The 10 Best Streaming Services Ranked
Image
"Have you seen the new show?" goes the classic Tumblr post. "It's on Tubu. It's literally on Heebee. It's on Poodee with ads. It's literally on Dippy. You can probably find it on Weeno. Dude it's on Gumpy. It's a Pheebo original. It's on Poob. You can watch it on Poob." The meme goes on like that for a while, and it's one of the seminal texts of our age, expertly satirizing the seemingly-infinite number of streaming services that feel like they're overwhelming us with choices. At the same time, a lot of them seem oddly empty, offering buzz-less originals no one's ever heard of and paltry historical libraries filled with movies you probably have no interest in watching.

Yes, these days, keeping up with pop culture requires subscribing to an astonishing number of services with increasingly-nonsensical names. Is it worth signing up just to watch the one show everyone's talking about this week?...

Netflix at the Oscars: How Many Nominations and Wins Does The Streamer Have?
Image
Pictures: Netflix

After a very intense and controversial Oscars season, Netflix scooped up three awards at the 2025 97th Academy Awards. That brings Netflix’s total Oscar count up to 26 statues. Here’s a full breakdown of Netflix’s past efforts at the Academy Awards and the full list of 73 nominated titles.

Netflix takes the Oscars seriously. They continue to have a massive team working on awards campaigning. Insider reported in 2022 that Netflix had a 40-person awards operation along with 15 consultants who spread their time working on campaigns for Emmys and, of course, the Oscars. Despite that massive spending and resource allocation, it’s still yet to win some of the biggest prizes of the night when some of its close rivals have. Apple TV+ notably scored Best Picture at the 2022 Oscars, and Prime Video has scooped some top awards, too.

As of 2025, Netflix has still eluded a few big awards,...

Jennifer's Body Has Found a Spiritual Successor In a New Horror Series You Should Pick Up Asap
Image
Jennifer's Body has surprisingly found an unlikely spiritual successor fifteen years later in a new comic series: The Creeping Below. When Karyn Kusama and Diablo Cody's horror comedy, Jennifer's Body, hit theaters in 2009, the film received a pretty mixed reception. The film has since gained a cult following despite its bad Rotten Tomatoes score, and now a new horror comic is playing with its original concept to tell a new story.

The Creeping Below by Brian Azzarello and Vanesa R. Del Rey is a new horror series published by Boom! Studios that follows a woman named Val who attends a music festival in Oslo, Norway. She's described as a person who loves hardcore metal music, which leads her to a performance by a local group.

When she's offered the chance to meet with them, she takes the opportunity - only to realize that it was a dreadful mistake. The...

How James Tynion IV Launched the Biggest Horror Comic Title In the Business
Image
It’s Halloween and the highest-selling comics author of the decade, including the biggest horror title in the business, is going to stay in his Brooklyn apartment and watch some movies.

Oh, sure, there may be some friends over, but James Tynion IV is trying to keep it low-key, with 1980s flicks The Monster Squad, Return of the Living Dead, and Re-Animator on the home marquee. The author is still recovering from New York Comic-Con, where he and his eight-person company, Tiny Onion, which is backed by Lyrical Media, had a major presence. He is the rare comic author that has books across all the major publishers save Marvel, almost all creator-owned. There’s also a Substack newsletter. And a fledgling media division that seeks to catapult those books into various mediums.

Tynion made his name writing Batman for DC, striking out on his own while the proverbial iron was hot.

Jamie Dornan Hates How Andrew Garfield is Naturally Good at Everything After He Beat a Stunt Double: ‘It’s really annoying’
Image
Andrew Garfield is one of the most desirable men in Hollywood whose talents know no bounds and Jamie Dornan knows this all too well. Whether he is swinging through the streets as the amazing Spider-Man or making us absolutely bawl as We Live in Time‘s Tobias, the actor really knows how to make a lasting impression in people’s lives.

A still from We Live in Time | Credits: Film4

However, if the multiverse is real, then there is probably a universe where Andrew Garfield never tried his hand at acting and ended up becoming a fantastic athlete instead. He always had a special talent when it came to sports and while it’s absolutely impressive, Jamie Dornan couldn’t help but get a little annoyed with it all.

Richard Kind's 10 Best Movies & TV Shows
Image
Richard Kind's best movies and TV shows reveal that this incomparable character actor has found his niche working with some of the best filmmakers in the world - and in an impressive range of roles. Kind got his start in the entertainment industry when he worked with The Second City in Chicago, a group with alums like John Belushi, Bill Murray, Jordan Peele, and Amy Poehler. This start led to his eventual big break when he got a role in the Paul Reiser/Helen Hunt sitcom Mad About You and then, shortly after that, Spin City.

While Kind had his biggest success on television, with more roles in Curb Your Enthusiasm, Stargate Atlantis, and Scrubs, he has also developed a substantial list of movie roles. However, most have been in supporting and minor roles. He has worked with directors like Roland Emmerich, George Clooney, Christopher Guest, and The Coen...

10 Things a Power Rangers Reboot Needs to Steal From Its Most Underrated Adaptation
Image
Power Rangers currently exists in a state of limbo, as no new series or movies are currently in production. While it was announced that the franchise would be receiving a Netflix reboot, one that would refrain from using Super Sentai footage, this project has been canceled. The Power Rangers comics from Boom! Studios are also drawing to a close after running since 2016, but while they're ending, they may be exactly the source the next series or movie should steal from.

The Boom! Studios' Power Rangers comics have introduced a number of ways to energize fan interest in the Mighty Morphin' team. Expanding on the source material and bringing in countless new concepts and characters, older fans have engrossed themselves in these stories for nearly a decade. Power Rangers Is Preparing to Redeem Rita Repulsa as the Mystic Mother - Theory Explained
Image
Boom! Studios' Power Rangers comics have made some striking divergences from the franchise's television canon; the possible introduction of Mystic Mother, the pure good form of Rita Repulsa, would be one of their most significant remixes of the series' lore yet. Rita's redemption arc, as she contemplates her future, could lead to a significant departure from her TV counterpart's transformation, which occurred when the "Z-Wave" wiped all traces of evil from the universe. Rita's evolution into Mystic Mother may be inevitable, especially as she distances herself from her villainous past and aligns with the Rangers, though in a way, her transformation will be more impactful because she is making the decision herself.

Warning: Spoilers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #118!

Rita Repulsa's final form, the Mystic Mother, may be making its way into the Power Rangers comics. Ever since acquiring the rights to the franchise, and undertaking an ambitious comic book reimagining,...

Iconic ‘Sex and the City’ Costume, Princess Diana Dress To Hit Auction Block (Exclusive)

Every Sex and the City fan will instantly recognize two high-wattage looks up for sale in the latest event presented by Julien’s Auctions — one piece worn onscreen by series star and executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker — as they’ve transcended the function of costumes or fashion to become part of the show’s enduring iconography.

“Unstoppable: Signature Styles of Iconic Women in Fashion” is indeed an apt title for an upcoming auction that includes the three-tiered belted tutu skirt worn by Parker in Satc‘s opening credits (and again in the 2008 movie). The skirt was famously purchased by the show’s costume designer, Patricia Field, who discovered the piece in a $5 bargain bin and fashioned it into one of the most-recognized looks in the series.

Designer Antonio Marras Remakes Elizabeth Taylor’s Boom! On the Runway at Milan Fashion Week
Image
Antonio Marras’ catwalk transformed into a set where he shot a remake of a 1968 Hollywood movie. During Milan Fashion Week on Sept. 20, the Sardinian fashion designer set up an onstage film studio, with various rooms in which actors, actresses, workers, divas, a production secretary, costume designer, editing secretary, personal assistant, seamstress, director, producer, set coordinator, clapboard operator, sound engineer, extras, models and aspiring actresses took turns in the spotlight. In a flash, the audience found itself catapulted to the end of the golden years of cinema, amid fleeting and rambling kaftans, couture gowns, robes, tailored suits cinched at the waist with masculine styles, duster coats, sheath dresses, and dramatic and divine evening gowns.

The entire show was pulled together to recreate the atmosphere of Joseph Losey’s film Boom!, translated into Italian when it was released as The Cliff of Desires. Tennessee Williams adapted the screenplay from his own stage script,...

Lin-Manuel Miranda To Adapt ‘The Warriors’ As Stage Musical — Report
Michael Beck, David Harris, Tom McKitterick, Terry Michos, Marcelino Sánchez, Brian Tyler, and Deborah Van Valkenburgh in Die Warriors (1979)
Lin-Manuel Miranda reportedly has set his sights on his next musical for the stage. The multiple Tony and Grammy award winner is adapting a stage musical version of The Warriors, based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel that was later turned into the 1979 action thriller film directed by Walter Hill, according to the New York Post‘s Johnny Oleksinski.

Andrew Garfield As Caspian & 9 Other Failed Castings In Disney’s Chronicles Of Narnia Movies
Image
Disney's Chronicles of Narnia franchise has some big names attached to it, but the series could have been full of bankable actors and A-list stars had history unfolded differently. The Chronicles of Narnia series is based on C.S. Lewis' fantasy novels of the same name. While the series is composed of seven books, only three of them were adapted by Disney: 2005's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; 2008's Prince Caspian; and 2010's The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. With each movie came less success, leading Disney to give up on the franchise.

However, the series still has the potential to be the next Harry Potter-level fantasy movie franchise, even if Disney's Chronicles of Narnia films failed. Netflix now owns the rights to the books, and at least two of the adaptations will be directed by Lady Bird and Barbie director Greta Gerwig. Netflix's new Narnia movies could...

In June 2023, 80 of the 100 most-watched U.S.-based YouTube channels operated primarily on Shorts. But the leaders of the pack were channels that were able to offer both short-form and long-form clips.

YouTube must be happy: The multiformat approach it has preached is showing results.

Chart Toppers

For the #1 channel in the U.S. Top 100, the multiformat label is a bit misleading. DaFuq!?Boom! has added long-form content to its mix after breaking out on Shorts, but most of those one-minute-plus clips are compilations of its shorter stuff. No matter what format DaFuq!?Boom! uses, it focuses on one meme in particular: Skibidi Toilet.

Image
This fall, a new Firefly miniseries returns the franchise to its space Western roots. The show was conceived as a “space Western,” telling stories of outlaws and other outcasts on the frontier of a distant solar system. These themes resonated with fans, and helped the show grow into a bona fide cult classic despite only airing a handful of episodes. Now, Boom! Studios is taking Firefly back to its roots in The Fall Guys!

Boom! has revealed more details of the new book, which will be written by Sam Humphries, drawn by Jordi Perez and colored by Francesco Segala. Titled Firefly: The Fall Guys, the six-issue limited series stars the show’s original crew and while it is not stated, it is implied to take place before the events of Serenity. Image
With the Street Fighter franchise getting a new live-action movie, chances are we will soon see a new incarnation of the fan favorite Guile on the big screen. In the original Street Fighter film, released in 1994, Jean-Claude Van Damme played the role of Guile, a United States Air Force major known for his military garb and tall blonde hair. The character was not featured in the 2009 reboot, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, though he continues to appear in the video games and has been consistently featured in the various animated Street Fighter adaptations.

With Guile likely coming to the next Street Fighter reboot, this one in the works from Legendary Entertainment, fans may be wondering who will be the next actor to play the master of the Sonic Boom. NCIS: Hawai'i Is Turing Ernie Malik into More Than a Computer Guy
Image
The following contains spoilers for NCIS: Hawai'i Season 2, Episode 19, "Cabin Fever," which premiered May 2, on CBS.

One of the best parts about the NCIS franchise is its characters. Over 20 seasons, there has been plenty of cast turnover, but the series has always found a way to keep its characters interesting and identifiable. NCIS: Hawai'i started with the same knack for great characters, and luckily, its cast has stayed intact for Seasons 1 and 2. For instance, Jessie Boone just had his Tony Dinozzo moment, and the "Kacy" relationship is as strong as ever. Even with that, many fans think that Ernie Malik is NCIS: Hawai'i's best character.

Ernie is NCIS: Hawai'i's resident computer geek. Anytime the team needs something technological, Ernie is always on top of it because he's an expert in coding and forensic analysis. Because of that, it's never a surprise when Ernie is the one who breaks a case wide open.

'Theater Camp': Cast, Release, Date, Plot, and Everything We Know So Far
Image
It’s been a pretty great couple of years for theater kids. Some of the most popular musicals and plays have been adapted for the screen, including West Side Story, Tick, Tick… Boom, and Matilda: the Musical. The stories they love are no longer fringe interests, but material everyone can easily access and enjoy. This mainstream attention, however, has not yet translated into a spotlight on theater culture itself. This year’s Sundance Film Festival showcased a movie that will end that trend. Starring some of the most iconic names in young Hollywood and New York theater, Theater Camp is a comedy that competently sinks its teeth into a subject it knows all too well. For any theater kid who can’t wait to see this story of passion and folly, here’s everything we know about how, when, and where you can watch this acclaimed film.

‘The New Americans: Gaming a Revolution’ Review: A Heady Documentary Looks at How Stock Trading Turned Into a ‘Rebellious’ Addiction
Image
In the history of casual comments that sound like they could mark the end of civilization, there’s a staggering contender in “The New Americans: Gaming a Revolution” — all the more so because it comes from an investor who sounds reasonably intelligent. The movie, the latest documentary provocation written and directed by Ondi Timoner, is about the new era of lone stock traders — many, though not all of them, millennials — who grew up playing video games and now experience investing at home as a literal extension of that thrill-a-minute world. The new trading apps, designed as visual candy, are meant to give you the rush that gamers get (and also the high that people seek out from slot machines). Trying to sum up the lizard-brain appeal of it all, an investor named Mitchell Hennessey explains, “Even if you lose on the trade, confetti pops up, and it almost feels like you’re leveling up.
