The night before the Las Vegas premiere of the film, Jane Russell's husband Robert Waterfield attacked her, beating her in the face. The next morning, her face was swollen and black and blue. RKO executives didn't want to cancel the premiere, so she appeared at the festivities with a severely swollen and bruised face. A story was given to the press that the intense windstorm the night before slammed an open car door into Russell's face. Despite the believable story, a "Newsweek" blurb hinted at the actual truth.
The actor who played the helicopter pilot, Toby Riggs, appears to have been omitted from the cast list.
When Victor Mature enters the casino at The Fabulous and first sees Jane Russell, the band in the background is playing "Five Little Miles from San Berdoo". This is the song that Russell sang the previous year in Ein Satansweib (1951).
The helicopter Andrews uses for the chase is a Bell 47G. It was the first helicopter certified for civilian use. Introduced in 1946, it was built until 1974 and over 5,600 of all variants were made. The military version was known as the H-13 Sioux.
"The Fabulous" hotel and casino seen in this film is The Flamingo Las Vegas - known as The Fabulous Flamingo until 1974. It opened on 26 December 1946. It is the oldest resort on The Strip still operating in 2023 and the last casino still running of those that opened before 1950. This was the hotel Bugsy Siegel built that led to his murder. None of the original complex that is seen in this picture remains after numerous expansions, revisions, demolitions, etc. over the years since.
