a member of The Blacklist by either sending her to jail or making her a fugitive, there was actually very little chance of that. So, why the drawn out ticking time clock of the unusually effective Detective Martin Wilcox? Drama! Forget the fact that she’s the center of the an international conspiracy, forget the fact that she’s basically seen her own life blow up in her face, and forget the fact nothing is certain in her life, including her past. We still have to threaten dear old Agent Keen with prison for a murder she didn’t commit. Oh yeah, and there’s a serial killer running around, too.

Leaving aside the relative low-risk chance that she’d go to prison, we’re reminded this week that Liz is a profiler, and like the Criminal Minds gang,...

Flying Burrito Brothers and Hot Tuna lawsuits raise question of protection for older recordings

Apple, Sony and Google have hit a bum note with their use of songs recorded prior to 1972, according to a flurry of lawsuits filed Thursday.

The trio of companies and others were hit with complaints in federal court in California by Zenbu Magazines LLC, which claims ownership rights to numerous songs by The Flying Burrito Brothers, New Riders of the Purple Sage and Hot Tuna.

After SiriusXM Success, The Turtles Take on Pandora in $25 Million Lawsuit (Exclusive)
About a Week (2011)
The radio dial — whether it's satellite like SiriusXM, web like Pandora or terrestrial like iHeartMedia — might never be the same. About a week ago, SiriusXM suffered a crushing courtroom loss to Flo & Eddie of The Turtles, the 1960s band which produced hit songs like "Happy Together," "It Ain't Me Babe" and "She'd Rather Be With Me." Flo & Eddie have been leading the charge against the uncompensated use of their music — and using state-based misappropriation, conversation and unfair competition claims because sound recordings only began falling under federal copyright protection in 1972. On

“Elenore,” the 1968 single from The Turtles, does not have a particularly hard edge to it. Because The Turtles were not known for their hard-edged rock. They were known for “Happy Together,” which you’ve all certainly heard because it’s been in roughly eight billion movies, TV shows, commercials and classic rock radio stations. But The Turtles were tired of their bubble-gum pop reputation and their hit single about blue skies and holdin’ your girl real tight. They wanted to branch out and stretch their...

‘Some Velvet Morning’ a well-acted two-hander built on a slippery foundation
Some Velvet Morning

Written and directed by Neil Labute

USA, 2013

The new film Some Velvet Morning, writer-director Neil Labute’s return to a cinematic appraisal of men and women in the modern age after nearly a decade away from the topic, is built on a deliberately slippery foundation. It is, in essence, a trick in the form of a one-location story with only two characters. Some films with twist endings demand to be watched multiple times; others, like this film, can only work one time, because a second or third or fourth viewing has no point. All Some Velvet Morning is about is its ending, in which Labute appears to pull the rug out from the audience not to make a larger point about sex, gender, and violence, but because…well, because he can.

Stanley Tucci plays Fred, who shows up unannounced with a few pieces of luggage at the...

The Turtles Lead Whopping $100 Million Class Action Against SiriusXM (Exclusive)
Helen Slater and Patrick Dempsey in Happy Together (1989)
Enjoy an old rock tune on satellite radio lately? A new proposed class action raises the theory that SiriusXM has infringed millions of these older recordings from thousands of artists. Damages are alleged to be at least $100 million, but for a company that last reported quarterly revenues of $940 million, the attorneys representing the plaintiff believe that damage figure to be on the conservative side. The lead plaintiffs in the case are Flo & Eddie of The Turtles, the iconic band whose hits include "Happy Together," "It Ain't Me Babe" and "She'd Rather Be With Me." The

Watch: New Trailer For The Great Gatsby
Here’s a new trailer for the newest adaptation of The Great Gatsby which in true Baz Luhrmann style looks absolutely stunning.

Despite the film was moved from its Christmas Day 2012 slot to May 10th, 2013, Warner Bros. has been doing out character posters as of late and now they have released a second trailer that opens with Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Gatsby telling Tobey Maguire‘s Nick Carraway his life story.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of contemporary music the ambitious Luhrmann uses in the actual film that brought the Jazz Age to the big screen as the second half of the trailer removes the hip-hop for a hard rock version of The Turtles‘ So Happy Together.

This adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel also stars Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher and Zero Dark Thirty co-stars Joel Edgerton and Jason Clarke.

Luhrmann wrote the script himself with Craig Pearce,...

Watch: Leonardo DiCaprio Stars In Ambitious & Grand New Trailer For 'The Great Gatsby'
Bumped off its Oscar-worthy December 2012 release date earlier this year, while things appeared rocky for Baz Luhrmann's almost ludicrously ambitious 3D adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" a few months ago ("3D? For drama??" the conventional thought went), with award season expectations lowered, a dazzling new trailer for the film has arrived focusing on the bold spectacle the picture is trying to capture, but also some of the adversaries within. And seeing as Ang Lee has pulled off 3D/drama so spectacularly with "Life Of Pi" maybe doubts aren't so high as they once were. Or maybe it's just that the jarring, modern pop song-flecked and almost cartoonish first trailer for "The Great Gatsby" didn't land well with online writers who were puzzled by its bold and unsubtle approach (has Luhrmann ever reigned it in though? See the modern cover of The Turtles' “So Happy Together" towards the end). But now that.

New Trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby
A new trailer for director Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby has been released online. The trailer opens with Leonardo DiCaprio's Gatsby telling Tobey Maguire's Nick Carraway his life story, complete with colorful flashbacks and fast cuts. We see much more of the individual performances in this trailer, and DiCaprio plays Gatsby with a slightly sinister quality that makes me curious to see more. The visuals again look spectacular; if there's one thing that can be gleaned from the two trailers we've seen thus far, it's that Luhrmann has brought the Jazz Age to the big screen in a way that we've never seen before. The second half of the trailer switches out the hip-hop for a hard rock version of The Turtles' "So Happy Together," and it'll be interesting to see what kind of contemporary music the ambitious filmmaker uses in the actual film. Hit...

Actress Lindsay Lohan won't be starring as porn star Linda Lovelace in "Inferno" after all.

The troubled starlet was to make her comeback playing the famous porn star in "Inferno," but director Matthew Wilder told E! Online he could no longer wait for Lohan as she continues her treatment at the Betty Ford clinic.

"We are withdrawing our offer from Lindsay Lohan," Wilder said. "We are currently in negotiations [with another actress] and working out the legalities of bringing her onboard.

10 Teen Movies you can’t buy on DVD
I’m a huge fan of 80’s teen movies and teen movies in general – yes I may not be the target demographic, but there’s something about the genre I love, and always will love. The advent of DVD means that there’s an abundance of teen movies now available to own, including some that should probably have never seen the light of day. But despite that, there’s still some teen movies that haven’t made the transition to the shiny disc format. So here’s a rundown of my Ten Teen Movies that haven’t made it to DVD – in fact I think some of these never even made it to retail VHS!!
