The plot is based on the one of The Whole Town's Talking (1935).
Giandomenico Fracchia (Paolo Villaggio) and Miss Corvino (Anna Mazzamauro) watch a horror movie in a cinema titled Squartami tutta. The movie on screen is actually La morte cammina con i tacchi alti (1971).
One of the most well known scene of the movie, where commissario Auricchio (played by Lino Banfi) sing the song "Benvenuti a sti frocioni" was ad-libbed by the actor surprising even the actors and the guitar player in the scene.
Fracchia's love interest in this movie is colleague Miss Corvino (Anna Mazzamauro). In the TV series Giandomenico Fracchia - Sogni Proibiti di uno di noi (1975) the name of the character was Miss Ruini and was played by Ombretta Colli. Anna Mazzamauro played also the almost identical character of Miss Silvani in the movie series of Fantozzi
Despite the higher popularity of the character of Fantozzi, the movie proved to be a great success and became a cult movie, in particular also thanks to the performance of Lino Banfi (commissioner Auricchio).
