Jenna Ortega’s Career So Far: 13 Movies And TV Shows Starring The ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Actress
Image
With the momentum of stardom in her favor after Netflix’s Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Jenna Ortega will surely take on more Hollywood projects following Season 2 of Wednesday, which is currently in production.

Before these two Tim Burton projects, Ortega had roles in several other Netflix films and a television show as well as separate feature films. She got her start in a Colgate toothpaste commercial and then a Disney Channel show that mirrored the aspect of her big family.

Some might recognize Ortega as the actress who portrayed the younger version of Jane Gloriana Villanueva (portrayed by Gina Rodriguez when she’s older) in the CW’s Jane the Virgin. She also appeared in Studio 666 a horror film in which the Foo Fighters move into a storied rock ‘n roll studio that starts to haunt their work. Most recently right before the arrival of Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice in theaters,...

Tim Burton's Divisive Hit Movie Surges on Netflix 20 Years Later
Image
A divisive Tim Burton adaptation is surging on streaming two decades after its original release. Burton is a two-time Oscar nominee who is known for creative and frequently macabre works including Beetlejuice, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Edward Scissorhands, and 1999's Sleepy Hollow.

While many Tim Burton movies are original stories, he has helmed a fair number of adaptations as well. This includes 2010's Alice in Wonderland (a Disney live-action remake that grossed more than $1 billion), 2007's Sweeney Todd (an adaptation of the 1979 Stephen Sondheim musical), and an earlier movie that has found new life on streaming.

Universal's Terrifier Maze Does One Thing Halloween Horror Nights Has Never Done Before
Image
The most startling surprise of the past decade of horror cinema has been the ascension of the "Terrifier" series. Sure, writer/director Damien Leone's depraved, unapologetically gory, and transgressive slasher series may have begun as a gift to fringe genre movie fans, who immediately knew that there was something going on with these movies. But one look at the box office charts confirms one thing: the cruel supernatural murderer Art the Clown has officially crossed into the mainstream. The only thing more shocking than watching these movies is imagining regular people actually sitting down to watch them.

And when any horror series achieves a certain level of success, there...

‘Zombiecon Vol. 1’ Movie Review: Cosplayers Against The Rest Of The World
Image
The horror-comedy genre is clearly having its moment. From recent films like Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, The Parenting, and Get Away, to name a few, the genre blend is evidently finding an audience. Of course, this is not a new phenomenon; Tim Burton’s iconic Beetlejuice is an obvious example from the past. This genre mix is typically for those who are not into intense horrors and would prefer watching something fun, but maybe with a side of gore. Zombies have always been a staple when it comes to horror. After all, the idea of the dead rising and attacking the human race with zero emotions has always fascinated audiences. From...

Mr. Mom Turns 42: Why Michael Keaton Still Charms
Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Jeffrey Jones, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O'Hara in Beetlejuice (1988)

Before he suited up as Batman or went gloriously off the rails in Beetlejuice, Michael Keaton was just a laid off dad trying to survive the suburban jungle and Mr. Mom turned him into a comedy icon.

Released on August 19, 1983, Mr. Mom flipped the script on traditional gender roles and gave audiences a hilarious, heartfelt look at the trials of stay at home parenting. Written by John Hughes, this was his first produced screenplay, and it set the tone for the emotionally sharp, character driven comedies that would come to define ’80s cinema.

Plot Recap: Mr. Mom (1983)

In Mr. Mom, Michael Keaton plays Jack Butler, a Detroit...

Gary Oldman reveals why he rejected the role of Edward Scissorhands
Gary Oldman turned down the role Edward Scissorhands because he didn't "get it".The Bram Stoker's Dracula star was offered the lead part in Tim Burton's kooky 1990 Gothic romantic fantasy about a boy with scissors for hands, which ended up going to Johnny Depp, but he admits he had no clue what the narrative was after reading the "quirky, strange little script".Burton had released blockbusters including Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice and Batman when Oldman was approached. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "Well, that’s going back a few years. It would have been in the late ’80s. I was on Tim Burton’s list for the role of Edward Scissorhands. It was a small list. My agent thought I had a really good chance of getting it. They said to me, ‘Read the script.’ They sent the script over, and I basically said, ‘I don’t get it.

One of The Best Horror Movies of 2024 Returns to Streaming With a Major Catch

What an epic year 2024 was for the horror genre, during which fans were blessed with a ton of masterpieces starring similarly brilliant performers. One of these titles has now found a new streaming home, which is unlike any of the prominent streamers, joining an impressive horror collection just as summer winds down.

That masterpiece is The Substance, which premiered at Cannes on May 19, 2024, before its theatrical release on September 20, 2024. The movie was an...

How Rambo Started A Controversial Trend For Children's TV Shows
Image
The upcoming "Rambo" prequel will see Noah Centineo play a younger version of the titular hero, previously brought to the screen by Sylvester Stallone in 1982's "First Blood" and its subsequent sequels. Despite following a young John Rambo, though, chances are Jari Helmander's movie will be unsuitable for the youth market. It's a "Rambo" flick, after all, and this franchise has a history of being bloody and brutal. Secondly, if the film is canonical to the Stallone saga, the story will probably chronicle the character's escapades in Vietnam, and it's rare to see family-friendly entertainment about that particular conflict.

That said, there was a time when the John Rambo character was reimagined as a hero of children's cartoons. "Rambo: The Force of Freedom," a one-season wonder released in 1986, follows John (Neil Ross) as he leads a military team all over the globe to thwart a terrorist organization's nefarious plans. Inspired...

20 Years Later, Michael Keaton's Horror Defies Critics With Second Life on Netflix
Image
Michael Keaton’s horror film White Noise faced critical backlash upon its theatrical release back in 2005, but it is now gearing up for its Netflix debut on September 1. White Noise has always been at the receiving end of poor reviews, but considering that it had a pretty solid box office run, the film could find another life 20 years after its release if the algorithms and audience interest synergize well.

Keaton is known for his versatility across genres, and over the years, he has worked on several iconic movies, including Beetlejuice, Batman, Toy Story 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and more. Most of his films have solid scores on Rotten Tomatoes, but White Noise sits at the very bottom of his filmography in critical reception. It has a disappointing 7% critics' score and a below-average 31% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Regardless of its critical drubbing, the supernatural horror still made up for its industrial...

The Devil Wears Prada came out in 2006, and it was a smash hit. Tim Burton has a ton of horror classics under his scary belt. The director just helped release the first part of Wednesday Season 2, where he also serves as an executive producer on the Netflix series. However, way before he haunted the halls of Nevermore Academy, Burton was terrorizing the cursed town of Sleepy Hollow. His 1999 film remains a fan-favorite. There are four chilling Pops in Sleepy Hollow’s Funko wave. The three normal Pops are Katrina Van Tassel (Ricci), the Headless Horseman (Christopher Walken) and Ichabod Crane (Depp). Superman | James Gunn’s film fast-tracked to digital release in the US
Image
James Gunn’s Superman movie flies to digital release in the US today, just after a month after it landed in cinemas.

As is becoming something of an uncomfortable norm, Warner Bros has taken a massive box office hit, and sent it to on its journey to people’s homes, even while it’s playing in cinemas. Warners did this with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice when it was in the top three at the US box office previously. More recently, Universal wasted little time doing the same with Wicked last year.

Now it’s the turn of 2025’s Superman, written and directed by James Gunn, a film that’s successfully resurrected the Man Of Steel on the big screen. Last weekend, Superman added nearly $8m to its total in the US alone, sitting at number six in the box office chart. Its total in the States is now $334m, with $250m outside of America.

Wednesday Season 2: Jenna Ortega Spills Major Part 2 Spoilers
Image
Wednesday fans got a surprise at Sydney’s Cockatoo Island when a key Season 2 twist was revealed. Gwendoline Christie confirmed that her character, Nevermore Academy headmistress Larissa Weems, will return in Part 2 – despite being killed off in Season 1.

The reveal happened during the show’s final “Doom Tour” stop, where Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Tim Burton, and the series creators joined Christie on stage. In a dramatic entrance, she stepped out from behind a giant moon and told the crowd, “I was never gone. You just stopped looking.” (Via Daily Mail)

Weems’ return changes the stakes for the second half of the season. The shapeshifting headmistress, once Morticia Addams’ roommate, died after being poisoned in the Season 1 finale. Her resurrection opens the door to new plot twists when Wednesday comes out of her coma in Part 2.

Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
There are a handful of movies that just flat out don’t get enough credit for what they bring to the table. This could be because they are remakes that are overshadowed by the original property, something like the remake of The Crazies, came out the same year as another hot property, I’m thinking Near Dark getting buried by The Lost Boys, or be saddled with the heavy burden of being a sequel to an all-time classic like today’s topic. Hellbound: Hellraiser II came out just a year after the first one was released, in fact, it was greenlit while the first film was still in post-production, and while that could have been a recipe for disaster, this movie is something special. Not only is this the last Hellraiser that really adheres to its source material until the 2022 iteration came out, but it is actually a more entertaining time than its hallowed predecessor.

Tim Burton And The Rock Band Sparks Almost Made A Movie Of A Famed Manga Series
Image
Although they had already scored many hits over the years, the rock band Sparks enjoyed a massive visibility increase in 2021 with the release of Edgar Wright's "The Sparks Brothers," a documentary about their decades-long career and prolific output. Brothers Ron and Russell Mael have been performing together under the banner of Sparks since 1972 and have, as of 2025, released 26 original studio albums. Those familiar with the band can tell you about their unabashed quirkiness. Sparks is whimsical, often humorous, and frequently employs puns and jokes in their music. One of their albums is called "Kimono My House." Another is titled "Angst in My Pants." The stern and strange Ron writes the music, while the charming and handsome Russel sings. They're still touring, and both brothers are in their late 70s.

For decades, Sparks possessed filmmaking ambitions and was eager to write a movie musical. They finally got their wish in 2021 with the release of "Annette,...

Beetlejuice Conjures Up a Haunting New Figure From Trick or Treat Studios
Image
Tim Burton returned to the small screen this past week with Wednesday Season 2. However, in terms of the director's gothic list of films, one of the most beloved projects in his macabre backlog is Beetlejuice. The Ghost With the Most, played by Michael Keaton, has been a horror icon since 1988. Even more so since the long-awaited sequel was released last year. Now, as fans wait for a definitive answer on a third film, Beetlejuice returns with a new figure from Trick or Treat Studios.

Trick or Treat's 1:6th scale statue is Beetlejuice in his iconic black-and-white striped suit that was seen in both films. This is just a prototype at the moment which was previously shown off at Toy Fair 2025. However, that said, the likeness to Keaton's ghoulish complexion is definitely there. There's no pre-order information or a release window yet, so Beetlejuice fans are going to...

Tim Burton's 'Corpse Bride' Gets a Stunning Monster High Doll for Its 20th Anniversary
Image
Tim Burton has made a ton of memorable horror films over the years, like Beetlejuice and Frankenweenie. However, one of the director's most beloved works of the 21st century has been Corpse Bride. The stop-motion animated gothic romance is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Now, Monster High has joined the party with a new doll based on Corpse Bride.

A part of their Skullector Doll series, Mattel’s latest Monster High addition is the Corpse Bride herself, Emily. The figure comes with a spiderweb mesh and silky blue bridal gown and the 10.5-inch scale piece has 11 points of articulation. It's also the first sculpt from Monster High that features a skeletal arm, leg, and rip cage. As Mattel put it:

“We’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride with a supernaturally stunning Emily doll that fans of the film will be dying to add to their skullection.

Britton will play Ellen, a single mom to Sonny and the principal of his high school.

Nivola will play Sonny, the most beloved student at his high school, but the only person who really knows him is his mom.

Khalani Simon-Barrow and Luke Speakman in Weapons - Die Stunde des Verschwindens (2025)
Box Office Predictions: Will both Freakier Friday and Weapons dethrone Fantastic Four?
Khalani Simon-Barrow and Luke Speakman in Weapons - Die Stunde des Verschwindens (2025)
Last weekend’s 66% drop for Fantasia Four: First Steps no doubt cast a shadow over Disney, with the film suddenly looking less like a breakout hit and more like another expensive underperformer. However, they’re bound to land another first-place movie this weekend, with Freakier Friday 2 set for a solid opening. While some think it could open north of $40 million, that number seems unlikely, with the film being rather coolly received by critics. As such, I’m expecting a finish in the $30 million range.

Warner Bros. should have a strong second-place showing with Zack Cregger’s Weapons, the director’s follow-up to Barbarian. Some believe it has a shot at beating Freakier Friday, but the summer hasn’t been all that great for horror, so I’m thinking a more modest $25 million is in the cards—although that would still be a great opening.

Fantastic Four should hold on to third place with about $18 million,...

Image

The man, the myth, the maestro of macabre, Burton has been serving us with his spooky yet sweet cinematic goodness since the 1980s. They’re literally whimsical, weird, and wickedly fun. And well, that’s exactly how we love them, ain’t it?

While the 2000s had some Burton misses, he came roaring back in 2024 with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the sequel we didn’t know we still needed. And guess what? He’s not done yet. Burton teased that he’s diving back into animation.

‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ at 40: Tim Burton and More on Paul Reubens, Ditched Sequels, and Creating a Pop Culture Classic
Image
It’s been 40 years since Pee-wee Herman lost his bike, and to be honest, we’re still not over it.

Released in August 1985, “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” not only introduced audiences at large to Paul Reubens’ wild comic creation, it also welcomed us into the heightened world of Tim Burton. Then just an animator with a couple of credits under his belt, Burton was personally picked by Reubens to bring Pee-wee’s living-cartoon aesthetic to life on screen.

Turns out, it was a match made in heaven. Together, they sent viewers on a rip-roaring road trip following Reubens’ grey-suit-and-red-bowtie-loving manchild as he hitchhiked across America to find his beloved stolen bicycle. With Pee-wee’s unpredictability and Burton’s eye for detail, “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” defied expectations and more than tripled its $7million budget. What’s more, it propelled the duo to household-name status.

Four decades on, a lot has changed. Reubens returned for a Burton-less sequel,...

Wednesday: Season 2, Part 1
Image
Streaming on: Netflix

Episodes viewed: 4 of 4

It feels bizarre that Wednesday returns at a time when Halloween is still months away. The show that became a runaway Netflix hit — while creatively reinvigorating director Tim Burton and turning Jenna Ortega into a generational star — radiates creepy, kooky and altogether ooky vibes, spinning the Addams Family character into her own Harry Potter-for-goth-kids YA detective series with hugely fun results. But Wednesday’s return at the height of summer speaks to Netflix’s blockbuster approach for the show’s second season — much bigger and starrier, a Stranger Things-like glow-up in scope, with somewhat mixed results.

The not-so-secret weapon in Season 1 was Ortega herself — knockout casting, elevating the material with deliciously deadpan delivery. She remains excellent here, relishing every cutting line. “It’s Addams with two Ds,” she declares early on. “Like ‘padded room’.” We’re reunited with Wednesday during her idea of...

‘Wednesday’s New Season Is Death Warmed Over. That’s A Compliment
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Season 1 of Wednesday.

A Gothic boarding school especially for outcasts. A gossip-blogging werewolf roommate with a candy-colored bob. A new friend with the power to control insects. A principal who’s a shapeshifter. The protagonist’s most trusted compatriot: a disembodied hand. Yes, she’s being stalked by a monster whose hunting grounds are the woods by her school, but that’s just part of the mystique: Wednesday has made battling for your life look and feel aspirational.

When Wednesday dropped on Netflix way back in November 2022, it arrived to huge pre-release buzz and quickly became a hit, surpassing even Stranger Things. This probably shouldn’t have been a surprise, since Wednesday is spun off from IP that is, fittingly, immortal. Charles Addams’ New Yorker cartoons about the Addams family had already spawned a sitcom, two live-action movies in the ‘90s and two more animated movies...

Why Winona Ryder Was Fired From Marlon Brando's The Freshman
Image
A month prior to the release of "Heathers," the American moviegoing public was warned that a couple of upstart film brats had concocted an unspeakably cruel dark comedy about the epidemic of teen suicide. The critics were generally impressed, but some worried that communities that had been traumatized by this tragedy in real life would picket theaters playing the movie (or worse). "Heathers" was toying with raw emotions, we were told. A storm was coming, one that could end the careers of director Michael Lehmann, screenwriter Daniel Waters, and the rising star duo of Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.

New World Pictures obviously wanted "Heathers" to be a sleeper hit, but the combination of the film's subject matter and the company's limited resources placed it at an immediate disadvantage. So, it toe-dipped with a 35-screen opening on March 31, 1989. The movie's per-screen average was encouraging for an indie, but not the stuff of an ambitious expansion.

Margot Robbie Eyed to Star in Tim Burton’s ‘Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman’ With LuckyChap in Talks to Produce
Image
Margot Robbie is in early conversations to join Tim Burton’s remake of “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman” for Warner Bros. If a deal closes, Robbie would produce the new film with LuckyChap partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara with an eye to star.

News broke last February that Burton was working on a reimagining of the 1958 science-fiction horror movie, which follows a wealthy heiress who grows into a giant after an alien encounter and exacts revenge on her cheating husband. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” creator planned to direct, as well as produce alongside Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. Kai Dolbashian serves as executive producer.

“Gone Girl” writer Gillian Flynn penned a first draft of the screenplay, but has since exited the project due to other commitments. The producing team is currently searching for a new writer, and Robbie’s involvement as the lead actor would depend on the final version.

The Ghost With the Most Gets a Chilling New 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' 4K Steelbook Despite Third Film's Doubts
Image
It's hard to believe it's almost been a year since Beetlejuice Beetlejuice took over theaters. The sequel to the hit 1988 horror comedy was well worth the wait and made a ton of money at the box office. The Michael Keaton-starring Tim Burton film was a love letter to the genre's spooky past. Now, ahead of the film’s first anniversary, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is getting a gothic new 4K steelbook.

Per Gruv, the 4K/Blu-ray/Digital combo pack steelbook features new artwork of Keaton's Ghost With the Most and his number one employee Bob in the iconic Neitherworld waiting room. The inside artwork also features another promotional image of Beetlejuice from the sequel. This is the second steelbook released for the film. The first one was a glow-in-the-dark slipcover edition. This new steelbook will be $29.95 Usd. The special features will include a commentary by Burton and seven ghoulish featurettes,...

'Beetlejuice 3' May Not Be Happening, but Fans Can Relive the Horror Comedy Nostalgia With These New Collectibles
Image
Since Beetlejuice Beetlejuice released last fall, it seems like every week fans have been getting a new piece of merchandise to add to their Neitherworld collection. The long-awaited Tim Burton sequel starring Michael Keaton was a major critical and box office success, which could easily explain the Beetlejuice-Mania we’re all currently living in. However, Burton’s gothic world fits perfectly with our nostalgic toy market. Now, with a third film in doubt, Mezco Toyz has just unveiled their new Beetlejuice figures.

A part of Mezco's popular throwback 5 Points collection, their latest 3.75-inch scale figures revealed at San Diego Comic-Con are centered around this lovable Ghost With the Most. There are two different Beetlejuices in this line. There's the iconic horror villain in his main black-and-white striped suit and the hopeless romantic in his red wedding suit. Why Jenna Ortega Says “It’s Harder to Find a Sense of Self” Amid Social Media
Image
Jenna Ortega is getting candid about the isolating impact of younger people “finding their community online” rather than in person.

The Wednesday star recently chatted with the BBC about how the hit Netflix show’s upcoming second season may resonate with viewers, especially those trying to figure out “where we find our sense of community now” in the era of social media.

“I wasn’t around in the ’70s, but I hear stories of people knocking on their neighbors’ doors and the bikes going all throughout the city, and just expecting to meet someone at a certain time on a certain location,” she said, comparing it to the way young people interact in this day and age. “People don’t talk to each other in person. They’re interacting and finding their community online, which can be very isolating.”

Ortega added of people’s struggles in the social media era,...

‘Superman’ Nears Major Box Office Milestone As It Overtakes M. Night Shyamalan’s Biggest Blockbuster Ever
Image
There's an earnestness to the work of James Gunn and M. Night Shyamalan, two directors who currently find themselves neck-and-neck at the domestic box office. Gunn's Superman recently overtook Shyamalan's highest-grosser, The Sixth Sense. The superhero movie is passing the $300 million mark domestically as we speak, as it hopes to make up for lost ground overseas. Currently, the filmmakers both happen to be working at Warner Bros., with Gunn serving as co-ceo of DC Studios with Peter Safran, and Shyamalan having recently signed an overall deal.

Superman grossed a healthy $4 million-plus on Tuesday, taking its running total to $296 million; the movie will most likely pass the $300 million milestone either today or tomorrow. The Sixth Sense, on the other hand, concluded its domestic run with $292 million. Released in 1999, the film announced Shyamalan as a director to watch out for, earning him comparisons to Steven Spielberg. The movie also earned him...

Image
It's been 35 years since the world was last exposed to the Gremlins on the big screen. And while these creatures made a return in an animated series on HBO Max, news for a third film installment remains scarce, until now. One of the film's original stars, Zach Galligan, shared an exciting update for Gremlins 3 and the steps needed for it to enter production.

During his appearance at Comic Con Manchester, the actor revealed that the script for the highly anticipated third installment is ready. Not only that, Warner Bros is interested in bringing the project to life. The only thing left to do before cameras start rolling is to get approval from Steven Spielberg, who was the executive producer for the first two films and the HBO series.

"After 35 years, they've come up with a script. Warner Bros. is incredibly interested in doing it; apparently, it's waiting on Mr.
