Generation Alpha is on its way to inheriting the Earth as Scholastic teams with Invisible Narratives to bring stories based on the animated phenomenon Skibidi Toilet stories to young readers. Skibidi Toilet began as a single video by Alexey Gerasimov, aka Boom!, that took off in 2023 and quickly evolved into a zeitgeist-defining digital series. In the series, an alien species of mechanized toilet hybrids known as Skibidi Toilets is bent on eradicating humanity, which is being defended by humanoid warriors with cameras, speakers, and TV screens for heads.

Jennifer's Body has surprisingly found an unlikely spiritual successor fifteen years later in a new comic series: The Creeping Below. When Karyn Kusama and Diablo Cody's horror comedy, Jennifer's Body, hit theaters in 2009, the film received a pretty mixed reception. The film has since gained a cult following despite its bad Rotten Tomatoes score, and now a new horror comic is playing with its original concept to tell a new story.

The Creeping Below by Brian Azzarello and Vanesa R. Del Rey is a new horror series published by Boom! Studios that follows a woman named Val who attends a music festival in Oslo, Norway. She's described as a person who loves hardcore metal music, which leads her to a performance by a local group.

The author is still recovering from New York Comic-Con, where he and his eight-person company, Tiny Onion, which is backed by Lyrical Media, had a major presence. He is the rare comic author that has books across all the major publishers save Marvel, almost all creator-owned. There’s also a Substack newsletter. And a fledgling media division that seeks to catapult those books into various mediums.

Tynion made his name writing Batman for DC, striking out on his own while the proverbial iron was hot.

‘Dune’ and ‘Mission: Impossible’s’ Rebecca Ferguson has been set to join the cast of the Enid Blyton adaptation ‘The Magic Faraway Tree.’

Ferguson will play the story’s terrifying headmistress, Dame Snap, one of Blyton’s most iconic villains.

Ferguson joins the cast which, as previously announced, includes two-time Academy Award-nominee, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Tony Winner Andrew Garfield and Golden Globe and two-time Emmy Award-winner Claire Foy. Also previously announced cast are Jennifer Saunders as the kids’ ruthless Grandma, Nicola Coughlan who is cast as the beloved woodland fairy Silky, and British icons Sirs Lenny Henry, Michael Palin and Simon Russell Beale.

Based on The Faraway Tree series of novels for children, the story follows Polly and Tim Thompson and their children, Beth, Joe and Fran, who find themselves forced to relocate to the remote English countryside. There, the children discover a magical tree and its extraordinary and eccentric occupants.

Rebecca Ferguson has signed on to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree.

Ferguson has joined the cast in the role of Dame Snap, the story’s terrifying headmistress.

The film is currently shooting in England at Shinfield Studios. Adapted by BAFTA Award-winner Simon Farnaby, the movie is directed by Ben Gregor.

The film is produced by Academy Award-nominee Pippa Harris and Nicolas Brown of Neal Street Productions, along with Danny Perkins (Greatest Days) of Elysian Film Group, and Jane Hooks. Executive Producers include Ashland Hill Media Finance’s Simon Williams, Joe Simpson, Jonathan Bross, and Palisades Park Pictures’ Tamara Birkemoe.

Ashland Hill Media Finance is fully financing The Magic Faraway Tree. Palisades Park Pictures is handling worldwide sales, with CAA Media Finance co-repping US rights.

The Shade, a supernatural horror film starring Chris Galust and Tony Award-winner Laura Benanti, has been acquired for North American distribution by Level 33 Entertainment. A family finds themselves dealing with more than grief in the new, exclusive trailer.

Writer/Director Tyler Chipman’s feature debut will have an exclusive theatrical release on several hundred screens in the U.S. and Canada this Fall ahead of its release across all digital platforms.

Look for the film to arrive in theaters on September 20, 2024.

The first short, created by Alexey Gerasimov on his YouTube channel DaFuq!?Boom! premiered in February 2023 and ended up going viral and becoming a meme, currently boasting 41 million views on YouTube.

Penguin Random House is set to acquire comic book and graphic novel publisher Boom! Studios.

The publishing house announced Wednesday that Random House Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House, has agreed to the deal for Boom! Studios, which was founded in 2005 by Ross Richie and Andrew Cosby. The deal is expected to close later this summer, and terms were not disclosed. As part of the transaction, Disney is selling its minority stake in Boom! Studios that 20th Century Fox acquired in 2017.

Boom! Studios will continue its editorial and publishing independence and will report to Random House Worlds president Scott Shannon, while Random House Worlds vp publisher Keith Clayton and Random House Publishing Group executive vp of business strategy Bill Takes will help manage the new imprint. Also part of Random House Worlds’ portfolio of imprints are Del Rey, Inklore and the Rh Worlds licensing program.

Something is Killing the Children's spin-off series House of Slaughter is receiving an artistic new edition from Boom! Studios. The upcoming Pen & Ink edition will follow the steps of previous special edition publications of other comics from the publisher. This deluxe format is a must-have for fans of the series.

House of Slaughter began publishing in October 2021. It currently spans nineteen issues with more to come in the next few months. The Pen and Ink edition is slated to release in January 2024.

The series has served as a prequel to Something is Killing the Children, expanding on the House of Slaughter organization that eliminates monster threats. The spin-off series has the creative team of James Tynion IV, Tate Brombal, Chris Shehan, Miquel Muerto, and AndWorld Design.

The BAFTA Children and Young People Awards have been rebranded and will be incorporated into the annual film, games and television ceremonies.

The org’s support for the children’s media industry and its year-round learning programs will now take place under a new brand, Young BAFTA. New categories for children’s content will be introduced to BAFTA’s film, games and television Awards in 2025. This initiative will be steered by a new cross-industry Young BAFTA advisory group.

“The move to present children’s awards in the annual film, games and television BAFTAs is an evolution of the former Children and Young People awards ceremony which has seen a consistent drop in entries and engagement in recent years. The ceremony last took place in November 2022 after a two-year pause,” BAFTA said in a statement.

The main MrBeast channel sits at the front of the U.S. Top 50 for the second week in a row. Jimmy Donaldson has achieved consistent growth by adhering to a consistent schedule for his spectacular long-form uploads.

Lin-Manuel Miranda reportedly has set his sights on his next musical for the stage. The multiple Tony and Grammy award winner is adapting a stage musical version of The Warriors, based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel that was later turned into the 1979 action thriller film directed by Walter Hill, according to the New York Post‘s Johnny Oleksinski.

The project would be Miranda’s first full stage musical since his global phenom Hamilton, winner of 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, in 2016..

The Warriors is a familiar setting for New York City native Miranda. The film centers on a fictitious New York City street gang who must travel 30 miles, from the north end of the Bronx to their home turf in Coney Island in southern Brooklyn, after they are framed for the murder of a respected gang leader.

Studios' Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers ongoing series, one that could play right into the hands of a classic villain. Matthew Cook, the new Green Ranger, could be the perfect fit for Yellow Ranger Aisha, but the machinations of a returning Rita Repulsa, now known as Mistress Vile, could mean a bittersweet end for the pair.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers #109, written by Melissa Flores – with art by Simona Di Gianfelice, color by Raul Angulo and Jose Enrique Fernandez, and lettering by Ed Dukeshire – features the return of Green Ranger Matthew following his kidnapping in issue #102. Brainwashed by Mistress Vile into attacking his teammates, Matthew and the Yellow Ranger, Aisha, have a moment during the fight that makes her feelings for him evident.

Disney's Chronicles of Narnia franchise has some big names attached to it, but the series could have been full of bankable actors and A-list stars had history unfolded differently. The Chronicles of Narnia series is based on C.S. Lewis' fantasy novels of the same name. While the series is composed of seven books, only three of them were adapted by Disney: 2005's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; 2008's Prince Caspian; and 2010's The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. With each movie came less success, leading Disney to give up on the franchise.

However, the series still has the potential to be the next Harry Potter-level fantasy movie franchise, even if Disney's Chronicles of Narnia films failed. In June 2023, 80 of the 100 most-watched U.S.-based YouTube channels operated primarily on Shorts. But the leaders of the pack were channels that were able to offer both short-form and long-form clips.

YouTube must be happy: The multiformat approach it has preached is showing results.

For the #1 channel in the U.S. Top 100, the multiformat label is a bit misleading. DaFuq!?Boom! has added long-form content to its mix after breaking out on Shorts, but most of those one-minute-plus clips are compilations of its shorter stuff. No matter what format DaFuq!?Boom! uses, it focuses on one meme in particular: Skibidi Toilet.

This fall, a new Firefly miniseries returns the franchise to its space Western roots. The show was conceived as a “space Western,” telling stories of outlaws and other outcasts on the frontier of a distant solar system. These themes resonated with fans, and helped the show grow into a bona fide cult classic despite only airing a handful of episodes. Now, Boom! Studios is taking Firefly back to its roots in The Fall Guys!

Boom! has revealed more details of the new book, which will be written by Sam Humphries, drawn by Jordi Perez and colored by Francesco Segala. Titled Firefly: The Fall Guys, the six-issue limited series stars the show’s original crew and while it is not stated, it is implied to take place before the events of Serenity. The latest U.S. Top 50 shows just how far the YouTube “metagame” has shifted over the past year.

This time last year, a kid-friendly channel was dominating our U.S. chart, and other long-form family hubs were right behind it. Now, that channel is the only long-form content provider left in the U.S. top five.

One of the best parts about the NCIS franchise is its characters. Over 20 seasons, there has been plenty of cast turnover, but the series has always found a way to keep its characters interesting and identifiable. NCIS: Hawai'i started with the same knack for great characters, and luckily, its cast has stayed intact for Seasons 1 and 2. For instance, Jessie Boone just had his Tony Dinozzo moment, and the "Kacy" relationship is as strong as ever. Even with that, many fans think that Ernie Malik is NCIS: Hawai'i's best character.

Ernie is NCIS: Hawai'i's resident computer geek. Anytime the team needs something technological, Ernie is always on top of it because he's an expert in coding and forensic analysis. Because of that, it's never a surprise when Ernie is the one who breaks a case wide open.

Exclusive: Keshet Studios, the U.S. division of the Israeli media company behind scripted series including NBC’s La Brea, is moving into unscripted.

The company has hired Banijay Studios North America executives Rebecca Mayer and Benjamin Long to lead this push.

Mayer joins as EVP of Unscripted and Benjamin Long as VP of Unscripted. They are tasked with expanding the company’s unscripted footprint in the States and mining Keshet International’s catalog of international IP as well as creating new projects.

On the non-scripted side, Keshet was responsible for ABC’s Rising Star, which quickly clocked up a slew of international format deals back in 2014, as well as game show Boom! and 2025. On the scripted side, the company also produces Apple’s Echo 3 and Nat Geo/Disney+ series A Small Light.

Based in Los Angeles, Mayer will report to Peter Traugott, President of Keshet Studios, with Long reporting into Mayer.
