Godfrey Cambridge was selected to the play the role of General Idi Amin Dada Oumee, but died on the set from a heart attack early in the filming. Julius Harris took over the part.
Burt Lancaster plays statesman (and future two-time Prime Minister) Shimon Peres, Peres is a distant cousin of Lauren Bacall, who was also Lancaster's friend.
