the movie should be watched by all the turkish foreigners that who are living in germany. I want to give some information about the movie but I think it will not be enough to express the movie. A strong character role was played by kemal sunal. the movie is about a person (focused on that persons behaviours and pschology) who is living in germany and is a turkish foreigner in germany. he is working and loving a german girl but he was not able to say this to the girl (because he was shy). pay attention on his warmness please while you watch the movie. later he say this to his friend and his friend found the girl beatiful.. and so on. he was also cleaning a theatre once a week and the director of the theatre was supporting him that he is a good actor.. later he take the suit about the police man on the theatre and deal with the people as a normal police... really I advise everyone to watch this movie.. enjoy your time.. because he is now dead (allah rahmet eylesin).. and I think that he should get an oscar for his leading role.. enjoy your time with this great actor...
The movie is set around the Berlin wall, which will fall a year later, separating East and West Germany. Throughout the movie, the Berlin wall represents the wall between immigrant Turks and native Germans. Ali Ekber (Kemal Sunal) is trying to get over the wall and reach Babet, the girl he has fallen in love with without being able to speak a single sentence. She achieves her goal by wearing a police uniform, symbolizing the German state and laws that Turkish immigrants fear. On the other hand, through the character Fatma, the oppression and double standards applied to women among Turkish immigrants are shown.
I just watched this film on video today. As a Turkish-American, it is hard to find good quality Turkish films, and much work has to be done to find those few that are out there. This is certainly one of the few, and it proves the remarkable genius of both the late, great Kemal Sunal- who starred in the film, and director Serif Goren, who was the field director of Yilmaz Guney's famous, yet controversial film "Yol- The Road" (1982). Sunal was also great in his last film "Propaganda" (1999). "Polizei" stands out because it is able to show the social oppression of an immigrant in Germany as Fassbinder in "Ali: Fear Eats The Soul" (1974), and at the same time, it allows Sunal to show his comic genius in a very profound way. Sunal's style is reminiscent of Jerry Lewis. As all Turkish actors of his era, he appeared in many bad films but in spite of that he always managed to show a spark of genius. "Propaganda" and "Polizei" illustrate the genius quite well. He was living proof that any actor of talent can make an artistic statement in his work, even if the film industry in his country is not up to his talents. I may not be as familiar with Sunal's films as Turkish people in Anadolu and Europe, but I will certainly his efforts a great deal.
