The best adult film I've ever seen. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Full plot, decent acting, excellent period costumes and sets, humorous dialogue (at least the English-dubbed version). It touches on the classic taboos: incest and priests having sex, which makes it all the more titillating. The priest is hilarious. Responding to another reviewer's comments: the fact that the male actors are NOT hunks makes it even more "real"; having a 30 year-old California dude play Janine's father or the priest would have ruined this film. Even the actresses are not your modern-day, surgically-enhanced, depilated sex bombs, adding again to the "realness" of the film. The sex scenes are many and fast-paced. It's commendable for what it DOESN'T have: gynecological close-ups and long, repetitive sex, and the ubiquitous super-endowed actors. Also doesn't have anal sex, which is so over-used these days. I'm desolate 'cause I mistakenly erased the last 15 minutes of my copy.
This is an extraordinary film -- a real collector's find. Enthusiastically acted, beautifully shot and edited. Very erotic. A must-see! It stars Patricia Rhomberg, who "owns" the word "sexy." It is also distributed under the title Sensational Janine.
Yet another Euro film based on the memoirs of goodtime gal Josephine Mutzenbacher (aside from several softcore, there were also the XXX SENSATIONAL JANINE and PROFESSIONAL JANINE). All credits are pseudonymous in the US video version. Several of the plot incidents are also found in PROFESSIONAL JANINE. Among the familiar set pieces are the party at the tavern, including the orchestra, and the missing watch scene.
Josephine, a somewhat hard-looking redhead in her late 20s (Jane Iwanoff), shacked up with a businessman in the city, gets a visit from her country cousin Veronica, whom she initiates into the trade (though I'd say, watching Veronica in action, that she's been there before). After Jo's b.f. catches them partying, the girls have to make their own way, eventually seducing an *old* guy they meet at a brothel into financing a whorehouse of their own.
Fairly trivial stuff, but the women are offbeat attractive in a Europorn way. They don't look like plasticized, coked-up Hollywood pornettes of the late 70s/early 80s (or today, for that matter!). Dig the hairy pits and legs on hick Veronica, a little plain jane brunette hardly-the-type. And when did you ever see a guy as old as the one Jo, Veronica, and their redhead friend Sissy triple-team getting lucky in a US film? (Ron Jeremy doesn't count.)
Dubbing is so-so. A voice very familiar to American audiences of Euro imports essays the Josephine character. Tech credits are OK for a film shot all indoors, and the camera is focused. Billian's mise-en-scéne is not up to his near-contemporary "Josefine Mutzenbacher -- wie sie wirklich war," aka "Sensational Janine," but it's still a professional-looking picture, and well above average for the genre.
Anyone who watches a lot of porn soon gets tired of seeing the same old faces (&c) over and over. Most of the cast here are far from overexposed, and the porn scenes are watchable. Fans will note the presence of Barbara Moose and her co-star from "Pleasure So Deep" (a curly head blonde who played the maid in the latter film) at the big orgy finale. Lead Iwanoff also had a role in "Pleasure," so it's sort of old home week on the set.

Hans Billian's 1978 adult film "Die Beichte der Josefine Mutzenbacher" is a raunchy ride through the sexual escapades of the titular Viennese courtesan. Based on the erotic novel of the same name, this film delivers on its promise of explicit content and leaves no stone unturned in its exploration of carnal desires.
The film follows Josephine (Jane Iwanoff), a redhead in her late 20s, who is shacked up with a businessman. When her country cousin Veronica comes to visit, Josephine wastes no time in initiating her naïve relative into the ways of the flesh trade. However, their fun is interrupted when Josephine's boyfriend catches them in the act. Left to their own devices, the two women navigate their way through brothels and eventually seduce an older gentleman into financing their own house of pleasure.
The standout scene in this film involves a threesome with Josephine, Veronica, and their redheaded friend Sissy. In a display of erotic choreography, the three women entice an older man into their boudoir, where they proceed to pleasure him in a variety of ways. The scene is a testament to the film's unapologetic celebration of female sexuality, as the women confidently and skillfully take control of their own pleasure and that of their partner.
Billian's direction is commendable, especially given the constraints of shooting entirely indoors. The film has a professional look and feel, and the cast, though not widely recognized, brings a certain freshness to the genre. The women, in particular, are described as "offbeat attractive," with natural body hair and a more relatable aesthetic than the plasticized glamour of Hollywood porn stars of the time.
However, the film is not without its drawbacks. The plot is fairly trivial and fails to capture the depth of its source material. The dubbing is also underwhelming, and the mise-en-scène falls short of Billian's previous work.
In conclusion, "Die Beichte der Josefine Mutzenbacher" is a solid entry in the adult film genre. It offers viewers a glimpse into the world of Viennese courtesans, uninhibited sexual exploration, and a celebration of natural beauty. While it may not be a masterpiece, it certainly delivers on its erotic promises.
