Eminem kicked off the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards with a performance of “Houdini” and his Jelly Roll collaboration “Somebody Save Me” off his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
The performance opened with a short skit in which a mass of Slim Shady clones stormed New York’s Ubs Arena under the leadership of Eminem as he rapped the opening lyrics of “Without Me” from 2002’s The Eminem Show. In a choppy blonde wig of his own, Eminem used the opening as a reference to his entrance at the 2000 MTV VMAs,...

Eminem, with eight VMA nominations this year, will open the show on Wednesday from New York’s Ubs Arena, MTV announced today.
The performance will mark the rapper’s first VMA appearances since a shared performance in Snoop Dogg in 2022. He made a surprise VMA appearance in 2012 during a Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg performance and, in his debut year of 1999, when he won a VMA for Best New Artist, he performed a medley of “Guilty Conscience” and “My Name Is.”
Eminem last opened the VMAs in 2010 with a performance of “Not Afraid,” followed by a duet with Rihanna for “Love the Way You Lie”
The performance this Wednesday will be Eminem’s first TV appearance since from the recent release of his 12th studio LP The Death of Slim Shady. His 8 nominations this year include Video of the Year and Best Hip-Hop.

Thanks to AI, Eminem has been confronted by a digital recreation of his alter ego Slim Shady pulled straight out of 2002 for Complex’s The Face-Off series. Watch the video below.
To begin the 11-minute “interview,” the AI Slim Shady roasts Eminem for going soft: “I’m back because you got your nuts tucked so tightly between your legs fucking Caitlyn Jenner would be jealous.”
The digital Slim Shady continues by saying the sitdown is an intervention from Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine, and Paul Rosenberg to “save our career” and echoes a point he made on The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) cut “Guilty Conscience 2.” On the track, Slim points out Eminem has profited greatly from hiding behind him to “say everything you didn’t have the balls to say.”

The Lawrence Kan-directed comedy-drama received 16 nominations, at the Tuesday nominations event, including best picture and best new director as well as others for cinematography, editing sound design and original song.
The story sees an investigative reporter go under cover to expose cruelty and other wrong-doings at the Rainbow Bridge Care Home. When Tate McRae broke through in 2020 with the brooding bedroom pop of her debut single “You Broke Me First,” the then-17 year-old Canadian singer stormed TikTok with such an innate understanding of how other teenagers were consuming music that RCA Records didn’t just sign her, they restructured their marketing strategy around her. But the formula behind that initial success— a combination of original dances, trend participation, and teaser snippets — hasn’t always worked for her. “She’s All I Wanna Be,” the should-have-been-hit from her 2022 debut album I Used...

The birth of the hip and naughty Irish-language rap group Kneecap will be portrayed in a raucous anti-establishment comedy penned and directed by Rich Peppiatt (“One Rogue Reporter”).
The film, which wrapped shooting this month, features the eponymous trio who play heightened versions of their own lives against the backdrop of post-Troubles Belfast. The politically engaged band has gained critical acclaim for their artful blend of Irish and English rap about the gritty reality of growing up in Northern Ireland.
French sales and co-production house Charades has boarded “Kneecap” and will be representing the film in international sales, while Curzon and Wildcard will handle the distribution in the U.K. and Ireland.
Charades will be unveiling the first footage of “Kneecap” at the Great 8 event, the annual Cannes buyers’ showcase of U.K. films from up-and-coming first and second-time directors. Charades previously took part of Great 8 with Charlotte Regan’s...

Disney and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, starring Paul Rudd, fell to third place at China’s theatrical box office in its second weekend on local screens, earning just $7 million. Hong Kong courtroom thriller A Guilty Conscience, meanwhile, topped the charts with an $8.5 million opening, according to box office tracker Artisan Gateway. And sci-fi blockbuster The Wandering Earth 2, which has been in cinemas since China’s Lunar New Year holiday over a month ago, climbed back into second place with an $7.4 million haul, lifting its total to $568 million.
Chinese viewers have rewarded Ant-Man 3 with strong social scores — 8.8 on Maoyan, 8.7 at Alibaba’s Taopiaopiao and 6.1 on Douban — but its earnings are coming in far below the first two titles in the franchise. After nine days in release, Ant-Man 3 had earned $31.4 million. Maoyan currently projects the film to finish with a total of around $40 million. The original...

Smosh has given viewers (and listeners) a taste of its upcoming album with a new music video. The long-time YouTube comedy duo, consisting of Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla, has released the parody song “Netflix Conscience,” a track from their soon-to-be-released album Shut Up! And Listen.
Smosh’s “Netflix Conscience” spoofs the song “Guilty Conscience” from rapper Eminem and featuring fellow musician Dr. Dre. That song is told from the perspective of a man’s conscience as he debates internally whether or not he should rob a liquor store. For their parody, Hecox and Padilla rap as opposing sides of various Netflix users’ consciences. In one scene, the Smosh duo tries to convince an 18-year-old college kid to either binge a show on Netflix or just go to bed and be ready for school in the morning.
“Netflix Conscience” is just one of the songs included on Smosh’s upcoming comedy pop album Shut Up!

HBO’s conundrum of a drama took a wild, nasty turn on Sunday, leaving one controversial character dead and proving Chief Garvey (Justin Theroux) is closer to insanity than he (or we) want to believe. And, thankfully, there's a glimpse into what the crazy cult is all about.

Eminem needs no introduction. Arguably one of the most iconic Mc’s of the 21st – century and with his 8 albums (11 if you count his D12 releases and collaboration with Royce Da 5’9″) he has solidified his spot as a living legend and praised for his contributions to not just hip-hop but music as a whole too. Like any artist though, for every ten or so songs executed to perfection he provides one embarrassing dud reminiscent of those drunk texts you shamefully look over the following morning mid-hangover. As a bit of a disclaimer, you’ll notice that Lose Yourself is not on the Awesome Song list primarily because I wanted to allow the spotlight for a couple of his non-radio singles.
So with that, why not take a journey into 5 awesome songs by the one and only Slim Shady and 5 songs that, for lack of a better term, sucked.

Previously on Mistresses, everyone cheated on everyone. I feel like that's always going to be the "previously on," so just don't forget it.
We open on Savi and her husband, post-sexytimes. They look exhausted.
They exchange "I love you lately"s which seems a little strange but they're both smiling so let's go with it. Savi is late for work, again, but she doesn't seem to mind so much. She tries (and succeeds in) distracting her husband from her lateness with kisses.
Meanwhile, April is dropping her daughter off for school. She spots and waves to Hot Dad Richard, but Richard is having none of it. Not keen on being stood up twice in a row, it seems.
Across town, Karen is making a mess in her office. Sensing trouble, Handsome Jacob materializes and asks her what's wrong, because she only causes tornadoes when she's in distress.

Over the last week or so, we polled you guys about your favorite MTV Video Music Awards moments and boy did you let us know who your favorites were in categories like Most Iconic Vma Performance, Best Video of the 2000s and Best Pop Performance!
All told, we received a staggering 15 million votes in nine categories. By far the most heated contest came in the Most Iconic Vma Moment poll, where we received nearly 10 million votes … and over 9 million of those were split between two acts – Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi. That’s right! Fan groups for the two classic MTV artists got crazy competitive, but ultimately Mj prevailed, taking just over 57 percent of the vote. We are just about a week into our Ultimate Vma Showdown and the polls are really heating up.
Classic MTV artists like Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi and, in some categories, Madonna are garnering big numbers, leaving more recent artists like Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, who typically dominate our polls, struggling to keep up.
How’s your favorite artist faring so far? Let’s take a look.
Most Iconic Vma Performance
This category has basically turned into a showdown between Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi. Mj’s medley of hits at the 1995 VMAs is leading the way with 45 percent of the vote, though Bon Jovi’s take on their classic “Wanted Dead or Alive” from the 1989 show trails it by less than 2 percent. The number separating the two is insanely small, respective to the crazy amount of votes cast in this category (which we will reveal after polls close).

Considering he is one of the biggest and most influential stars currently working in the music world, it's strange to think about people having doubts about Eminem's viability. The 12 years that have elapsed since the debut of The Slim Shady LP (which was released on this day in 1999) have certainly proven otherwise, but when Eminem first appeared on the scene, most everybody had it in the back of their minds that he would be a novelty act who wouldn't be able to survive to a second album, even despite his obvious skills and incredible pedigree. A dozen years on, what does The Slim Shady LP tell us?
Back in late 1998, the first exposure most people had to Eminem was via "My Name Is," the rapper's introductory single that seemed to be everywhere (though it was a pretty straightforward hip-hop track, it got spins on modern rock radio simply because it...

Hip-hop superstars' previous shows have created video sets and packed a lyrical punch.

When Eminem hits the stage, he rarely goes it alone, having already lit up Grammy night with pop luminaries like Elton John and hip-hop upstarts like Drake. This year, he's taking it back to his hip-hop roots by teaming up with longtime mentor and rap legend Dr. Dre, with additional assistance from Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine.
Sunday's performance promises to be a major hip-hop moment, as not only will Eminem rip the stage, but the set will mark Dre's first live performance in more than 10 years (not counting his hysteria-inducing cameos at Shady and Jay-z's Home and Home Tour). But what should fans expect from the Doc and Em's first joint awards-show matchup in over a decade? Well, if we take cues from their onstage team-ups back in the day,...

Two weeks ago, MTV News crowned Kanye West as the 2010 Man of the Year. However, a lot of extremely vocal fans thought that the individual picked for the number two position — rapper Eminem — should have been in first place by miles. There is an excellent case to be made for Slim Shady, as he had a tremendously successful year that saw him drop one of his most critically-acclaimed and commercially successful albums of his career (Recovery is on track to be the best-selling album of 2010), top the charts twice with two killer singles ("Not Afriad" and the Rihanna-assisted "Love the Way You Lie"), co-headline the biggest concerts of the year (the extremely well-received Home and Home shows with Jay-z) and re-ignite the debate over whether or not he is the greatest rapper of all time (an argument that will continue ad infinitum).

Em takes his mentor to task for his perfectionist ways on emotionally charged Detox track.

Eminem turned to Dr. Dre to help him get out of his funk when the two hit the studio to work on the Detroit lyricist's post-hiatus comeback LP, Relapse. Now, it looks like the tables have turned.
On Dre's "I Need a Doctor" — the second leak in as many days from the producer's long-awaited Detox — Em lowers the boom on his mentor saying his "perfectionist" rep is leaving the legend stuck in the mud.
"It hurts when I see you struggle/ You come to me with ideas/ You say they're pieces, so I'm puzzled," Eminem raps over the Alex da Kid produced-number. " 'Cause the sh-- I hear is crazy/ But you're either getting lazy/ Or don't believe in you no more/ Seem like...

About a year ago, Kanye West's life and career took a bizarre turn when he decided to storm the stage at Radio City Music Hall during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, grab the microphone away from Best Female Video winner Taylor Swift and declare Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)" one of "the best videos of all time ... of all time!" What followed was a bizarre ride for the producer and rapper, as he made a high-profile public apology, then went into hiding for a while before beginning his big comeback that will peak again when he performs at the 2010 Video Music Awards this Sunday, September 12. Though he called Swift personally to apologize shortly after the initial incident, over the weekend West used his new favorite toy — Twitter — to once again apologize to Swift before the one year anniversary of the initial event.

Despite an incredible surge in downloads and airplay, Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" was not able to topple Katy Perry's "California Gurls" from its perch atop the Billboard Hot 100. Slim Shady and collaborator Rihanna will have to settle for another week in second place. Recovery remains the top album in the country by leaps and bounds, and with no high-profile albums dropping this week, Eminem is sure to remain at the top of the chart for at least another seven days, further extending his incredible run this summer.
If Mr. Mathers wants to keep the momentum going, perhaps he should release "No Love," his team-up with Lil Wayne from Recovery, as his next single, as the MTV Newsroom blog readers have declared it his greatest collaboration. "No Love" took the top spot easily with nearly 42 percent of the vote. The songs behind it shook out in a fascinating fashion,...

Eminem's Recovery continues its reign on the top of the Billboard album chart, as it sold another 229,000 copies and blew away the competition this week (the highest debut — Big Boi's long-awaited Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty — moved only 62,000 units). It's very possible that Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" could find itself at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 as well, which would make Eminem completely and utterly dominant.
As we established this earlier this week, "Love the Way You Lie" (a team-up with Rihanna) is the best collaboration Eminem has ever had with a female artist (the song narrowly beat out Dido and "Stan" in the poll taken earlier this week). The more we listen to Recovery's "No Love" (Em's tag team with Lil Wayne), the more we think it might be his best collaboration with another rapper. Both MCs are incredibly sharp, the...

With the release of Recovery, Eminem has unleashed another batch of killer songs into the universe. As an album, it ranks right up there with his best work and contains at least three songs that feel like instant classics. For anybody arriving at Slim Shady's party a little late, a walk through his past work is essential, but the hits compilation Curtain Call isn't necessarily the place to start. For one, it doesn't include anything from Relapse or Recovery, which means that Eminem's comeback isn't represented at all. It also doesn't contain any of Em's most valuable guest spots, posse cuts or one-offs, making it woefully incomplete.
So just as we did with that new Oasis greatest hits album that hit stores last week, let's take a look at what songs we would keep, collect and kick to the curb on "Curtain Call."

Believe it or not, television star Robert Culp has died at the age of 79. Sadly, like his contemporary Peter Graves did last week, the actor fell outside his home.
Rather than suffering from a heart attack, though, Culp sadly just hit his head on the ground and passed away later in the hospital as a result of the accident.
Known best to this generation as Ray Romano’s father-in-law on Everybody Loves Raymond (or maybe as the narrator of Eminem’s “Guilty Conscience” video), Culp was a regular or lead actor in many, many series, including the superhero show The Greatest American Hero, the western Trackdown and most famously, the buddy secret agent hit I Spy. The latter was turned into a 2002 movie, in which Eddie Murphy was cast in Culp’s role.
Culp also wrote some episodes for those TV shows mentioned and had a hand in directing. He even helmed one film,...
