Designs on Jerry recycled.

Tom is watching home movies of his past encounters with Jerry, noting down exactly where he went wrong in order to help him design the perfect mousetrap.

Shutter Bugged Cat deserves the lowest possible rating for trying to pass off a scene from Designs On Jerry (1955) as something new, as if Tom and Jerry fans wouldn't notice. Even those not familiar with the '50s classic will surely notice the vast difference in quality between the pilfered footage and the less detailed newer animation.

You can see the evolution of Tom's depiction, from a realistic cat with lots of whiskers and fine, plump paws, to the more modern version. The same is true for Jerry, as well as the background artwork, which changes over time from postwar classic to mid century abstract.

The boards covering the mouse hole vary in size between shots and disappear completely when Tom sets up his elaborate trap to try to catch Jerry. Update: Just before the final step in the trap - hanging the cheese lure - Tom is seen with a crowbar prying at the boards covering Jerry's hole. Then the view shifts to Jerry inside the hole, then the view shifts to Tom hanging the cheese. Therefore, Tom pried the boards off before hanging the cheese.
