"Caligula's Slaves" is a movie that won't satisfy anyone: for those looking for exploitation, it's too tame; for those looking for eroticism, it's too sporadic; for those looking for a genuine historical epic, it's too cheap; and for those looking simply for a good movie of any type, it's too incoherent, incompetent and pseudo-arty. Rarely does a scene have any connection with the preceding or the following one. I'll only give it credit for three things: in Robert Gligorov, they found a Caligula with enough of a physical resemblance to Malcolm McDowell to create some sort of link with the notorious Tinto Brass film; Sandra Venturini is gorgeous; and after a couple of unsuccessful attempts the film finally gives us a fairly exciting girlfight near the end. Other than that, the Brass version is better and God knows that was no masterpiece to begin with. 0.5 out of 4 stars.
