A divisive Tim Burton adaptation is surging on streaming two decades after its original release. Burton is a two-time Oscar nominee who is known for creative and frequently macabre works including Beetlejuice, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Edward Scissorhands, and 1999's Sleepy Hollow.

While many Tim Burton movies are original stories, he has helmed a fair number of adaptations as well. This includes 2010's Alice in Wonderland (a Disney live-action remake that grossed more than $1 billion), 2007's Sweeney Todd (an adaptation of the 1979 Stephen Sondheim musical), and an earlier movie that has found new life on streaming.

Freeform has announced its annual 31 Nights of Halloween programming, airing a variety of family-friendly spooky movies daily from October 1 through Halloween.

Many seasonal staples are represented, including Hocus Pocus, The Addams Family, Casper, The Witches, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

There’s even a few deeper cuts to traumatize the youth, like Arachnophobia, Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Black Cauldron, and Disturbia, the latter making its Freeform debut.

Last year’s event reached 22 million viewers, proving that even in the age of streaming, there’s something special about catching a horror movie on TV in October.

James Gunn’s Superman movie flies to digital release in the US today, just after a month after it landed in cinemas.

As is becoming something of an uncomfortable norm, Warner Bros has taken a massive box office hit, and sent it to on its journey to people’s homes, even while it’s playing in cinemas. Warners did this with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice when it was in the top three at the US box office previously. More recently, Universal wasted little time doing the same with Wicked last year.

Now it’s the turn of 2025’s Superman, written and directed by James Gunn, a film that’s successfully resurrected the Man Of Steel on the big screen. There are a handful of movies that just flat out don’t get enough credit for what they bring to the table. This could be because they are remakes that are overshadowed by the original property, something like the remake of The Crazies, came out the same year as another hot property, I’m thinking Near Dark getting buried by The Lost Boys, or be saddled with the heavy burden of being a sequel to an all-time classic like today’s topic. Hellbound: Hellraiser II came out just a year after the first one was released, in fact, it was greenlit while the first film was still in post-production, and while that could have been a recipe for disaster, this movie is something special. Not only is this the last Hellraiser that really adheres to its source material until the 2022 iteration came out, but it is actually a more entertaining time than its hallowed predecessor.

Nick Paley’s Hulu pilot Phony has been picked up to series at Hulu, starring Connie Britton and Sam Nivola. In addition to Paley, the project hails from Drew Goddard‘s Goddard Textiles and 20th Television.

Anthony King has joined the project as co-showrunner and executive producer.

Phony is a coming-of-age mystery about a teenager who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident to discover his mom — his only parent and his best friend — appears to have been replaced by an impostor.

Britton will play Ellen, a single mom to Sonny and the principal of his high school.

Nivola will play Sonny, the most beloved student at his high school, but the only person who really knows him is his mom.

Last weekend’s 66% drop for Fantasia Four: First Steps no doubt cast a shadow over Disney, with the film suddenly looking less like a breakout hit and more like another expensive underperformer. However, they’re bound to land another first-place movie this weekend, with Freakier Friday 2 set for a solid opening. While some think it could open north of $40 million, that number seems unlikely, with the film being rather coolly received by critics. As such, I’m expecting a finish in the $30 million range.

Warner Bros. should have a strong second-place showing with Zack Cregger’s Weapons, the director’s follow-up to Barbarian. Some believe it has a shot at beating Freakier Friday, but the summer hasn’t been all that great for horror, so I’m thinking a more modest $25 million is in the cards—although that would still be a great opening.

It feels bizarre that Wednesday returns at a time when Halloween is still months away. But Wednesday’s return at the height of summer speaks to Netflix’s blockbuster approach for the show’s second season — much bigger and starrier, a Stranger Things-like glow-up in scope, with somewhat mixed results.

When Wednesday dropped on Netflix way back in November 2022, it arrived to huge pre-release buzz and quickly became a hit, surpassing even Stranger Things. This probably shouldn’t have been a surprise, since Wednesday is spun off from IP that is, fittingly, immortal. Charles Addams’ New Yorker cartoons about the Addams family had already spawned a sitcom, two live-action movies in the ‘90s and two more animated movies...

A month prior to the release of "Heathers," the American moviegoing public was warned that a couple of upstart film brats had concocted an unspeakably cruel dark comedy about the epidemic of teen suicide. The critics were generally impressed, but some worried that communities that had been traumatized by this tragedy in real life would picket theaters playing the movie (or worse). "Heathers" was toying with raw emotions, we were told. A storm was coming, one that could end the careers of director Michael Lehmann, screenwriter Daniel Waters, and the rising star duo of Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.

New World Pictures obviously wanted "Heathers" to be a sleeper hit, but the combination of the film's subject matter and the company's limited resources placed it at an immediate disadvantage. So, it toe-dipped with a 35-screen opening on March 31, 1989. The movie's per-screen average was encouraging for an indie, but not the stuff of an ambitious expansion.

Margot Robbie is in early conversations to join Tim Burton’s remake of “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman” for Warner Bros. If a deal closes, Robbie would produce the new film with LuckyChap partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara with an eye to star.

The Wednesday star recently chatted with the BBC about how the hit Netflix show’s upcoming second season may resonate with viewers, especially those trying to figure out “where we find our sense of community now” in the era of social media.

It's been 35 years since the world was last exposed to the Gremlins on the big screen. And while these creatures made a return in an animated series on HBO Max, news for a third film installment remains scarce, until now. One of the film's original stars, Zach Galligan, shared an exciting update for Gremlins 3 and the steps needed for it to enter production.

During his appearance at Comic Con Manchester, the actor revealed that the script for the highly anticipated third installment is ready. Not only that, Warner Bros is interested in bringing the project to life. The only thing left to do before cameras start rolling is to get approval from Steven Spielberg, who was the executive producer for the first two films and the HBO series.

"After 35 years, they've come up with a script. Warner Bros. is incredibly interested in doing it; apparently, it's waiting on Mr.
