- John Austin: It's lucky my daughter finally told me the truth.
- Tess Mannering: [as she continues to cry] I wasn't sacred. Really scared, I mean. But Daddy's going to be mad. That man broke our window, and pulled out the telephone.
- Libby Mannering: [continuing to cry as Tess returns back to her embrace] You're such an idiot. They can fix the window. But we're not going to be using the phone... for a long, long time.
