In some copies of the video, the narration switches from Greer Garson to Paul Frees. At the very end, where the Greer Garson narration begins "and as Aaron looked at the babe..." the voice is that of Paul Frees. This mistake is due to the fact that when restoring the film in 1998 for its 30th anniversary, it was found that the original master 35mm elements for the film were lost. As such, 16mm B-roll footage had to be used instead. Although the sound quality was improved, a majority of the sound effects were lost and a crucial piece of narration by Greer Garson was mistakenly replaced by a scratch track of Paul Frees voicing the line.

When Aaron approaches the manger with baby Jesus, in the next shot the dying lamb, which was lying in front of one of the Kings, has disappeared.

Despite being a children's animated special placed in Roman Judaea, there seems only a few geographical errors or anachronisms. Mary, the mother of Jesus, looks quite Nordic here, while King Melchior wears decidedly Elizabethan finery. A "gator" (alligator) is mentioned in the song "Why Can't the Animals Smile", though that could be stretched as referencing a Chinese alligator. The song also mentions a caribou.

Jose Ferrer (as Ben Haramed) pronounces the character's last name as Huh-Rom-Ed in an earlier scene and then in a later scene pronounces it as Hair-A-Med.
