"Mosquito the Rapist" is a gross, creepy and disturbing horror film that truly has to be seen to be believed. This strange necrophilia shocker offers few haunting moments and contains truly eerie mood throughout.Werner Pochath plays a nameless deaf mute accountant, who is still recovering from horrific child abuse. He has a weird fixation with blood spilling across his skin. One night he breaks into the local mortuary and ravages really pretty female corpse. Now addicted,he raids the tombs of the dead and drinks blood from their throats via a glass straw. This seriously twisted and perverse piece of sleazy horror was apparently a major influence on Jorg Buttgereit's "Nekromantik".There is some gore and plenty of sleaze,so fans of exploitation cinema won't be disappointed.Unfortunately this obscure gem is rather hard to find, but if you get a chance watch it.9 out of 10.
Pochtath is excellent in this incredible, spooky feature with similarities to the more famous MARTIN (made around the same time). The image of him sucking blood from a corpse with a glass straw is unforgettable. It doesn't matter that some of the FX look hokey and the english dubbed version has awkward dialogue, this is one of a kind and should be required viewing for all horror fans.Incidentally,Pochtath can also be spotted briefly in Dario Argento's THE CAT O' NINE TAILS.
"Mosquito" is one of the most original horror films from the seventies. Quite possibly the most disturbing romantic horror film you'll come across from this period.
Loosely based on a real case, this film deals with a traumatized young man (Werner Pochath), who in his childhood became deaf and dumb after having been beaten by his own father. Excluded from close human contact, he seeks company in the local graveyard. Still, he has secret feelings for the girl (Birgit Zamulo) next door, who also seems to live inside her own different world.
With gorgeous photography, an "out of this world" soundtrack by maestro Dafydd Llywelyn, and exceptional acting by Werner Pochath - this is a film to remember. Still, we need a better commercial release of it, than what's out on the market (the German DVD was OK, but could have been a lot better, and it's out of print anyway).

Poor old Mosquito (Werner Pochath) should sue for defamation of character: he might have a weird fetish for dolls, drink the blood of dead women through a glass straw, gouge out their eyeballs, hack off their heads, and eventually become a fully fledged psycho killer, but he's definitely not a rapist. Such malicious slander could seriously ruin a person's reputation!
An obscure horror offering from, of all places, Switzerland, director Marijan David Vajda's Mosquito the Rapist has garnered generally positive reviews here on IMDb for being a bold, surreal and lurid piece of sleaze that isn't afraid to push the boundaries of taste; while I cannot deny that the film is both groundbreaking and extremely exploitative, I just didn't enjoy it that much myself, finding it incredibly dreary for the most part despite all the nastiness. Even with a bit of gratuitous lesbian action from a couple of hookers thrown in for good measure, the slow as molasses pace throughout had me struggling to keep my eyes open (the only exception being the kiddie fiddling scene, which is a real eye-opener and genuinely unsettling—considering the tender age of the girl involved, I'm surprised this shocking moment has been allowed to remain intact!

Apparently there are more export products coming from Switzerland than just fancy watches, pocketknives and cuckoo clocks! For instance this harrowing and severely devastating exploitation gem, which undoubtedly WILL affect you in some way. Superficially, "Mosquito The Rapist" appears to be another load of sick-spirited & extreme 70's trash, but if you make the effort to observe the film closer, you'll discover that it's actually an intense and tragic drama rather than just euro-smut. Werner Pochath portrays an anonymous deaf-mute man in his early twenties, working as an accountant and living in a ramshackle studio that he decorated with uncanny dolls. Flashbacks show that his father was very abusive and he regularly witnessed how his little sister was sexually assaulted, so naturally he carries a truckload of childhood traumas with him. He keeps his perverted "desires" under control by regularly breaking into morgues and mutilating girls' corpses as well as slurping their blood through a homemade glass straw. This particular device has two little points at the end, which makes it look like vampire's teeth. When his secret love-interest (a hippie-girl that lives in his building) tragically dies, the mutilations become far more sadistic and he eventually turns to brutal murder. The scenes showing "Mosquito" inside the morgues are quite repulsive. He pokes out the eyes of corpses, cuts open their torsos and sucks their blood while lying on top of them. Yet, even more impressive is the constantly grim & disturbing atmosphere director Marijan Vadja manages to sustain! This boy's entire existence is so sad and so depressing that you simply can't bring yourself to fully abominate him. It's probably the only film I've seen in my whole life where I felt compassionate for a depraved pervert. There's a minimum of dialogue, but tons of saddening music and unpleasant images of a pauperized society. These are all aspects that emphasize the dramatic themes of the film and NOT the exploitative sleaze & violence. "Mosquito The Rapist" is also a shockingly well-made and even stylish film! The camera-work and editing are competently handled and even the acting performances are adequate. Those who're expecting a cheap, bottom-of-the-barrel exploitation flick will surely be (pleasantly?) surprised. You can always raise questions regarding what's the point of making such a movie and/or what the added cinematic value is. Of course, there's none
But still this shouldn't keep fans of cult films from purchasing this obscure baby! It's at least a dozen times better than it looks!
