Tony Curtis and George C. Scott, who play servicemen in the Air Force, both served in the Armed Forces during WWII before entering show business, but unlike their characters, Curtis was in the Navy and Scott was in the Marines.
Tom Ferris (Tony Curtis) utters the phrase "Arrividerci Mondo", which also is the title of the fictional film that Julietta watches. Curtis appeared in Arrivederci, Baby! (1966), aka "Arrividerci, Baby", which was released a couple of months after this film.
The old Hays production code was just about DOA by this era. Still, the wonderfully over-the-top Italian cinematic parody scene ends as the code would have demanded, with the demise of all the guilty parties.
The glamorous NATO military opulence celebrated here was at its height in films of the era. The next few years would bring the conflict in Southeast Asia sharply into the public eye, and military-themed films would become more serious and even satirical.
By the large patch on the front of their jackets, Tom and Tank were members of the 334th Fighter Squadron in Korea. As of 2024, that is still an active unit of the U.S. Air Force. The pair are depicted as flying the North American F-86 Sabre fighter jet.
