The Sylvester Stallone thriller “Little America,” Aaron Sorkin’s Lucille Ball biopic with Cate Blanchett and 10 other feature films have qualified for the final round of the state of California’s tax credit program, the California Film Commission announced Monday.

The 12 projects, four of them indies and eight from studios, are on track to generate nearly $225 million in qualified spending, which is defined as below-the-line wages to California workers and payments to in-state vendors.

All 12 of the projects were scheduled to be announced as recipients to the tax credit program back in April, but the announcement was delayed as a result of the coronavirus, and the approval of these projects could indicate that the industry is getting back to work after the pandemic-driven shutdown.

Universal’s “Live Feed” will get the biggest tax credit, just over $10.0 million, followed by eOne Features’ thriler “Pursuit” ($6.6 million), Amazon’s untitled Lucille Ball project...

Hulu is on a hot streak following the releases of three critically acclaimed original series this year: “Ramy,” “Shrill,” and “Pen15.” By the looks of the streamer’s upcoming slate, the momentum should continue through May.

George Clooney’s anticipated adaptation of “Catch-22” is set to debut on May 17. In addition to directing and producing the miniseries, Clooney stars in the satirical wartime comedy alongside Christopher Abbott, Kyle Chandler, and Hugh Laurie.

Fans of actors frolicking on beaches are in for a treat. The complete run of “Baywatch” drops on May 23, while the premiere of “The Bachelorette” Season 15 airs on May 14. Meanwhile, several classic comedies such as “Borat,” “Knocked Up,” and “Dazed and Confused” also hit the streaming site this month.

Hulu has released its list of all the new content coming May 1 as well as everything that will leave the streaming service at the end of the month.

Highlights include Hulu Originals like “Into The Dark: All That We Destroy,” the show’s eighth episode coming May 3. Hulu describes the show as “A geneticist who fears that her son may be becoming a serial killer creates a group of clones in an attempt to cure him of his psychopathic tendencies by allowing him to relive the murder of his first victim.”

George Clooney’s “Catch-22,” which is on the Joseph Heller novel of the same name arrives mid-month. On November 24, 1971, a man calling himself Dan Cooper hijacked Northwest Orient Airlines flight 305 from Portland to Seattle (a trip known as a “milk run” due to the short distance involved). A few minutes into the voyage, he got the attention of a flight attendant and made it known that he had a bomb that he intended to use unless his demands were met. What did he want? $200,000 in unmarked bills and four parachutes.

Pretty soon you’ll not only be able to order movies off Amazon.com, but they will also be making them as well. In a official press release (via Coming Soon), Amazon has launched Amazon Studios. Their goal is to create movies from the best scripts, and Warner Bros. will have first access to those projects.

Through the aptly named Amazon Studios, Amazon is offering filmmakers and screenwriters a total of $2.7 million in compensation for the upcoming year if their projects are selected. The company has made an agreement with Warner Bros. Pictures to develop and distribute the top submissions and release them as mainstream pictures.
