FAQ

Frankensteins Monster im Kampf gegen Ghidorah

FAQ

Several commentators have interpreted Ghidorah as a symbol of the Soviet Union and China along with the encroaching risk of communism. There has been speculation that Ghidorah's origin was as a symbol of China's acquisition of nuclear weapons. This posed a risk to Japan who was an ally of the United States. The filmmakers were dubious of this connection since dragons are a major part of Japanese culture as well. They stated that Ghidorah was meant to be a modern interpretation of Yamata no Orochi, the eight-headed dragon from the Japanese creation myth.

Like all other sets in Godzilla films, the Mt. Fuji set was a raised set so the monsters could be filmed at lower angles. Construction on the entire set took over 12,000 man hours to build, roughly 500 days. It was built at a 1/25 scale with real bonsai plants used alongside artificial trees to create foliage. Every single miniature tree seen has miniature roots underneath the ground. This was do so that if the monster knocked down a tree, the roots could be seen. The problem was that the staff didn't know which trees would be used so they had to manually wrap small roots to every single one. The staff would spend an entire day preparing the set, only to obtain a few minutes of footage.
