Die Wiege des Satans

Ändern
  • Frank Davis: Why are you trying so hard to do your job?
  • Mr. Mallory: I have a high regard for the human race. I want to see that it sticks around a little while longer.
  • Mr. Mallory: [to Eugene Scott, as the monster baby attacks him] If you're human, you'll kill it.
  • Mr. Mallory: I had a feeling that you couldn't be trusted.
  • Frank Davis: I'd like you to take a look at this chart.
  • [reveals a revolver]
  • Frank Davis: Persuasive, isn't it? You could call it a case of temporary insanity. Tell them to bring the husband up here to see his wife. Come on.
  • Mr. Mallory: Bring the father down on the double.
  • Frank Davis: Very good.
  • Dr. Perry: [about the monster babies] More alert everyday. They communicate, they're very much aware of each other, they've been quite calm and I think they trust me. My tests indicate they have the mental capacity of a human infant at 21 months.
  • Eugene Scott: I'd like to see them.
  • Dr. Perry: Are you sure?
  • Eugene Scott: Yeah, I saw mine. I'm not afraid to look anymore.
  • Dr. Perry: One thing I think you will find, they bear a striking resemblance to each other, almost like brother and sister.
  • Eugene Scott: Oh is... is one of them a female?
  • Dr. Perry: When they grow in five to six years, they should be capable of sexual activity. I pride myself in thinking that these two might be the first to reproduce on this planet.
  • Eugene Scott: Which one is mine?
  • Dr. Perry: Oh, he's in the laboratory upstairs. He'll be brought down here eventually, where it's warm. Also being with each other seems to calm them. I've named them; first necessity of a child I suppose. Might be in bad taste or even blasphemous to have named them Adam and Eve. What the Hell, it seemed like a good joke at the time.
  • Dr. Forest: [to Eugene] They know you're afraid of them.
  • Eugene Scott: No kidding. They're not the only ones who know it, or do I know?
  • Dr. Perry: Your fear seems to have threatened them.
  • [to the monster babies]
  • Dr. Perry: He's the father of one just like you. You're going to have a little baby brother. He's here and he's safe and this is his father. See, neither of them have ever met their parents; probably want to focus on you as a father figure.
  • Eugene Scott: [sarcastically] Ah, thanks Doc, I'd hate to rob you of that honor.
  • Dr. Perry: Stop that. Everybody knows that you can make noises if only it makes people nervous and fearful of you. You behave yourself or I won't let you out.
  • Eugene Scott: [shocked] You let them out?
  • Dr. Perry: Just Adam, and I'm always well armed. I've never seen them this agitated before. You can see them again tomorrow if you want.
  • Eugene Scott: Yeah, thanks Doc, that'd be great.
  • Dr. Perry: [to the monster babies] Stop that. Behave yourselves.
  • Mr. Mallory: We made reservations for you and your wife to return to Tucson.
  • Eugene Scott: If I were you, I'd have us stay around here for bait. Davis told me that these, uh, infants have a very strong homing instinct. They always manage to find their parents. It may be that my baby just might be, might try to come back and get me.
  • Mr. Mallory: You'll help us?
  • Eugene Scott: I said I'm staying. I mean, a few people might be alive today, if I hadn't cooperated with Davis.
  • Mr. Mallory: I'll cancel the reservation.
  • Eugene Scott: I guess I'm a funny guy. Show me a few murders, and I'm impressed. All you had to do was put one of those on my back and I suddenly got your point. I got the picture.
  • Mr. Mallory: I want you to know that you're not in this alone. My real name was Preston. The baby that was born in Seattle, two years ago, was mine. Teresa and I had wanted a baby. They told us we couldn't have any. And then she conceived. That baby was going to be the most important thing in our lives. Then it was born. It was one of them, it, it killed her, it tore her apart. I came home. She'd the baby, and it was bending over her body. I knew it was going to kill me next, and I had my service revolver and...
  • Eugene Scott: Then you made a profession out of it. If you were right, you had to go around and prove it over and over again.
  • Mr. Mallory: I was right! They don't belong on this Earth! They'll keep coming and destroy us all! They'll take over.
  • Eugene Scott: If you believe in God, then they must be here for some reason.
  • Mr. Mallory: Well, I don't believe in God. Not anymore.
  • Eugene Scott: Hi.
  • Frank Davis: Hello.
  • Eugene Scott: I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to talk.
  • Frank Davis: I didn't want to interrupt. You have so many nice friends.
  • Eugene Scott: Yeah we do. Listen this is, uh, this is very embarrassing, but, uh, I don't think I know you.
  • Frank Davis: I just flew in from Los Angeles, I'm sorry, my name is Frank Davis.
  • Eugene Scott: Hi, I'm, uh, well, you obviously know who we are.
  • Frank Davis: Never heard of me then?
  • Eugene Scott: No, should I have?
  • Jody Scott: Uh, Gene?
  • Eugene Scott: Honey, this is Frank Davis from Los Angeles.
  • Jody Scott: Oh, hello.
  • Eugene Scott: Just flew down.
  • Frank Davis: How do you do.
  • Eugene Scott: Hope you're not selling insurance or encyclopedias.
  • Frank Davis: No, I'm not here to sell anything.
  • Eugene Scott: Honey, why don't you put the presents away? We'll work this out.
  • Jody Scott: Well I'd like to hear it.
  • Frank Davis: It's about your baby.
  • Jody Scott: Oh? Well I was going to get some coffee. Would you like some coffee, something?
  • Eugene Scott: Darling, you can stop playing hostess now. I mean the guys here, he's been here all day, and now he won't tell us what he wants.
  • Frank Davis: I have told you.
  • Jody Scott: Gene, just let him talk will you?
  • Eugene Scott: Well who's stopping him?
  • Jody Scott: Look, if you have something to tell me about my baby, then why don't you? Because, frankly, it's making me kind of nervous.
  • Frank Davis: I don't know if you're aware that doctors all over the country have been contacted by the federal government, and asked to report what they consider to be cases of abnormal pregnancy.
  • Eugene Scott: I don't know what that has to do with us.
  • Frank Davis: Dr. Fairchild has taken an extensive series of tests just last week.
  • Jody Scott: Yes, but you said abnormal.
  • Frank Davis: The baby's very large, isn't it?
  • Eugene Scott: Listen, are you a doctor?
  • Jody Scott: No, no he's not a doctor. He's the man that was in Time magazine. Remember, there was a story? It was in all the newspapers.
  • Eugene Scott: Frank Davis?
  • Jody Scott: The Davis baby. Remember there was a special program on CBS?
  • Eugene Scott: Yes, I do remember. I felt very sorry for you, Mr Davis.
  • Jody Scott: Is your wife all right?
  • Frank Davis: She's recovered.
  • Eugene Scott: But have you recovered, or do you go around to people's houses trying to frighten them? Mr davis, if there's anything I could do for you, if you need an attorney...
  • Frank Davis: If you read about me then you've heard about what happened to the baby born in Seattle.
  • Eugene Scott: Yes, I do remember. That one was killed, wasn't it?
  • Frank Davis: Yes. At birth.
  • Jody Scott: I'm sorry, excuse me, I don't feel... No I don't feel very good, now.
  • Eugene Scott: I'm sorry, Mr Davis. My wife's not feeling well. I'm gonna have to ask you to leave, I don't want to have to call the police.
  • Frank Davis: That's just what you don't want to do. The police aren't going to be of any help to you or your baby. You see, there were blood specimens taking that day by Dr Fairchild. And they matched up with other samples.
  • Jody Scott: Well what other samples? What do you mean?
  • Frank Davis: They're looking for characteristics that they found in my wife's blood. Now they're trying to locate these infants before they're born, so they can be terminated. If it is one of these babies, it will come early, unexpectedly. Now they're prepared for that. The team arrived the day before yesterday...
  • Eugene Scott: Team?
  • Frank Davis: Team, right. Specialists.
  • Eugene Scott: Are you saying there are people here for the specific purpose of killing our baby?
  • Frank Davis: If it's like my son when it's born, yes. Well there's a, a man named Mallory across the street, watching this house right now. They change shifts every eight hours.
  • Jody Scott: You mean that Dr Fairchild's part of all this?
  • Frank Davis: I don't think the man out front recognized me. I came in with your other guests.
  • Eugene Scott: Well hell if it's going to be a goddamn monster, why not kill it? Huh?
  • Frank Davis: They use that word too easily, don't they? Monster? Huh, the Davis monster? Because it's different.
  • Jody Scott: They didn't show any pictures of your baby. How many people did it...
  • Frank Davis: How many people did it... murder? In the delivery room, they tried to suffocate my child, but naturally, it fought back. But he, he found us. He came home to us. Came to me, his father, for protection. And I shot him. Wounded my own child. But he forgave me. Is that an animal? Is it? Is that a monster, that can forgive? I'm sorry. See, I cooperated with the authorities. My wife and I let them take tests, so now they trust us.
  • Eugene Scott: You ever done this before? Gone to other people?
  • Frank Davis: Yes there was a woman in Evanston, Illinois, but I learned too late. The team had already arrived. They were prepared. Right in the delivery room, they snuffed out its life. There's been two false alarms, and two mistakes. I don't, I hope that, you don't think this is too crazy of me, but.. I have a feeling that this one isn't a mistake. May I touch it?
  • Jody Scott: Yes, you can.
  • Frank Davis: I felt it as soon as I came in the house. The same feeling I had when my son was close by. Don't be ashamed. I hope you have the opportunity to see that, Eugene. Some of us have, it makes us very remarkable in our own way.
  • Eugene Scott: Hey don't you think you better go now? I mean, uh, maybe you should go out the back. You don't want the little man to see you.
  • Frank Davis: I'll be talking to you in a few days. I'll stay in the motel. Call if you need me. It's the only place I could find with a private phone. I don't trust the switchboard. Take it easy. It's happening, and it's going to continue to happen to lots of other people. Thousands, millions maybe before this century's out.
  • Jody Scott: Did he tell you what it looked like?
  • Eugene Scott: No.
  • Jody Scott: I feel exactly like I did when they called me and told me Dad died of a heart attack. Why?
  • Eugene Scott: Jody, why did you let him touch you?
  • Dr. Forest: Oh, Dr. Perry.
  • Eugene Scott: How do you do, Dr. Perry?
  • Dr. Perry: Mr. Scott. I think I should explain to you, Mr Scott, that yours is not the only child here. We have others.
  • Eugene Scott: Others?
  • Dr. Perry: Yes, one was brought from Atlanta about 12 days ago. One was delivered here. The mother didn't survive.
  • Eugene Scott: Well, maybe it's the trip, but, uh, I'm not feeling too well.
  • Dr. Forest: Well, that's only normal. You haven't eaten for 24 hours.
  • Dr. Perry: We've prepared a room up there in the west wing.
  • Eugene Scott: Oh, thank you.
  • Dr. Perry: This place used to be a private academy for embassy children, till one day a kid fell in this pool and drowned. Oh, it was quite a scandal. The lawsuits dragged on for months. The school had to close down. It's been a white elephant ever since.
  • Eugene Scott: But if you're wrong, Dr. Perry? I mean what if these babies can't be tamed or trained or whatever you're going to do with them?
  • Dr. Perry: We're not trying to turn them into pets. Just trying to make them realize their maximum potential, whatever that may be.
  • Eugene Scott: Yeah? Well I don't know how to say this, but what if uh...
  • Dr. Perry: Oh I know what you're trying to say, what if they don't prove to be compatible with the human race, what then? Do we destroy them? I don't know. I'd rather not think about that.
  • Eugene Scott: Well, somebody better start thinking about it.
  • Jody Scott: I didn't have time to pack anything. I didn't even bring anything to sleep in.
  • Eugene Scott: Hey that's great.
  • Jody Scott: That's terrific
  • [Eugene starts to massage and kiss her]
  • Eugene Scott: Gee, I really missed you. I really did miss you a lot, you know?
  • Jody Scott: Oh, Gene, just, here, wait it hurts.
  • Eugene Scott: What, hurts?
  • Jody Scott: Yes! I just want to wash and I want to take a shower.
  • Eugene Scott: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
  • Jody Scott: No, it's okay.
  • Eugene Scott: You don't like the way I touch you anymore, do you?
  • Jody Scott: Well, it's too soon to do anything...
  • Eugene Scott: I don't want to do anything! I just wanted to hold you.
  • Jody Scott: I can't.
  • Eugene Scott: Make you feel sick when I touch you now? Does it make you feel sick because of what we created? Is that what you think?
  • Jody Scott: No.
  • Eugene Scott: Huh?
  • Jody Scott: I don't know. I just don't want to be held, okay? I thought that I would, when I was coming here, I was very excited. I couldn't wait to be here, but now I just don't. I don't want to be held. I don't know what to say! I don't want to shout.
  • Eugene Scott: IT'S ALL RIGHT! Shut up! It's okay, we got two beds!
  • Jody Scott: I wanted things to be like they were, the same, but it just isn't, okay? It isn't the same!
  • Eugene Scott: It can't be the same. We're not going to be the same people anymore!
  • Det. Lt. Perkins: That window's some kind of a signal.
  • Cop: They would have phoned.
  • Det. Lt. Perkins: If you were afraid of something getting into the house, would you leave the window open in the middle of the night?
  • Eugene Scott: It's from Dr Fairchild. He's you know charging us for the delivery!
  • Jody Scott: He's what?
  • Eugene Scott: Yeah. And if we don't pay him, I bet you he'll sue us and collect, and destroy our credit too.
  • Jody Scott: Let me see it.
  • Eugene Scott: I don't believe it.
  • Eugene Scott: Lima beans, Chunky soup, eh, and cranberry sauce. Hey maybe we'll be here till Thanksgiving, huh? Meat-flavored.
