I found "Katastrofa w Gibraltarze" (The Gibraltar Disaster) very interesting and insightful. And it is not because I am not that much interested in the personality of General Wladyslaw Sikorski, but I like to understand why some crucial things in our history happen. From 30.07.1941, the Soviet Union was recognizing the Polish government in London, and later on, the United States, Great Britain, Poland, and the Soviet Union were all allies in their fight against Nazi Germany. My uncle was then an officer in the Polish troops at the side of the British army, so there is a personal connection too. So why did Poland fall to Soviet domination, and my uncle never returned home and died in England? "The Gibraltar Disaster" was filmed in the times of the Polish People's Republic, but I think it is objective enough. It also does not point the finger of blame for the death of General Sikorski to anybody. To me the film is insightful in showing the backstage of big politics during that time, so it gives us the means to understand what was happening. "The Gibraltar Disaster" is more in the style of a fictionalized documentary, though with the participation of some popular actors. And Jerzy Molga even looks like Wladyslaw Sikorski. I am from a completely different generation, and I look at those events without emotion but with great interest because they also affected the fate of my family and indirectly my life too.
