Eminem kicked off the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards with a performance of “Houdini” and his Jelly Roll collaboration “Somebody Save Me” off his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).

Eminem, with eight VMA nominations this year, will open the show on Wednesday from New York’s Ubs Arena, MTV announced today.

The performance will mark the rapper’s first VMA appearances since a shared performance in Snoop Dogg in 2022. He made a surprise VMA appearance in 2012 during a Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg performance and, in his debut year of 1999, when he won a VMA for Best New Artist, he performed a medley of “Guilty Conscience” and “My Name Is.”

Eminem is set to open the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, airing live this Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m. Et.

The rapper will perform material from his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady, for the first time on television. Eminem is also nominated for eight VMAs this year, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, and Song of the Summer for the Death of Slim Shady’s lead single, “Houdini.” If he wins just one award, he’ll surpass Peter Gabriel as the most decorated male artist in VMAs history.

Rich Peppiatt’s comedy-drama Kneecap opens in 237 cinemas across England, Wales and Scotland through Curzon this weekend, following a strong two weeks in its native Ireland.

The film opened in Ireland and Northern Ireland on August 8 through Wildcard Distribution and held a top five spot for its first two weekends amid summer box office competition, reaching £557,610 as of Sunday, August 18.

Kneecap is a semi-fictionalised story of the eponymous Belfast-based hip-hop trio, and charts their rise from the Gaeltacht Quarter of West Belfast to becoming popular music artists.

Group members Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin and JJ Ó Dochartaigh all star as themselves.

Thanks to AI, Eminem has been confronted by a digital recreation of his alter ego Slim Shady pulled straight out of 2002 for Complex’s The Face-Off series. Watch the video below.

Hong Kong’s biggest ever local hit A Guilty Conscience was named best film at the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards (Hkfa), while Mad Fate’s Soi Cheang took best director and The Goldfinger swept six awards including best actor for Tony Leung.

A Guilty Conscience producer Bill Kong received the top award on stage from acclaimed Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda. That was the only win on the night for the courtroom drama, which went into the awards ceremony with 10 nominations.

Murder mystery Mad Fate scooped three awards comprising best screenplay, best editing and best director for Cheang.

“In Broad Daylight,” an expose of real events in a care home for the elderly, dominated the nominations for the Hong Kong Film Awards.

The Lawrence Kan-directed comedy-drama received 16 nominations, at the Tuesday nominations event, including best picture and best new director as well as others for cinematography, editing sound design and original song.

The story sees an investigative reporter go under cover to expose cruelty and other wrong-doings at the Rainbow Bridge Care Home. Eminem just added another award to his already vast trophy case. The Detroit rapper (along with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and Mary J. Blige) won a 2022 Creative Arts Emmy award for his participation in this year’s Super Bowl Halftime performance. Smosh has given viewers (and listeners) a taste of its upcoming album with a new music video. The long-time YouTube comedy duo, consisting of Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla, has released the parody song “Netflix Conscience,” a track from their soon-to-be-released album Shut Up! And Listen.

Smosh’s “Netflix Conscience” spoofs the song “Guilty Conscience” from rapper Eminem and featuring fellow musician Dr. Dre. That song is told from the perspective of a man’s conscience as he debates internally whether or not he should rob a liquor store. For their parody, Hecox and Padilla rap as opposing sides of various Netflix users’ consciences. In one scene, the Smosh duo tries to convince an 18-year-old college kid to either binge a show on Netflix or just go to bed and be ready for school in the morning.

There's creepy, there's really creepy – and then there's last night's episode of The Leftovers.

HBO’s conundrum of a drama took a wild, nasty turn on Sunday, leaving one controversial character dead and proving Chief Garvey (Justin Theroux) is closer to insanity than he (or we) want to believe. And, thankfully, there's a glimpse into what the crazy cult is all about.

Be PreparedThe episode opens alternating between Chief Garvey and cult leader Patti (Ann Dowd) busy with their respective tasks. He's preparing a chicken dinner at home. She's meticulously assembling clothing on the floor of the church that her group recently acquired.

Eminem needs no introduction. Arguably one of the most iconic Mc’s of the 21st – century and with his 8 albums (11 if you count his D12 releases and collaboration with Royce Da 5’9″) he has solidified his spot as a living legend and praised for his contributions to not just hip-hop but music as a whole too. Like any artist though, for every ten or so songs executed to perfection he provides one embarrassing dud reminiscent of those drunk texts you shamefully look over the following morning mid-hangover. As a bit of a disclaimer, you’ll notice that Lose Yourself is not on the Awesome Song list primarily because I wanted to allow the spotlight for a couple of his non-radio singles.

Over the last week or so, we polled you guys about your favorite MTV Video Music Awards moments and boy did you let us know who your favorites were in categories like Most Iconic Vma Performance, Best Video of the 2000s and Best Pop Performance!

All told, we received a staggering 15 million votes in nine categories. By far the most heated contest came in the Most Iconic Vma Moment poll, where we received nearly 10 million votes … and over 9 million of those were split between two acts – Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi. That’s right! Fan groups for the two classic MTV artists got crazy competitive, but ultimately Mj prevailed, taking just over 57 percent of the vote. The late King of Pop’s 1995 Vma performance also took the crown for Best Vma Pop Performance.

Eminem turned to Dr. Dre to help him get out of his funk when the two hit the studio to work on the Detroit lyricist's post-hiatus comeback LP, Relapse. Now, it looks like the tables have turned.

On Dre's "I Need a Doctor" — the second leak in as many days from the producer's long-awaited Detox — Em lowers the boom on his mentor saying his "perfectionist" rep is leaving the legend stuck in the mud.

"It hurts when I see you struggle/ You come to me with ideas/ You say they're pieces, so I'm puzzled," Eminem raps over the Alex da Kid produced-number. " 'Cause the sh-- I hear is crazy/ But you're either getting lazy/ Or don't believe in you no more/ Seem like...

About a year ago, Kanye West's life and career took a bizarre turn when he decided to storm the stage at Radio City Music Hall during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, grab the microphone away from Best Female Video winner Taylor Swift and declare Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)" one of "the best videos of all time ... of all time!" What followed was a bizarre ride for the producer and rapper, as he made a high-profile public apology, then went into hiding for a while before beginning his big comeback that will peak again when he performs at the 2010 Video Music Awards this Sunday, September 12. Though he called Swift personally to apologize shortly after the initial incident, over the weekend West used his new favorite toy — Twitter — to once again apologize to Swift before the one year anniversary of the initial event.

Despite an incredible surge in downloads and airplay, Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" was not able to topple Katy Perry's "California Gurls" from its perch atop the Billboard Hot 100. Slim Shady and collaborator Rihanna will have to settle for another week in second place. Recovery remains the top album in the country by leaps and bounds, and with no high-profile albums dropping this week, Eminem is sure to remain at the top of the chart for at least another seven days, further extending his incredible run this summer.

If Mr. Mathers wants to keep the momentum going, perhaps he should release "No Love," his team-up with Lil Wayne from Recovery, as his next single, as the MTV Newsroom blog readers have declared it his greatest collaboration. "No Love" took the top spot easily with nearly 42 percent of the vote. The songs behind it shook out in a fascinating fashion,...

Eminem's Recovery continues its reign on the top of the Billboard album chart, as it sold another 229,000 copies and blew away the competition this week (the highest debut — Big Boi's long-awaited Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty — moved only 62,000 units). It's very possible that Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" could find itself at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 as well, which would make Eminem completely and utterly dominant.

As we established this earlier this week, "Love the Way You Lie" (a team-up with Rihanna) is the best collaboration Eminem has ever had with a female artist (the song narrowly beat out Dido and "Stan" in the poll taken earlier this week). The more we listen to Recovery's "No Love" (Em's tag team with Lil Wayne), the more we think it might be his best collaboration with another rapper. Both MCs are incredibly sharp, the...

With the release of Recovery, Eminem has unleashed another batch of killer songs into the universe. As an album, it ranks right up there with his best work and contains at least three songs that feel like instant classics. For anybody arriving at Slim Shady's party a little late, a walk through his past work is essential, but the hits compilation Curtain Call isn't necessarily the place to start. For one, it doesn't include anything from Relapse or Recovery, which means that Eminem's comeback isn't represented at all. It also doesn't contain any of Em's most valuable guest spots, posse cuts or one-offs, making it woefully incomplete.

So just as we did with that new Oasis greatest hits album that hit stores last week, let's take a look at what songs we would keep, collect and kick to the curb on "Curtain Call."

Believe it or not, television star Robert Culp has died at the age of 79. Sadly, like his contemporary Peter Graves did last week, the actor fell outside his home.

Rather than suffering from a heart attack, though, Culp sadly just hit his head on the ground and passed away later in the hospital as a result of the accident.

Known best to this generation as Ray Romano’s father-in-law on Everybody Loves Raymond (or maybe as the narrator of Eminem’s “Guilty Conscience” video), Culp was a regular or lead actor in many, many series, including the superhero show The Greatest American Hero, the western Trackdown and most famously, the buddy secret agent hit I Spy. The latter was turned into a 2002 movie, in which Eddie Murphy was cast in Culp’s role.
