Even though there are no references proof this claim, some viewers predicate that "Horror Express" adapted from the novella "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell, Jr (under the pen name Don A. Stuart).

The director Eugenio Martin (Eugenio Martín) says the film was made because a producer obtained a train set from Nicholas and Alexandra (Nikolaus und Alexandra (1971)). "He came up with the idea of writing a script just so he would be able to use this prop," said Martin. "Now at that time, Phil (Philip Yordan) was in the habit of buying up loads of short stories to adapt into screenplays, and the story for Horror Express was originally based on a tale written by a little-known American scriptwriter and playwright.

Horror Express is an English language Spanish film. Like all the Italian and Spanish films of the period, Horror Express was filmed mostly without sound, with effects and voices dubbed into the film later. Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Telly Savalas all provided their own voices for the English market.

There are two reasons:- first, outside the train, the weather was extremely cold. Everything was covered in snow and no sign of life for the humanoid creature to inhabit. This would be a dead-end for the humanoid which may end frozen again.

Second, The creature was frozen thousands of years ago then woke in a different time with different life forms. Naturally, it makes sense that the humanoid stays and absorbs memories in order to understand the dominant civilization. Besides, the (alien) creature wants to return to his homeworld, thus, it needs to learn the latest technology in order to do that.

Some events in Pujardov's life have affected his devotion to God, like being treated with indignity by the Count, his secret passion for the Countess and seeing the Christ painting fall. Finally, witnessing the superior force of the creature over humans led him to deny God and to pledge allegiance to the entity, believing it to be that of Satan.
