The teaser trailer for the new Peacock series The Day of the Jackal premiered during NBC’s and Peacock’s coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony. The trailer is now online for audiences to view. The concept is a reimagining of the 1973 film adaptation from Universal Pictures. In The Day of the Jackal, Redmayne plays the Jackal, a professional assassin hired by a French paramilitary dissident to kill French President Charles de Gaulle in 1962. The new series stars Eddie Redmayne, Lashana Lynch and Úrsula Corberó.

Prime Video is the place to be in August with an incredible month of new releases. The month kicks off with the premiere of the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader on Aug. 1. The series was produced by J.J. Abrams and The Batman‘s Matt Reeves. We also return to Middle Earth this month with the premiere of The Rings of Power season 2 on Aug. 29.

As far as movies go, the Amazon original Jackpot! arrives on Aug. 15 starring Awkwafina and John Cena. This comedy is set in a world where Lottery winners have to survive until sundown in order to claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot – anyone who kills them before that gets to claim their prize.

The Hobbit trilogy also joins the Prime Video library this month, as do 21 and 22 Jump Street, Superman I-iv, Superman Returns, Night Swim, Drive Away Dolls, and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

A new trailer has arrived for the powerful, evocative and moving, ‘Reawakening,’ the second feature from BAFTA-nominated writer-director Virginia Gilbert.

Dana Strong, CEO of Comcast-owned Sky Group has promised customers of the U.K. media conglomerate will continue to receive Warner Bros Discovery content on Sky platforms, saying that discussions with the studio to extend their content agreement are ongoing.

“We’ve been a partner with Warner for a very long time,” said Strong, adding that they’re “in conversation” about the future of their deal.

The deal, which primarily covers HBO content such as “Succession” and “And Just Like That,” is set to expire next year. Given the rise of studio-owned streamers, at the beginning of the multi-year output deal it seemed it would be unlikely to be renewed, with Wbd focusing on funnelling exclusive content to its own streaming offering Max.

Comcast-owned European pay-tv, media and telecom giant Sky has made a full-court press to lock down sports rights longer-term due to the benefits of sports content, CEO Dana Strong told a London conference on Tuesday.

During a fireside chat at Deloitte’s Media & Telecoms 2024 and Beyond Conference, she was asked about Sky’s sports strategy. “I am pretty passionate about sport,” and Sky has “extraordinary strength” in the field, she said.

About 18-24 months ago, “we really decided to double down and go long on sport,” Strong shared. That has helped build “a strategic moat” around sports, she said. “Sport matters because it is resilient,” more so than other forms of linear TV. It matters to consumers and communities, she added.

Snook will star in and executive produce Peacock’s upcoming suburban thriller series All Her Fault in the lead role of “Marissa.” Megan Gallagher serves as writer, creator and executive producer of the project adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Andrea Mara.

Marissa Irvine arrives at 14 Arthur Avenue, expecting to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate with a boy at his new school. Minkie Spiro is set to direct the first episode, among others and executive produce. EPs also include Nigel Marchant, Gareth Neame and Joanna Strevens for Carnival Films, Jennifer Gabler Rawlings and Christine A. UCP is developing 1313, which has been described as a horror series that plays on the Universal Monsterverse, aka a reimagining of the classic 1964-66 CBS sitcom The Munsters.

Lindsey Anderson Beer is set to showrun the drama. The project is being developed by James Wan, Beer and Ingrid Bisu for UCP. Atomic Monster and Lab Brew are the production companies.

Executive producers are Beer and Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Bisu is a co-exec producer.

As buyers touch down at Lax for the annual LA Screenings, it will be a case of a return to the norm following the unusual circumstances of last year. The Hollywood labor strikes not only threw confusion on what would be a realistic purchase, but also stopped acquisitions executives getting face time (and a quick selfie) with acting and writing talent — something many value as part of their buying process.

There will be no such issues this year, and the studio sales bosses are relishing a return to the norm. “We’re really excited, it feels like we’re really back after the strikes and firing on all cylinders,” says David Decker, President of Content Sales for Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd). “We have an abundance of titles that run the gamut of broadcast and streaming in drama and comedy. We’ll be showing the best of what Wbd stands for.

Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios’ crime thriller Play Dirty has four new additions: Keegan-Michael Key (Wonka), Nat Wolff (Which Brings Me to You), Chukwudi Iwuji (The Day of the Jackal), and Thomas Jane (Troppo).

As previously announced, Mark Wahlberg leads the ensemble, with Lakeith Stanfield, Rosa Salazar, and Tony Shalhoub also set for roles. No word on the roles the new cast members will be playing.

Directed by Shane Black, Play Dirty is the first project based on Donald E. Westlake’s Parker novels, written under the pseudonym Richard Stark, to emerge from a pact between Amazon MGM and Team Downey in 2022. The film centers on Wahlberg’s professional thief, Parker, who after being double-crossed and left for dead, sees his hunt for revenge bring with it a shot at the biggest heist of his career. Fortunately for fans, Deadline reports that there's a new Ray Donovan series coming to Paramount+ later this year.

Paramount+, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, and 101 Studios are teaming for a new series loosely based on the hit Showtime series “Ray Donovan.”

Titled “The Donovans,” the series will be fully written by Ronan Bennett with Guy Ritchie attached to direct and executive produce. It will be available to Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers later this year.

The official description of the series states, “With the most powerful clients in Europe, ‘The Donovans’ will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner; and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow.”

The series is executive produced by Richie, Bennett, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin and Ivan Atkinson.

Money Heist actor Ursula Corbero has joined the cast of the upcoming Peacock series The Day of the Jackal, which will also star Eddie Redmayne and Lasana Lynch.

As reported by Variety, Corbero will play Nuria, a woman familiar with the titular assassin, The Jackal, in his personal life but has no idea who he truly is. Redmayne will portray the elusive assassin, and Lynch will play the tenacious and resourceful MI6 agent Bianca, who goes on a relentless global pursuit to apprehend The Jackal. Universal International Studios banner Carnival Films is producing the 10-part series with Brian Kirk (Luther) directing.

It’s a This Is Us reunion of sorts for Gerald McRaney, who joins series creator Dan Fogelman’s new show starring Sterling K. Brown as a Secret Service agent leading the detail for James Marsden’s unnamed president.

In the dearly departed NBC drama, McRaney portrayed Dr. K, who advised Jack and Rebecca to adopt Randall (played by Brown).

Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch will be joined by Úrsula Corberó, known for her role as Tokyo in Netflix hit Money Heist, Charles Dance (Game of Thrones, The Crown) and Richard Dormer (Fortitude, Game of Thrones) in the upcoming TV adaptation of The Day of the Jackal for Sky and Peacock.

Corberó will play Nuria, “someone at the heart of The Jackal’s personal life, entirely unaware of who he truly is,” while Dance will feature as Timothy Winthrop, and Dormer will play a character called Norman.

Also joining the cast are Chukwudi Iwuji (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Split) as Osita Halcrow, Lia Williams (The Capture, The Crown) as Isabel Kirby, Khalid Abdalla (The Crown, The Kite Runner) as Ulle Dag Charles, Eleanor Matsuura (The Walking Dead, I Used To Be Famous) as Zina Jansone, Jonjo O’Neill (Andor, Bad Sisters) as Edward Carver, and Sule Rimi (Classified, Andor) as Paul Pullman.

In the series, which will drop later this year, “Cabaret” actor Redmayne will play elusive assassin The Jackal while “No Time to Die” star Lynch takes on the role of tenacious MI6 agent Bianca, who goes on a relentless global pursuit to catch him.

Corberó joins as Nuria, a woman who is familiar with The Jackal in his personal life but has no idea of who he truly is.

Joining her are Charles Dance (”Game of Thrones”) as Timothy Winthrop, Richard Dormer (“Blue Lights”) as Norman and Chukwudi Iwuji (“Guardians of the Galaxy 3”) as Osita Halcrow.

Sky U.K., part of Comcast-owned European media and technology giant Sky, touted its programming slate for the year at its annual “Up Next” event at Protein Studios in Shoreditch, London on Thursday evening, with Cécile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of Sky Studios and chief content officer, lauding a “fantastic lineup for 2024.”

Sky has continued to double down on original content under Comcast’s ownership. “2024 is a year where you really see the results of the investments,” Frot-Coutaz said, touting “the level of ambition.” “It’s really now paying off, and that’s the case across all genres.”

She mentioned such upcoming shows as Mary & George, starring Julianne Moore, The Tattooist of Auschwitz, starring Harvey Keitel, and The Day of the Jackal, starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, as well as the upcoming film Lee, which tells the story of Lee Miller, a former-model-turned-war-photographer. Kate Winslet stars in it and also serves as a producer.

Lashana Lynch has found the optimal next role. The actor is attached to star in Optimize, a sci-fi feature from filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer.

Paramount is making the project with Beer’s Lab Brew banner as part of the filmmaker’s first-look deal with the studio. According to the logline, Optimize centers on an “average woman” who “utilizes an AI assistant to optimize all facets of her life, but soon finds that the AI’s pursuit of perfection comes at too high a cost.”

Before she was the director of projects such as Pet Sematary: Bloodlines and the screenwriter behind features such as Chaos Walking, Anderson Beer attended Stanford, where she studied artificial intelligence and robotics. That experience came in handy in crafting Optimize, first as a short story and now as a feature.

Peacock has given a straight-to-series order for an adaptation of the novel “All Her Fault” by Andrea Mara.

Megan Gallagher will adapt for the book for the screen and executive produce the series. Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, and Joanna Strevens will executive produce on behalf of Carnival Films. Mara will serve as an associate producer. Carnival Films, which is part of Universal International Studios, will produce.

The series order was announced at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena on Wednesday.

The book was first published in July 2021 by Transworld Digital. The official logline for the series states, “In Chicago, Marissa Irvine arrives at 14 Arthur Avenue, expecting to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate with a boy at his new school. But the woman who answers the door isn’t a mother she recognizes. She isn’t the nanny. She doesn’t have Milo.

Peacock is bulking up its scripted roster.

The NBCUniversal-owned streamer on Wednesday announced series orders for four new scripted originals, including Mr. Throwback, a mockumentary starring NBA legend Steph Curry and an untitled James Wan thriller with Simu Liu set to topline the drama. Also ordered to series are Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy from the creators of Dr. Death and All Her Fault, a suburban thriller based on the novel of the same name by Andrea Mara.

The news was announced Wednesday during Peacock’s time at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, where the streamer held panels for Apples Never Fall and The Traitors, among others.

Comcast-owned European media and telecommunications giant Sky is bringing all of its non-sports content teams in the U.K. and Ireland under one leadership structure, led by Cécile Frot-Coutaz.

Currently CEO of Sky Studios, she will add the chief content officer title, expanding her role to lead all parts of Sky’s content business in the U.K. and Ireland, excluding sports, “with Sky’s U.K. and Ireland content business reporting to her as well as Sky News Group across Europe,” the company said. Frot-Coutaz’s new title will be CEO Sky Studios and chief content officer.

Zai Bennett, managing director of content for Sky U.K. and Ireland, remains responsible for Sky’s output and performance in the countries, “leading Sky Entertainment, Sky Cinema and Sky Kids, along with commissioning for factual, entertainment, arts, kids and film as well as acquisitions across Sky Group,” the company said. “As part of the change,...

British actor Laurence Fox has lost a libel case with two men he called pedophiles on social media after they had called the My Son Hunter star a racist.

On Monday, the High Court in the U.K. deemed that Fox had defamed Simon Blake, a former LGBT charity trustee, and Crystal, a drag artist and former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, on Twitter/X in October 2020, when he called them pedophiles over an escalating row over Black History Month.

The Guardian reports that the spat on X started, when Fox said he would boycott U.K. grocery store Sainsbury’s for supporting “racial segregation and discrimination” after the company said it would establish safe spaces for Black employees during Black History Month in October 2020. Martin Scorsese now has a Letterboxd profile, and he took the opportunity to list companion films for every movie he’s ever made on the social media platform for cinephiles.

“I love the idea of putting different films together into one program. I grew up seeing double features, programs in repertory houses, evenings of avant-garde films in storefront theatres,” he wrote on his Companion Films page. “You always learn something, see something in a new light, because every movie is in conversation with every other movie. The greater difference between the pictures, the better.”

For his latest film, “Killers of the Flower Moon” adapted from David Grann’s best-selling book, Scorses suggested it be paired with “The Heiress” (1949), “The Last of the Line” (1914), “The Lady of the Dugout” (1918), “Blood on the Moon” (1948), “Red River” (1948) and “Wild River” (1960).

For “Goodfellas” (1990), Scorsese listed “Ocean’s Eleven” (1960) and “Jules and Jim” (1962).
